Koren has change of heart on cup

korensecondceleb1.jpgRobert Koren today admitted he has become caught up in Albion’s FA Cup adventure after earlier dismissing the competition as a distraction.

The Slovenian international fears that the Baggies exploits in the Cup could detract from their campaign to win promotion to the Premier League.

But the 27-year-old is now gearing up for Sunday’s quarter-final at Bristol Rovers admitting he is now desperate to keep the run going.

“We have said before that we weren’t really focussed on the FA Cup,” said Koren.

“But now we have come so far and we are playing Bristol Rovers away we don’t want to go there and lose.

“We will do everything we can to win the game and we will see what happens.

“I have already played in a play-off final last year at Wembley so I know what it is all about and it would be really good to play there again.

“Hopefully we can get promoted automatically to the Premier League and get through this round of the FA Cup and play at Wembley.”

Koren admitted he has half an eye on a potential place in the FA Cup final after the draw opened up with the loss of many Premier League sides.

“We need to be focussed on each game and now we’re only talking about Bristol Rovers in the next round of the cup,” said Koren.

“We will just do our best to get through but of course many of the big teams have already gone out and we will try to stay in the competition for as long as possible, maybe until the final.

“We need to be more focussed on the league games but we now have the FA Cup in front of us and we will do everything we can to win this game.”

And the popular midfielder has pinpointed Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday as the ideal blueprint for success at the Memorial Stadium.

“We will try to play the same way defensively, stay really compact and not give cheap goals away,” he said.

“Then offensively we can try to play good football, create chances and score goals.

“We expect that the pitch will be the same as it was at Sheffield Wednesday, which was a really bad pitch.”
