A Wolverhampton company is helping owners of thousands of offices, factories and care homes across the UK keep a tight rein on their energy costs thanks to its state-of-the-art technology.
For more than 20 years the team at Allen-Martin has been producing computer processors that enable companies and local authorities to control the heating and lighting in their buildings, often from miles away.
It installs systems that each have a central controller which acts as the ‘brain’ collecting information from around a site and controlling when to turn the heating on and off to maintain the right temperature.
Over the past two decades Allen-Martin has built up a 3,000-strong customer base ranging from North Tyneside to Cornwall, including major local authorities.
Closer to home, the company also counts Wolverhampton council as a customer and worked with the authority to develop its latest system, Neuron.
This now allows clients to log in through the internet, using Microsoft Internet Explorer software and sidestepping the need to install special software or a dedicated PC.
And, to make it even clearer and easier to use, the new system uses Microsoft’s new Windows XAML website graphics to make it easier to understand for the user.
“We believe XMAL is the way forward with all computer graphics, and puts us way ahead of the competition,” said managing director Paul Davis. “Combined with the network browser it makes it much easier for clients to log on and see what their system is doing. It is as simple as logging on to a website.
Mr Davis added: “We worked very closely with Wolverhampton council on developing Neuron. They allowed us to install it in the Aldersley Stadium leisure village to run the systems there. We have also made sure that Neuron, like all our other developments, can be used in all the systems we have already installed. It is just a simple process of installing it as the new central processor.”
