Albion draw Portsmouth in cup

cup.jpg

Albion will face Portsmouth in the FA Cup semi-finals.

The Baggies will face Pompey at Wembley in the last four with Championship rivals Barnsley and Cardiff playing in the other semi final.

The draw was made today by former Albion manager Bryan Robson, who pitted his former club against the only remaining Premier League side.

The omens are good for the Baggies, who played Portsmouth on their way to winning the cup in 1931 and 1968.

Albion boss Tony Mowbray said it would be a tough game against Pompey.

He said: “I had no preference as to who we drew because any semi-final is a tough game.

“Harry Redknapp has built a powerful side who are enjoying a terrific season.

“We’re very respectful of the talent they possess but we’ve earned the right to play this game and we’re looking forward to the challenge.

“For the time being, our minds are fully focussed on the five important league games we face before we go to Wembley – starting against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.”

The ties will be played on the weekend of April 5 and 6.

Well predicted wwfc4eva. That’s exactly how the draw went down. Not what we wanted. Think Portsmouth’s name is on the cup.

Beat Pompey and we’ve won the FA Cup IMO

Typical Robson, struggled to do anything right when he was the manager!!
We now take on the tag of the under dog. Wanted Barnsley, if not Cardiff, i just do not fancy our chances against Pompey.
Very good away from home, and do not concede many goals, oh well, it will be a great day out.

Play Cardiff in the final and that will be an UEFA place for certain as cardiff and licensed in Wales!

we’ll see you cryin at wembley (AGAIN!!!)

  14. Spuggy Baggie said:

TonyWBA - Smack on. Agree 100%. More importantly, this will be a good measure of how we would manage if we get to the promised land. If we lose in the semi to a team from the division above then so be it.

Bloody Robson. Bet he was thinking “Stuff you Peace!” when he pulled that out.

  15. baggyboys34 said:

They are probably the toughest opposition left in… the again if arsenal chelsea man u or liverpool were still in we would consider pompey an easy team…
they are in this fa cup the hardest from an easy set of teams

come on the albion…. beat pompey and its the double baby!

  16. wolvesmod said:

lol what you all moaning at. The pressure is all on portsmouth, they are expected to win the cup. What have the other three teams got to lose?

I personally think you’ll win it.

And can’t really see the point in wolves fans laughing either. Because at the mo, we are the laughing stock.

Considering the ties you have had prior to the semi-final (relativley easy) this tie will show how good really you are. By no means a fore gone conclusion but you’ll certainly have your work cut out. All the best anyhow! Up the Wanderers

  24. AMS said:

I think WE are the toughest opposition in the cup. We have experience of new wembley and the tag of underdogs could unlock the performance that we know we are capable of. David James has been doing well recently so he is due to drop a clanger and there you go. 1912 was a long time ago but we owe Barnsley so we will have them in the final. No Fear - not now - dam sight easier than Playing Man U.
Robbo should never make an FA Cup draw again - is there anything he can get right these days ? ;)
Still enough of that for now. We’ve got 3 massive points to play for on Wednesday night time to get our heads down and work for that and forget the cup for a few weeks.
Let’s continue to be the twelvth man for TM, Home away and at Wembley, and back them all the way.

  25. Loyal-Cannock-Wolf said:

    7. Small minded how exactly?

Any so called wolves fan who kisses Albions backsides you call ‘real fans,’ Whereas anyone who says what they think are small minded saddos? or just ‘dingles.’ Well Wolves aren’t meant to like Albion and vice versa, it’s called rivalry… Albion have done very well to make the semi finals, better than Wolves obviously, And there’s no doubt that its anyone’s cup, but I for one hope you bow out against Pompy.

You lot think your absolutely amazing, when you know your still likely to mess up in both the league and cup. You’ve got the best goal scoring ability in the league but also a one of the dodgy-est backlines, thats why you lose to rubbish teams just like everyone else.

I’d say good luck but i’d really be lieing.

    Bring on D-DAY!

  26. BoingBoing666 said:

hmmm, i see The Sun still has a media block on us huh?? not a mention of albion winning.

    17 - unbelievable…. no shame whatsoever.

You make two trips to wembley in 2 years sound poor.
We may have lost last time - we may even lose this time… but at least we are THERE.

Admit it - you would give ya right arm to see your team at wembley - but it aint gonna happen this year is it.

Who cares what idiots like you think - we love going to wembley and look forward to doing it many times over the next few years.

    ALBION Vs POMPEY
a good tie to show our class, think it will be a tight match but ov course baggies steal in the last gasps!

wolves fans what you on about, at least were actually in it. and you cant really be boasting about league performences either. you just wish you were in our position at this time. ohh yeah and saying ‘two trips wasted to wembley’ at least weve had the chance to go. ahaa! pathetic

    COME ON YOU BAGGIES!

Worst draw for us but we’llhave West Brom any day of the week . Cardiff take Barnsley . Easy pickings PLAY UP POMPEY

  30. we8wba said:

16 - so right, wba got no pressure on them, if they lose oh well bit upset but had great day out
    win and your favs

3 - over confidence in that comment, i know pompey favs so you knock them out yes your favs, but cardiff have good record vs you and already knocked you out in one cup

  31. Spuggy Baggie said:

17 - Gloat all you want. We’re guaranteed a trip to Wembley in the FA Cup semi. If we win that, we’ve got either Barnsley or Cardiff in the final. We’re fourth in the league, five points of the top with two in hand. With Mick in charge, you’re looking more likely for a trip to League 1.

Admit it, you’re on here mouthing off because you’re jealous.

  32. BaggieDave said:

    16. I’ve got time for you but as for 5, 12 and 13 ????? who knows. Quite right what you say, it’s
mainly been the year for the underdogs so far in this cup. Great that it didn’t happen to us
yesterday and confident we can pull this one off. Thanx for your prediction and I hope we prove
you right. Looking forward to our derby soon, sorry about the delay but we have had other things

NICE ONE ROBBO : Bryan as done us a big favour paring us with Portsmouth. The match will probable be played on saturday and we will be underdogs,so we aint got nothing to lose and everthing to gain. SEE U DOWN THERE.

we beat pompey in 1931 won the cup & promotion, beat pompey 1968 won the cup, when pompey won the cup in 1939 they beat us in the 4 th round, great draw bring it on,i`d rather be playing pompey than cardiff.

  39. Wall Heath Wolf said:

Well done to the Baggies they deserve some reward for the quality of their football, entertainment value and the amount of goals they have scored this season. They will give Pompey a game and with a little bit of luck get to the final and I hope they go on to lift the trophy. Having endured the trash that MM has conspired to serve up to us this season we deserve absolutely zilch. Jealous of course we are !!

  40. rs10-3 said:

33000 to each team I think.

  41. Happy_baggie said:

So its the semi final of the cup - and its STILL not the biggest prize we can win this year.

To LCW and Clapham and evryone else who wants Pompy to win… WE DON’T CARE.

When you follow a team like us we know that we will get many jealous comments from teams who achieve nothing - its understandable.

So feel free to come on here and post your little jealous messages. far from upsetting us, its really very funny. We will still have agreat day at wembley, we will still be playing for automatic promotion, and we will do it all watching great football.

What have you got to look foward to apart from MM getting sacked - nothing.

    Bye bye.

  42. WORCESTERBAGGIE said:

33,000 going to wembley brilliant, bring it on portsmouth.everybody keeps knocking us this season but we keep coming back,,underdogs is fine with us,like i have said a few times this season, west brom will win when you dont expect them to.so dont be suprised to see us lift the cup,id rather play pompey now than in the final, come on me babbies we can do it..DOING THE DOUBLE THE MOWBRAY WAY,,,IN STYLE OF COURSE,,,OH YES.

  43. Greg Cooper said:

Oh well, your run was nice while it lasted - good to see Robbo doing the business for you again! lol… everyone wanted to avoid Pompey so it’s such a shame that you drew them. Hahahahahahaha… throwing it all away (again) the Mowbray way.

  44. wbabomber said:

I view Portsmouth with great affection (letting us beat them on survival Sunday).
I was hoping this was going to be the final but hey ho.
Just organising the day out will be fun, hope its a good game and we can beat the odds, a call to all Albion fans, just enjoy the day and whatever happens, happens!!!

  45. Clapham Wolf said:

    41. Who do you support? Man Utd? Oh, sorry I forgot, you like us, support an average championship side playing OK football.

It’s hilarious to see how wound up you are over some harmless football banter. Who cares really if you win or not. There are more important things in life to get upset over, well for some of us anyway.

It’s clearly getting to you so maybe you should just get back to your knitting and leave the banter to the boys who enjoy it.

  46. Chris said:

Personally I wish Albion all the best.I dream of an all championship final . One in the eye for the ever more greedy FA Premier League and the odious corporate ticket culture of wembley.
Wouldn’t the fans be better pff without a Wembley semi tho? In terms of tickets each club would surely get more at the Emirates or Old Trafford.

what a turn around within a couple of hours from having wolves fans on here wishing us luck and saying welldone and now the draws been made and its against portsmouth they all change there minds and weve blew it,,,oh well everyone keep running us down and we will carry on doing what we do best, playing exciting football and winning,,,DOING THE DOUBLE THE MOWBRAY WAY,,,IN STYLE OF COURSE,,OH YES.

tried to be nice but you lot are still up your own asses.
you beat bristol rovers thats all and it could have been so different. bet you wasn’t feeling so clever in the first half when they were playing you off the park. and you couldn’t say it was because they were kicking your girls. sorry meant players.
you lot are not as great as you like to believe or you would be well clear at the top of the championship.
i have changed my mind i hope you get a good pasting and that’s not jealousy its just i have read some of your crap on here.

Clapham - you obviously care otherwise you would not be commenting on here and updating the posts - I care cos its my team. And no , we aint Man Utd - but we aint an average championship team either. And when were you lot playing ok football ? All your fans are saying its dreadful… but maybe you don’t know any better or you don’t mind watching dross.

Anyway, why am I discussing the FA Cup (or promotion, or attacking football) with a dingle ??

You critisise me for not taking banter, but you are soon back when someone answers your pathetic jealous comments.

knit one, pearl one, bend one, curl one….

  54. Super Stripes said:

Guys, why get heated about the silly dingle comments? At the end of the day it’s what this is all about, banter! To be honest i wish wolves would actually do something so we could have a go back but never mind. Come on you wolves give us some competition!! ha ha.

Anyway will be a great day regardless the result and would you back against free scoring mighty baggie boys?? Not on your nelly.

P.S Loyal, what is it D-Day for? Ha ha you silly little boy.

  55. Happy_baggie said:

Michael - you are just a broken record. We knew it was killing you to post the “well done” posts - we are pleased you can stop pretending now and revert back to the usual dross…

As for taking 33000 to wembley - you call them glory hunters, and maybe they are - but if you ever get to wembley (LOL) I bet you take more than the 20000 home fans who go to Mol most games so your argument (like all your others) is pointless.

Your suggestion that BR played us off the park is just laughable - they gave a good fight in the first half, but if you are just going to make things up then you should just be ignored - which after this post you will be.

    LOVIN IT !!!!!!

  56. michael said:

i think you will find that they did play you off the park for stages of the first half.
or was you too busy hiding.
and the reason i have changed my mind is not that i was pretending but because you lot have proved with your comments how big headed you are.

Just so you know, here’s a definition:

    ban·ter (bntr)
    n.
    Good-humored, playful conversation.
    v. ban·tered, ban·ter·ing, ban·ters
    v.tr.
To speak to in a playful or teasing way.
    v.intr.
    To exchange mildly teasing remarks.

I’m not going to wish you well because like any self respecting wolves fan I would take great delight in seeing you lose. And if the shoe were on the other foot I would expect exactly the same from you lot.

That’s why we love football. The rivalry.

This is the double in the making. We are not called the arsenal of the championship by plaudits up and down the country cheaply. We have earned the right to inspire this team, with this manager, to the most amazing heights; and we, the supporters, will be in full voice, and unstinting passion at Wembley. The heritage that the baggies possess speaks volumes, and it is matched by the verve, graft, and formidable attacking ability that TM has inbred as an ethos into the team.Biggest plus points are self belief, and the panache to play attacking, fast flowing football, in our present style. No team can live with us when we boom forward from midfield, when our playmakers are on song. This is shaping up to be the most sensational year in the teams history. We deserve it on the strength of our nerve tingling, ability to play the beautiful game, VERY beautifully. We are witnessing the albion revolution, come on you baggies…!!!
