Over a hundred people turned up at a Moxley venue to meet Wolves and England goalkeeping legend Bert Williams.

Mr Williams visited Moxley People’s Centre, on Queen Street, to sign copies of his book A Cat In Wolf’s Clothing.

Mr Williams was known as “The Cat” in his playing heyday of the 1940s and 1950s.

Fred Gleeson, development manager, at Moxley People’s Centre, said Mr Williams had a fantastic time meeting his fans.

He said: “He signed my book and wrote a message on it saying that he had a brilliant time and thanked us for our hospitality.

“He really enjoyed meeting people and having his photograph taken. He was a tremendous goalkeeper in his day and is a true Wolves legend.

“There was over a 100 people who turned up to meet him on the day and have their picture taken and have their book signed. They all left with smiles on their faces.”

Mr Williams is set to take part in a talk on April 1 to the newly formed Moxley History Club.

His book is still available from the Collector’s Centre, in Salop Street, Wolverhampton. People who would like to order a book can ring 01902 496378.

Boasting… I saw him play, and he was great.

A different game then, including shoulder-charging the goalie, but his reflexes were brilliant and he could do no wrong for the fans.

Good to feel proud of the Wolves again, even if it goes away again after tomorrows drubbing at Burnley!

From a Baggie, lovely to hear from these old players. A look back to another age when football was played by real men who understood the fans. Those were the days. All the best Bert.
