Albion captain Jonathan Greening is looking to get over last season’s Wembley heartbreak by clinching victory at the second attempt at the national stadium.
The Baggies skipper paid tribute to his side’s quarter-final display in the victory against Bristol Rovers and he is now looking forward to the last-four clash with Portsmouth on either April 5 or 6.
“It was a really hard-working display and now we’re going back for our second game at Wembley in under a year – hopefully with a better result than last time,” he said.
“When the quarter-final draw was made, ours looked the trickiest tie because the other three all looked as if they’d go the way of the favourites and that Manchester United, Chelsea and Middlesbrough would go through.
“I think people thought the scary one was our tie.
“At home, I think we would have been confident of winning but going down to the Memorial Stadium, on their pitch where they play rugby as well, it didn’t really suit our football.
“The gaffer’s comments all week were just to go there, do a professional job like we did at Peterborough in the fourth round, play the opposition and not the pitch, and to be aware of just how up for it they were going to be because the prospect of a semi-final for Rovers is massive.
“At the end of it, that’s what we did, we concentrated well, we didn’t let the pitch or the crowd get to us and we did our job.
“They got stuck in and made it hard for us in the first-half, but we matched them, we competed, we were determined and we did things right, and got our rewards in the end,” said the Baggies captain
“People who watched the game will have seen we were the better side and I hope we’ll have impressed a few, not just with our football, but with our attitude.”
