Police probe Shannon mystery

Shannon MatthewsPolice are to interview nine-year-old Shannon Matthews to try to solve the mystery of events between her disappearance 24 days ago and her rescue.

Officers stormed a flat about a mile from the schoolgirl’s home in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, on Friday and found her hidden in the base of a bed.

They arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of the schoolgirl’s abduction.

The youngster has yet to be reunited with her mother, Karen Matthews, who was said to be “in shock” after learning her daughter was alive.

Shannon was made subject to an Emergency Police Protection Order.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Following medical checks, we will begin interviewing Shannon. This may be a long process. The order on her will remain in place until we have had time to establish the full facts of what happened since her disappearance.”

Shannon disappeared after leaving school on February 19 following a swimming trip.
