Albion youngster to keep spot

wd2241272albion-15-dh-27.jpgAlbion youngster Jared Hodgkiss is poised to retain his place for tomorrow’s crucial championship clash with Crystal Palace after the Hawthorns with Carl Hoefkens set to miss out through injury.

Belgian defender Hoefkens, who missed Sunday’s FA Cup quarter final at Bristol Rovers with a hamstring injury, looked likely to miss out again against the Eagles.

So 22-year-old Hodgkiss, who appeared on Sunday for the first time in almost three months, looks ready to play again.

Albion manager Tony Mowbray said: “Carl is progressing, but I would have to doubt whether he is progressing quickly enough.

“Jared has been out for quite a few weeks and he hadn’t played a game since his hernia operation apart from 60-minutes for the reserves.

“It was a gamble to put him on Sunday but he did exceptionally well.”

Dutch striker Sherjill MacDonald has returned after hitting six goals during a month on loan at Hereford and Mowbray has no immediate plans to let him go again.

Good luck to Jared, he really is a nice kid. Looked a little rusty on sunday due to lack of games but he did a good job and deserves his chance

I thought Jared was outstanding on sunday - i didn’t see any “rust” at all.

Ok - he was marking a div 1 player but he never let him through (I thought our right side was very tight) and he was still getting forward late into the game.

I posted on an earlier story that i thought JH was outstanding on sunday - so good we never missed the Hoef at all.

I too think that Hodgkiss was very assured on Sunday, I have no qualms about him keeping his place in the side for Wednesday.

Yeah Agree with HB on this one. I thought Jared played well. I have seen some negative comments about him and thought I was watching a different match.

JH had a good game on Sunday and didn’t let the team down; however his distribution did let him down at times. Nothing that won’t come with confidence and more time on the pitch. I think that Morrison helps out the right-back a geat deal when he plays. His tracking back and effort is faultless!!

I like jared, and he did very well at the weekend. He wont let us down, but if he has a weakness it is lack of pace. I think that is one of the reasons Gera came on at the weekend because Bristol introduced a very fast winger.

    I agree with you lot.
    Jared did a good job.

    I don`t think he’s Premier-class though.
But thats a different story, at the moment :-)
