Airmen told to ditch uniforms

RAF servicemenRAF staff have been told not to leave an RAF base in uniform to avoid being verbally abused by civilians.

Officers at RAF Wittering reported that servicemen have been taunted by people in nearby Peterborough who oppose UK involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Although military staff are encouraged to wear uniform in public, a local decision was made against doing so in the city, the Ministry of Defence said.

The government is said to be investigating as “a matter of urgency”.

That is outrageous, they should be able to wear it with pride. If i ever saw somebody insulting a person who has fought for our country i would step in myself

Another disgraceful situation under New Labour.

My Dad proudly fought for “Great” Britain. He used to tell me that if he and his mates abused anyone in “uniform” they would be put on report and put in the glass house because they were abusing the “Crown”

    Does this apply now?

If not, why don’t this Government who love to make a new law every other day create a law to arrest anyone who abuses the “Uniform” of this Great Country send them off the Iraq or Afghanistan to peel spuds for our forces.

Note! I have been calling this Country “Great”

Although this New Labour Government is disintegrating all that is Great about “our” Country there are still millions who are “proud” of being English and Great British. This will show at the next election.

Don’t be intimidated Guys be proud of your uniform and wear it with pride.

This is disgraceful but can I ask Dudley Bloke how this is the governments fault? It’s morons in the street doing this and if I ever saw somebody spitting at a member of our armed forces or abusing them in any other way I would step in and happily defend that soldier however necessary. Top all those who condone this behaviour, you’re a disgrace to the nation and should move to France!

Outrageous! When you cannot even punish your kids. If the good people of Peterborough are so annoyed by the war let them make their point through the ballot box not by abusing men and women who are dying for their country. They did not, have not nor ever will ask to be sent to a war zones, they go there at the will of Her majestys Government, namely politicians. Get off the forces’ back morons.
