Mutley registers stunning KO

Young Mutley’s stunning one-punch knockout win in Manchester last night kept him on course for another crack at major honours.

Mutley took a couple of rounds to get going against slippery southpaw Kevin Placide from Trinidad and Tobago before he started to get on top in the third and then finished the job in style in the fourth.

He backed Placide to the ropes and let go a short left hook through his defences that sent him crashing heavily.

Placide was up at nine but referee Keith Garner ruled he was unfit to continue.

“He was a southpaw and awkward,” said former British welterweight champion Mutley.

“But I loosened up after a couple of rounds and found it easier after that.

“I knew I’d catch up with him in the end.”

Mutley has now claimed two victories at welterweight since last July’s defeat against Colin Lynes in their battle for the British and Commonwealth light-welterweight belts at Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

The 31-year-old from West Bromwich added: “This is my weight and the confidence is coming back bit by bit.

“I want a few more fights and then I’ll be ready to fight for the British and Commonwealth titles.”
