With no game over the weekend, Wolves have fallen just a little further behind the play-off pace, writes Wolves blogger Nathan Lloyd.
Last Friday’s blog on the shortcomings of McCarthy’s tenure at the club certainly stirred up a lot of debate and emotion, which was fantastic to see.
And let me assure certain members of my family (and G&B) that I’m not quite sad enough to post messages under several pseudonyms in order to boost the comment numbers.
However, I think the subject did split the opinion of fans.
I’m still convinced that the majority of us are bewildered with what MM has done this season and are hoping that we do not have to put ourselves through it for the next campaign.
I’m wondering if the fans that have come out and backed Mick are simply ‘armchair’ fans.
Because if they have seen the uninspiring kind of football we have all witnessed at Molineux this season, you wonder how they can back Mick’s style of play?
And although I’m disillusioned and frustrated with the style of football Mick has the lads playing right now, I’m a little surprised at how some fans could even turn against him for popping up as a BBC pundit on the Barnsley v Chelski game.
He was wearing a Wolves tie and I thought he came across as quite knowledgeable and eloquent.
It’s just a pity that those traits seem to be lacking when it comes to the club he is currently employed for.
But I was surprised at the negative reaction of some fans saying that he should be taking training (it was quite dark) or that he should be at the Preston game figuring out our next opponents.
Yes, I have probably been one of Mick’s harshest critics of late, but even I find this level of criticism a little absurd.
However, I do think Mick has done himself no favours coming out and setting a points target for the next three games.
The last time Mick came did this was over the festive period when he predicted a return of 10 from 12 points.
From those 4 games, we scored just two goals, drew three and lost the other to Hull.
And if anyone can remember the Sheffield United match at Molineux, it certainly rivaled the Southampton game for pure unadulterated entertainment.
Perhaps I am as guilty as the fans who criticised him for his TV appearance.
He is making a perfectly positive statement by trying to rally the soldiers and win some valuable points.
And I hope he is right.
So it’s off to Deepdale tonight and a Preston side who seemed to have turned the corner.
They will be looking to build on their superb win against Charlton at the weekend and will certainly be full of confidence.
With SEB in such excellent form, I would imagine that Mick will be looking to stick to his trusted 4-5-1 away formation with Edwards getting up to support from midfield.
Good luck to the boys tonight.

Another terrific blog.
I see the Guvnor won again last night. As soon as the MK Dons are mathematically secure of promotion, we should nab him.
i thought he was ok, i dident agree though when he likened kyle to anelka boing boing
GOOD LUCK TO THE BABBIES TONIGHT 3-2 SEB 2 AND AFTER SEEING LAST HOME GAME EASTWOOD AND SEB TO START LESS SAID BUT CANNOT SEE IT HAPPENING
I’m backing Mick, though bewildered by some choices this season, and I am not an armchair fan - I travel from Windsor to games, and have renewed the season ticket. Have been a ticket holder since 1988.
My point with getting rid of managers is simple - Taylor went too soon, and Jones went too soon. Simple. I am envious of the like of Man U and Arsenal, and look at the time and space granted their managers.
And I am not convinced Ince would come to us either. If Big Sam came I would return my season ticket.
you have got a point & he did come over very well & likeable, but i am a bit annoyed that,as he had a chance at last,he didn’t go over to walsall & watch little & jones.
ps.sorry for calling you posh a few months ago,i was just angry.
Perhaps when Ince returns he’ll bring Colin Cameron, Jemal Johnson and Keith Andrews(his Captain)back. The fans will love those additions to our line-up.
I was expecting him to try and take the credit for the Barnsley win, given his arrogance. I have a 200 mile round trip for home games, and have decided not to bother for the rest of the season. The last time I felt like this was the last season that Hoddle was in charge, i kept the faith then but waited for confirmation that he was going before renewing our season tickets. Not this time, MM has finally knocked the stuffing out of me, poor signings, confused team selection and zero tactics, apart from `put a shift in `. Also frustrating that Jez Moxey thinks that MM is great (just as he did with hoddle), and he and MM continue to diss the fans. Apalling !
I watched mk dons last night Incey was full of passion on the touch line.us wolves fans would love to see him in charge
I disagree, armchair fans are the majority who are calling for micks head. Fans who go to the games and remain loyal, well not all of us, but quite a few… still keep that loyalty, therefore at least give him another season.
Must admit I am growing tired of the pro/anti McCarthy debate now. It is just turning into a slagging off session between two sets of fans.
I am firmly on the side of getting rid of him as soon as possible and I can’t see anything changing my mind now.
As for tonights game, I hope he brings back Olofinjana. I know he hasn’t had a great season but I still think he is better than the rest. Would like to see him alongside Edwards too.
I think Henry should be given a rest or played at right back instead of Foley who is also looking jaded.
On the positive side, I hope Elokobi keeps improving, he delivered a couple of awesome crosses against Southampton, one which led to a goal!
As for the attack, I just hope he goes with pace. Eastwood or Keogh along with SEB. Perhaps Gobern might be fit enough for a run out?
So my team is:
Hennessey
Henry
Craddock
Breen
Elokobi
Jarvis
Olofinjana
Edwards
Gobern
Eastwood
SEB
Subs: Keogh, Foley, Kyle, Potter, Stack.
Not that I think the team will look anything like this!
We should take a leaf out of Barnsleys book.
Look how they defended their lead against Chelsea, they threw absolutely everything behind the
ball. Players playin with a bit of bloody passion!!
In comparison, look how many points we have thrown away in the dying minutes over the course
of the season……plenty I can assure you.
To get promoted from this league, players should treat every game like a cup game.
Our current squad simply isnt good enough (too young, too inexperienced).
Give them a couple of seasons and they will improve, until then, the play offs
are an unlikely target.
However good luck tonight lads and I hope you may prove me wrong over
the remainder of the season.

If I took all the abuse from here to heart, I would have packed the blog in a long time ago.
Posh I’m certainly not, but my Mum found your comment hilarious and texted me at the time from Malta to call me posh boy.
I have lost a little of accent when I moved away to Milton Keynes in the Eighties, but I chose to go to Wolverhampton Uni in 1991 simply because the ground was next door!
Anyway, I’m off to join the hunt and then for a spot of Pimms.
Toodle pip, tally ho, etc etc
I have to say that some people do say some pretty daft things on here!

There must be a reason you posted this?
Perhaps you thought it was a shame that when Hoddle was manager he didn’t bring the entire England squad with him!
Nathan Lloyd:
So that makes you a ‘fluffy posh mummies boy’
Only joking!
Just before people get excited about us winning, someone in the office just told me that Preston have not lost a home Tuesday night game for around 25 year.
Yes the guy needs to get out more!
Nathan you’re getting a bit of stick for your armchair fan comment. I agree that for 60mins last week it was truly painful to watch but I still stick with MM because we have the players to perform they just aren’t hitting last seasons standards, even this seasons pre Kightly injury.
I am off to Deepdale tonight and I won’t be calling for Micks head. I think tonight is a real make or break game as we can’t rely on winning at Burnley after the mauling they gave us at the Mol.
Good blog nathan. i think me and u are on the same wave lenth.
I watched the MK Dons v Chesterfield game last night and Incey looked so annoyed that his team only won 2 -1. his players didnt no what 2 do when the whistle went as his face was a angry 1!! GET HIM NOW!!
Leaving work early 2 make my way up 2 Preston tonight, see all you loyals there and ill leave all the arm chair “fans” here to fight with each other. also congrats to WBA for getting to Wemberly a song 2 sing on April the 15th ” WE SAW YA CRYING AT WEMBERLY (TWICE)) HAHA OR “YOU ALWAYS LOSE AT WEMBERLY!) LOL
Its only a little bit of fun…wait 4 it wait 4 it ….i here stupid dingle or just cuz u have never beren there from terrywalsallbaggie or happy baggie………..

Nobody around me at the last home game had a good word to say for McCarthy. Afraid that it is the armchair fans who haven’t suffered personally who think that he is doing a good job.
I’m going up Preston to cheer the lads on tonight, bet that I won’t see you there!
I think the issue of giving a manager enough time is a valid one - and I don’t think anyone has a problem as long as it can be seen that the team is improving, players are played in their natural positions and are clear what tactics they are working to. As far as I can see this season has gone from bad to worse. Whatever happens this season I really don’t think MM will get the sack this summer and should he get off to poor start next season and then get dismissed, Moxey won’t give the job to Ince - that will be admitting he made a mistake last time.
The truth is that there autopsy must wait till the end of season,so we must continue to watch ,support and see what happens.
Just a little idea knocking around corprate areas Morgan agreed to give every body at least a season in there jobs when deal was done with sir jack?
UP THE WOLVES !!!
se ya tonight if your going?!!
Really good blog Nathan, couldn’t disagree with anything said. I know that most of us are frustrated by Mad Micks antics and failings at Wolves, but to have a go at him over his pundit spot just isn’t on!
still hopefull we can make the play offs, but looks a litte more unlikely now. yes we have games in hand on teams above us, but the bad news is are we good enough to win them?. tonight will be a good indication as preston are improving all the time, so if we get anything from it then the signs for us are good. but we must get our home form sorted out, the majority of our remaining games are home matches and we’re not performing well enough at molineux.
forget 7 from 9 etc, we must take it one game at a time starting tonight. i expect a good game and really hope the boys are up for it, anything less and we’ll lose.
so come on you wolves!! we can’t match the baggies cup run, but we could still join them in the premier next season.
17. Wacky_Wanderer
Thanks for that posting about MK Dons, and the gaffer being angry at only winning 2-1. That’s the passion and commitment we need here again.
Great blog Nathan, keep calling it as you see it!
OUT OF DARKNESS COMETH PAUL INCE!
6) What the heck was wrong with Cameron, or Jemal Johnson for that matter?
Cameron always commanded our midfield, and Jemal was a handful whenever he got a runout..
Give me those two over the jokers Kyle and Gray (or Henry for that matter) ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.
Nathan, I’m certainly guilty of finding fault with everything mick does, and that is wrong. The blatant disregard he shows for our club, and its fans however is inexcusable. I simply cannot bring myself to back this guy. In fact, if we somehow managed to go up, mick would be a shoo in to beat his own sunderland points record.
I love reading all the ‘one upmanship’ that goes on here:
The ‘pecking order’
1. Season Ticket holder home and away
2. Season Ticket holder home only
3. None season ticket holder but go to some games home and away
4. Only got to some home games
5. Don’t go to games (Armchair fan)
So I deduce:
1. Your opinion counts more than anybodies
2. Your important but not quite as important as No.1
3. You will be listened too but only out of politeness
4. You may be listened too, but only if you agree with 1,2 or 3
5. You are the lowest of the low, you should not be listened too, your opinion counts for nothing. You may even be an albion fan. You have permission to stop breathing!
I agree that the Sheffield United match was awful. I couldn’t believe the transformation in the team since
last year. Frankly that has to be down to the manager.
Having heard McCarthy on BBC WM last night he just sounded like an old fashioned northern bloke.
I want somebody like Paul Ince to manage the club, but, I fear the the Board will give McCarthy
at least until next season.
20. BangladeshWolf
That is the other side of the problem. Moxey has been like leg-chains on this club. He has to go in one big clean-out. Mr Morgan will only get one chance like this, he’s been fair and gave everybody a year. Sorry, you are not performing at the level I want, goodbye!
nickthegreek iv heard that as well..but does a yr stand 4 1 season?
See you they my fellow loyal supporter.
Wacky
Ad Mant…Gray is 1 of the canditdates 4 player of the season!!
I can understand why many wolves fans want Paul Ince, but I wouldn’t think he yet has the pedigree for the molyneux job. MM will testify that one good year doesn’t guarantee that the fans wont be calling for your head by the next xmas. Many big name players fail as managers. This may be because they cant understand that the players they have arent as good as the ones they played with.
If the wolves are going to change managers again they should do some real research and try to find someone with the right personality and ability, and not just rush in for ex heroes just to appease the fans.If one of the other teams in the top half of the championship was looking for a new manager, would Paul Ince be on the top of their list? he could well be the answer but i bet there are other candidates out there worth a look! Wolves need to go forward steadily and that doesn’t normally go hand in hand with knee jerk judgements.
26. abdonwolf
Hey, I like this pecking order thing! Let’s get it fully documented and applied to the group, giving each posting a rating!
Next season, I will probably drop from a 2 to a 3, unless we see some changes soon.
26.abdonwolf
That certainly made me laugh. Your irony may well fly over a few people’s heads, but I understand your sentiment.
I think those that don’t to the games do see the 7 points gained from the last 9 through rose-tinted specs.
Anyway, I’m determined that my next blog won’t be entitled, “A million different ways to say get rid of Mick McCarthy”.
Probably.
Fluffy xxx
*sorry*
… I think those that don’t go to the games do see the 7 points gained from the last 9 through rose-tinted specs.
I feel we have played alot of awful football this season however we have had a lot of injuries too.
Next season we will have kightly back and i feel with the amount of quality kightly and jarvis bring down each flanks, it will be a big boost to a promotion hopes. Im a season ticket holder at molineux therefore i was at the game against southampton, and i was thinking why doesent mick just keep kyle on and let seb and eastwood feed off kyles knock downs and flick ons?
Im a fan of mick, the football has been shocking this season however im behind him to get us promoted next season or praying for a play off spot.
Tonight it will back to 451, defensive and hope for a break. MM is so predictable, no wonder smart managers turn us over so easily!
35. Caddick
I like your optomism, but why would Mick be any different next season? He’ll make the same mistakes and probably buy some more useless dross.
I’m sorry, but time is up. Time to ship Mick out now so that the next guy (Paul Ince) can take his time to calculate what he needs to achieve next season.
on my way to preston tonight.. can’t wait to see them give that lot a good hiding (only just woke up so i could be dreaming!)
Congrats to WBA on their recent success, it’s amazing how 2 sets of fans can live so close but have a completely different outlook on the sport. As for singing “we saw you crying at wembley”.. I can assure you i’d sooner be crying at wembley than stuck at home doing the gardening.
As much as it pains me to say it, I wish we could all be a bit more like the average albion fan (no, i don’t mean sleep with our siblings!) but they seem to understand that success is earned and is not a right.
There is so much negativity around our club, I can’t help but feel that wolves’ press department can be blamed for their lack of creativity when compared to similar clubs, it breeds negativity through the fans. The messages coming from the club are not positive. If they have nothiing positive to say then say nothing!
But I suppose it would be harsh to blame a few people in a press department for having an effect on thousands of others, it must be something much deeper than that
were’nt albion (a couple of years ago) voted fans of the year? and only a couple of months ago we were voted biggest whingers? does that not tell you something?
Call yourself fans?
Mick has done wonders at this club, you lot should be ashamed of yourselves.
Yes, the football hasn’t been very entertaining, but so what? Look where we are in the league.
I hope that Mick stays for many years to come.
I’ve done my Early bird on the back of him being the boss.
Go and support someone else if you don’t like it.
Why not go for Mark McGhee as a replacement for Mr.Clueless
Since leaving us, he has:
Gained promotion with Millwal
Led Millwall into the play-off
Led Brighton to promotion despite lack of funds
Is now doing a very good job at Motherwell and was a candidate for the Scotland job.
And lets not forget what a great job he did at Reading before he came to Wolves, as well as the job he did leading us into the play-offs and the FA Cup semi.
It’s a long shot, but lets not let his past failure at Wolves count against him.
I was in a pub the other day discussing Micks comments about how we had rubbish tactics for the Cardiff Cup match and a guy stepped in randomly and said quite aggressivley “what you on about we have won the last 2 away games in a row”. I asked him if he actually goes to the games and he said not any more. To me looking from the outside you dont get anywhere near the picture of the quality or lack of it of football we are seeing at Wolves.
I said to him that until you turn up week in week out and watch them play, how can you have an accurate opinion???? Seems logical but there are people on here who dont even go to the games too who have misguided opinions. The football has for the most part, been awful this season.

Asbsolutely right, I was wondering why there are people still supporting MM. That explains it, and those who go to the matches (level 4 and above) will confirm that it is as much fun as having teeth pulled!

You don’t have to come here if you cannot face the trutch being expressed. It’s not your web site, so stop telling real fans to go away, silly girl.
Your not Mrs McCarthy are you?
Let me just say that i am no armchair fan and have been a season ticket holder in SBU for the last 5 years mainly due to the great view and only in recent years have i been able to afford it. And yes i am still pro Mick even if in recent times performances have been un-inspiring to say the least.
Now i know that the second half of the season has seen a number of fans grow impatient with MM and for a few of them to start calling for his head but i DO NOT believe this is the right way to go, i have mentioned before in a bbc post that the generally accepted length of time for a manager to come into a top half
championship team and turn them into a promotion winning outfit is 3 years and considering the state we were in when HOddle left i myself think MM is on course for that three year target. Yes some of his signings havent come off as well as expected and of course there have been a few bumps along the way but overall we have now gained a squad at Molineux that are (sorry to use this phrase) ‘young and hungry’, if at times a little inexperienced and lacking a bit of confidence. Given time and under the right guidence they will come good and yes i do believe that the guidence will be under MM.
Yes recent performances havent exactly inspired some of the ‘returning’ “fans” (the ones that were not there during the Hoddle debacle) i am not however suggesting that you are one of them, but as i have stated this is in general a very young and inexperienced side that has at times been lacking that bit of leadership that has been needed and that has been through no fault of Mik’s but injury (Breen, Craddock) Another one of Mik’s ‘old and trusted’ players has been Gray who has also come in for a bit of stick from certain fans on message boards but another player that i believe has been a consistent performer for us this season if not one of the best and it was Mick who brought him to the club for his experience which has been invaluable at times even if he isnt any longer the player who would run the length of the pitch bombing forwards and then doing it getting back like he used to..i mean come on give him some slack he is getting old! lol
Now I realise that one player shouldnt make a team but as i stated earlier this is a very young and inexperienced team that we have at The Neux and the loss of a certain Mr Kightly has effected the team hard this season as he was a very strong driving force in the side and it has taken time to adapt to playing without him. I mean we all saw how much more natural the team looked when he came on during the Cambridge match, we just looked more balanced. Maybe the young players have been caught on thier lack of experience by not being able to adapt freely to a change of style which has not been helped by the loss of the experienced players to injury who would have helped with this. And before anyone mentions Craddock to Stoke Mick addmitted that mayb he was wrong with that decision and called him back and he turned into one of our best defenders and slipped straight back into the side (then got injured)
I have to quickly mention the lack of experience in central midfield and yes maybe this has been a fault of MM but who could have expected for our 3 form Mids from last season to go completely absent this season (George, Henry, Potter) MM tried to bring in some creativity and flair in Gibson who also has the experience of learning his trade at United and their feeder clubs (Antwerp?, i could look it up but cant be arsed). I suspect that MM also saw a bit of experience in the lad because of his time abroad but again he is a youngster and maybe the responsibility was just that little bit too much? MM then seened to hit the nail on the head with Edwards who was magnificent in his first few games for us but then again (wow it seems like i keep saying this) he is YOUNG and relatively INEXPERIENCED like the majority of our squad who need time and patience from the fans to develop into a smooth clean working footballing unit.
Nobody has ever doubted that we have a vast amount of potential in the squad but that potential needs time to be realised and not stiffled by negativity in the media and the fans.
Right i’m going to sign off now as this was only meant to be a short comment originally! I realise that this post isnt as eloquent and free flowing as your blogs Nathan but hey im not a blogger for a newspaper now am i.

Points win prizes and the prizes is a play-off place.
So it an attempt at 7 points from a maximum of 9 points possible. But the porridge style football has been a shambles to watch. 4-5-1 tonight defensive would like to see a 4-4-2 in attempt to get the point and actual have a chance to get 9 points from 9.
Let me just say that i am no armchair fan and have been a season ticket holder in SBU for the last 5 years mainly due to the great view and only in recent years have i been able to afford it. And yes i am still pro Mick even if in recent times performances have been un-inspiring to say the least.

So good he said it twice!
Just realized that I have something in common with McCarthy:
He wants 7 of 9!
So do I, she’s lovely, the man has taste!
abdon wolf… erm yes actually.
I don’t mind that Mick made a TV appearance but I think he should have been checking out M little and D Jones up the road, as both players desrve the chance of playing in this underperforming team! I think Little and Jones deserve a chance at right back and left back respectively, and what frustrates the fans is that there is no explanation as to why they are overlooked in favour of one of Mick’s Irish or ex Sunderland palyers. If Mick doesn’t provide the fans with reasons e.g. why doesn’t Feddy get a chance, then this is partly why many fans have turned against him. It’s his choice not to justify his decisions but the results of late don’t support his judgement. I think Mick’s done a good job at wolves, but we have not made progress this year. If I was Steve Morgan, I wouldn’t trust him to spend another penny. I think Mick saved us from possible relegation last season and to get us in the play offs was great but this year we’ve been woeful. The performances are poor and some of te players he’s bought are inadequate. I don’t agree with chopping and changing managers but if we’re not happy being a mid table team, then I don’t think Mick is the man to take us forward, get us promoted or keep us in the premiership.
Dave Stoke Wolf -
Some great points (but you didn’t need to make them twice!) and I’m generally in agreement. I would agree that the majority of the football served up this season has been pretty dire - and god knows I’ve sat through hours of it - but if you attended other matches in this league you’d realise that most of the matches are pretty abysmal to watch as well.
What’s important for us to realise is that MM’s not going before the end of the season so you might as well go to the games, enjoy a good moan over a few beers, cheer on the team and hope for the best. I’m sick and tired of this pathetic mentailty of feeling the need to sack the manager after a season and half. It just confirms the stereotype that Wolves fans are reactionary, trumped-up half-wits living on the successes of the 50s and 70s. Get over it.
“I’m wondering if the fans that have come out and backed Mick are simply ‘armchair’ fans.”
For your information I am a season ticket holder in the Billy Wright, but unlike the sheep I’m willing to back our manager until the end.
Stop posting drivel Nathan and get back to writing children’s story books - children like their fiction that lacks fact!
39susan-wolf - You must be one of the thick fans…….. You say it doesnt matter if football is entertaining…….Mick has done wonders at this club??? He has done wonders yet we are playing uninspiring, non entertaining rubbish???
You say look at the league table………ok, whats your point?? We are adrift of a playoff place where the likes of Stoke are pressing for automatic promotion………..
Has he really worked wonders?? Switch our position with Stokes and you may say that but when you pay £500 odd quid a year (Premiership Prices by the way) why are you happy watching this seasons tripe??!!
RIGHT! Will people on here stop banging about giving MM another year or Paul Ince is not right for this club! MM has has 2 season at this. Even though this season is far from finished we are going backwards in the style of play that wolves have adopted. This is MM’s team. All the players he has bought into the club are all his with the exception of Oli. We played with drive, passion, committment and fearless engergy last season and we played out of our skins. Now that teams have cotton onto that style of play, MM has not got a plan b. for example. Kites has been doubled up this season, therefore you would have thought Foley or whoever plays at right back would be bombing forward to help him out. But no MM thinks Kites is good enough to blast past defenders week in week out. I am sorry but he would need help in that dept and MM nneds to alter the play somewhat to add to our attacking potency. I won’t bore you all to tears of his man management skills with the handling of certain players which is nothing more than bullying. But his arrogancy around the moli is not good. He is not the messaih as we all thought he was. He has lost the dressing room and we will not get better if we are continuing to be hoofing the ball up to KK’s head and trusting to luck.
Paul Ince….? Well if anyone of you saw the match last night, granted it wasnt pretty but what was evident is that the players felt comfortable in a well drilled system, and never say die attitude. Incey was vocal on the touchline, animated and supportive which as a fan is brillaint to see. Moxey nver gave him the job because he lacked experience. A fair comment, but now 2 yrs on, he saved one club from relegation, sending another club to promotion, there are creditantials of a manager who can motivate players when they are rock bottom “Maccesfield” and gel a promotion and cup winning side “MK Dons” Let just hope Steve Morgan does the decent thing and sacks MM in the summer. And moves heaven and earth to get the brightest young managers in the game. The fans would worship him, his name alone will be respected in the dressing room. This guy has won medals for man u, liverpool, inter milan, captained his country. The likes for Eastwood would die to play for a guy like Ince, not a bumbling buffon like MM.
Case scenerio, if wolves appointed Paul Ince for next season I bet you we would be playing alot more attractive football then the dross that has been served up by MM. If we lost games by playing great football then you would not get any complaints because wolves fans deserve value for money not to be short changed by hoofing the ball from 1 donkey “Collins” to another donkey “KK”.
Steve Morgan for gods sake get Paul ince, get a gentlemans agreement with his agent.
Lastly, to the person who plays that stupid trumpet in the south bank, PLease leave it at home because it was sadly out of choon and pathetic. If you want an atmosphere then bring back the LIQUIDATOR!
MM OUT!!!
Nathan is nothing more than a knee jerk fan, as Dave Stoke Wolf pointed out his blogs over little than 2 months or 3 months ago were nothing but positive - are you the arm chair fan Nathan? Or are you just following the crowd?
What most don’t understand is that teams come here to cut the team off and FRUSTRATE the fans because they know how easy it is to do so. Face facts - Molineux has been a very happy hunting ground for every Championship club for many years. Stop Wolves from playing free flowing football and watch the fans start moaning - that’s the away teams game plan every match, and the problem is the fans play into their hands.
Whatever happened to “Super Mick” when we were getting beat 6-0 by Southampton?
The Baggies said it wouldn’t last and they were right, dare I say it we’re worse than Newcastle!
39 Susan Wolf. Whenever you post you just blurt out MM is great so everyone who doesn’t agree go and support someone else…. first of all everyone is entitled to an opinion be it right or wrong, secondly is this the first season you’ve ever watched us play? I only ask this as you seem to be the only person who thinks the football, tactics and selections are fine. Even pro MM fans are agreeing that the football we play is only appealing to the blind. Please ‘express’ opinions in future rather than just insulting the majority of people who post oh these forums
I do agree with the views that Paul Ince is a better long term prospect than McCarthy. MM did well for a short while as Millwall manager, he did well for a short time as Sunderland manager, and did ok for Ireland until biting off his nose to spite his face with Roy Keane. At no point in his managerial career has he shown the ability to prolong an initial good impact. Feels like the same here to me, and can even his biggest fans say they have enjoyed watching Wolves play this season? Supporters want success and entertainment and this season we have had neither. I don’t call 6 months of poor football a short term blip and I don’t call 18 months of struggling to score goals a short term blip.
Of course taking Paul Ince on would be a gamble but for someone that played for Man Utd, Liverpool, Miland and England to be prepared to cut his teeth at management at Macclesfield and Milton Keynes is a great credit to him and at both clubs he has done exceptionally well. He has even made a player out of Keith Andrews! His knowledge of football at the higher level will surely help him in the future and if we don’t get him soon rest assured some other top team will.
While I am on here I will knock the people that slag off those that come on here and criticise Wolves and McCarthy. This is a website not a football stadium and I would much rather people had a moan on here than go to the games and boo the players.
Finally I do hope we go for 4-4-2 rather than 4-5-1 tonight. We need wins and we need to be positive if we are going to get anywhere this season. I know we recently won two games with that formation but anyone that went to the games will tell you we were hardly convincing. and I do think Karl Henry should not be in the team. I think he has done a great job over the last 18 months but the guy looks nackered and out of sorts lately and in much need of a break.

“this is a very young and inexperienced team”
The back two are 50 years between them, and most of MM’s favourites are well into their 20’s.
Stop reciting last seasons manta, this season MM bought old seasoned pro’s, who have created this sad state of affairs.
There is only Hennessy that is young and left from last season.
Goebbels sais “repeat a lie often enough and people will start to believe it”, so it is with this myth of our young, inexperienced team.
After all said and done, I’m so glad we have3n’t got that numpty David Jones in charge. Come on; let’s sack Mick and have a nother round of good, bad, ack! Nuggets! More like goldfish going round the same old bowl, unable to remember whatt happened last time, the time before that, the time befor that and the time………t
11.
barnsely are near the bottom of the league. id rather not take a leaf from their book!!!
64 - If they played like they did against Chelsea week in week out, they wouldn’t be at the bottom.
That was the point I was making about every game being treated as a cup game, but obviously your too thick
to work that out.
Some of these posts are getting on the long side arent they, it does say keep it short you know. Its been a poor season so far and I dont think it will get any better. Hows that, nice and short !
1) No point in all this MM stay or go at this stage of season , see the season out & looks as if we going to occupy our old historic league position between Position 7 to 12 = Yes end of season should be thanks for great season last year & best efforts this year but fell short , so time for change .
2) Agree that Paul Ince should be given chance , every time he pulled on a Wolves shirt he was immense & shows no sign of let up in level of commitment and leadership as a Manager .
3) Get behind the team for rest of season , then hopefully in the summer a clear out of strikers who dont score goals ( although admittedely a distinct lack of creative midfielders doesnt help ! )
4) Although is very poor league this year , we aint shown to be good enough to go up , so as point 3 re build round players like Kightley , with some creative attacking midfielders & settled forward line who will score goals ( SEB is one of these ) & push on for much better season next year ( hopefully ! ) .
I am a number 2, the big question is to I do the early bird offer again or buy myself a new lawn mower it is a tough call after 8 years of watching the mighty wolves.
62. Little wolf club
You must be on a wind up!
How old is Ebanks-Blake (clue, he’s under 22)
Dave Edwards (clue, he’s under 23)
Jarvis (clue, he’s under 22)
Even Eastwood and Elliott are only mid-twenties.
In fact the only player her bought over 30 is Gray.
So who’s lying? What a nugget.
nathan i agree again with what you’ve written.
i travel down from central scotland for the games and it is soul destroying to watch the football dished up this season. i came down for new year game so went without a drink and had to endure one of the worst games i’ve ever seen. had a good drink when i got home though. i am sick of it, the season has been a disaster i was not expecting anymore than the playoffs and wanted to see the same hard work and endeavour as last season and with the addition of eastwood i hoped the goals would come too. but what do we get utter rubbish and we have managed to scrape a few wins, how many games can we say we have played well.
i am not a season ticket holder and no i don’t get to all games i have to work every 2nd weekend, i get to as many as possible includiong midweek and don’t get home till early hours and go to work next day. i also listen over internet to game i can’t get to. i costs me a fortune in fuel and all i am looking for is to be entertained, see some improvement, see some goals and go away saying the boys have done their best etc. but i cannot see us improving with mick and his methods and honestly hope he goes when the season ends. i couldn’t take another season like this.
always give the team 100% and always hope we are finally turning the corner but its just not happening, i hope we get last palyoff place but i can’t see it.
come on the wolves and keep up the good work nathan
“Mick as a pundit” - is that the same as “sick as a parrot” ?
Good blog Nath. i still support Mick though, and I am a season ticket holder. Its not that I support his decisions, I just dont want this trigger-happy culture to continue!
No matter what age they are all crap
73. Baggy 1
Why you called Baggy 1?
I think you should be named after the number 2, much more fitting!
Baggy No.2 because thats what you spout!
Would any other manaer finding himself without a game on a day when a full league programme was taking place dare miss the opportunity either to scout for the new players this club needs or watch up-coming opposition ?
Only MM could do the opposite, but then when does he not do the opposite of what is obvious to everyone else.
Let us hope that a media career is planned and that this was a clear signal that he did not need to concentrate on what would have been more benificial to Wolves.
thank you for that bit of support GW - 69 (hehe cant help but snigger)
and just a little bit of an extra, just because a player is in their 20’s doesn’t mean that they are experienced, there are different levels of football and at this level i.e. pushing for promotion with a HUGE and EXPECTANT fan base, they are relatively in-experienced on coping with the change and pressure. Yes the back 2 are older and they DO have experience along with a couple of others (gray, Murray, you could argue george as well??) BUT they have all been missing through injury/international duty or off form, and you cannot at the beginning of the season imagine that you will loose them all.
here’s a quick run down (although is gona take a while to type all this!!!)
Murray - 26 - been missing thru injury

D.Ward 29 - fairly consistent
Collins – 23
George -27 - bad form
Breen - old and injured
Craddock - old and injured / stoke debacle that I already mentioned
Kightly – 22 – injured
Henry - 25 - on and off form ever since that spleen injury?
Keogh – 21 – inexperienced at this level
Bothroyd - 25 but come on it’s bothroyd
S.Ward - 22
R.Edwards - 25
Potter - 23
Davies - 20 - injured
Jarvis - 21 - injury problems
S.Elliot - 24
Eastwood - 24 (ahem not getting into that)
Gibson – 20 - loan
D.Edwards – 22 – jan transfer
Blake – 21 – jan transfer
HHEENNNEESSSYYYYY - 21
Foley – 23
Gray – 33 – as mentioned previously
Kyle – 26 – jan transfer loan
Elokobi – 22 – jan transfer
Plus all our kids out on loan who are GAINING experience ready for our 1st team future
Think I got most of them, so the argument that we have a young and inexperienced team is very valid and we will only get better with time, I thank you
11, THE REASON WE THROW GAMES AWAY IS WE HAVE NOT GOT ANY DEFENDERS GET RID OF HIM NOW, GET INCEY IN.
Remember Moxey came out a few weeks ago to back Mccarthy and said at the time that’s it’s not the end of the world if we don’t get promotion, he and morgan also came out and said Mccarthy was only in his second season and should be given time. That should indicate that we’re stuck with him for next season too. I can’t stand him either and won’t be renewing my Season Ticket unless he goes. Sorry boys but I think we’re stuck with him for another 12 months at least yet. yawn yawn…
Reading the comments it is plain that many fans have confidence that the squad will improve over time. I said right at the beginning of the season that I thought next season would be more promising than this one- hope I’m right! Mick has added a fair few youngsters since the season began as well.
The thing that worries me most is the failure to sign any good young centre backs.
I wont go into Mick’s tactics (or lack thereof) or team selection or even his tendency to play people out of position. All of these issues have been done to death over the course of this dismal season. I just hope we fail to make the play-offs and Mick walks of his own accord.
Take a look at Gus Poyet if you are wanting a new manager not tainted with previous (ex-international?) baggage. He has been an awesome assistant and first team coach for the last couple of years and is going to be a managerial great very soon. Like to see him do it at Wolves!
Susan wolf, you must surely be related to MM! Your comment of “Yes, the football hasn’t been very entertaining, but so what? Look where we are in the league” does allow us one more chuckle! Girl, we are in 11th. place.. we aren’t relegated “yet” I assume you are relating to?
There is not a teenager in the team. They are all in their twenties, and some may be inexperienced, but only because they are not good enough to get first team games anywhere in the Championship and below.
When you compare those ages with teams like Man. U., then you are taking the Mickey when you claim this is a young team.
The mainstays of each team that Magical Mick produces each game are at the higher end, the ones being permed randomly are in the lower twenties. But footballers who haven’t made a mark in their early twenties are not going anywhere!
That list above proves the lie of of young team, probably right that they are inexperienced, but only because they are not good enough to earn first team games.
MCCARTHY OUT! NOW!
Nathan
“He was wearing a Wolves tie and I thought he came across as quite knowledgeable and eloquent.
It’s just a pity that those traits seem to be lacking when it comes to the club he is currently employed for.”
I believe that Mick gave up before Christmas. He is just going through the motions. And don’t they smell? There is still that unexplained episode when Eire and Korea? where reported to be trying to recruit him, and no denials of interest on his part!
Something has gone badly wrong here. Maybe he didn’t get the funds for buying that he wanted over the Christmas period.
It all waits to be told eventually, unless he has a silence clause inserted in his “Going away” present at the end of the season.
Personally, I think he just sulked because Santa forgot him!
1 nil now the penalty lets see wat happenssss ………………. here we go again ……… its in stupid ref 1 each
is anyone listenin to this tripe? how does a penalty change a game so much come on lads dont give up
Stevo
The lads did give up… I think it was around December.
Mccarthy out! he is useless and clueless. Ince in! Look what Roy Keane did with a Sunderland side that was on the verge of relegation from the championship. Wolves are going nowhere with MM.
I don’t want Friday’s blog to just be another depressing read about Mick’s catalogue of errors. If anybody has a more positive idea for a discussion point, then please make a suggestion.
Nathan no.87 A deafening silence was heard!!!
Is there nothing positive we can discuss? Here’s a few suggestions - 1. This fascinating, exciting season of over achievement is coming to an end 2. MM might be going 3. Incey may be coming 4. There will be a clearout of players (hopefully) 5. There will be a clearout of backroom staff (hopefully). Is that too optimistic for you. Dare to be happy!
88.staffordwolf
I like your spin! Unfortunately that all comes from everything bad that is happening at the club!
Nathan - why not talk about Murray, Hennessey, Foley, Elokobi, Edwards, Keogh, Ebanks Blake, Kightly, Jarvis, Davies, Gobern, Eastwood - so many good young players it makes you wonder what we are doing half way down the league. Maybe a new manager would be the answer?
90. Steve Bull Stand
Cheers for the suggestion. Buts we have talked about the young players until we are blue in the face, frustrated, annoyed, etc etc.
I’ve gone for something completely different today. Expect a backlash!
MM is supposed to be an honest and forthright bloke. What’s the problem with Freddy Eastwood? It’s got
to be personal. After watching the dire stuff against Southampton why will he not give the man a run
in the team?Give us the truth!-other than he doesn’t put a shift in of course!
