Mother dies in fire-hit house

Farndale Avenue fireA woman in her 60s has died after a fire broke out at her Wolverhampton home.

The woman, who has not yet been named, was found dead in the bedroom of the semi in Farndale Avenue, Whitmore Reans, just after 7 last night.

According to witnesses, the alarm was raised by a family member who had come to visit and found she had locked herself in the bedroom.

Fire crews had to break the door down to gain entry to the room only to find she had already died.

Three crews attended the scene and a rapid deployment unit was used to get into the room.

The only sign of the incident at the house this morning was a blackened window in the front bedroom.

A neighbour said: “It’s a terrible shame because I have known the lady for years. She was a very private person and kept herself very much to herself.

“I’ve heard her son tried let himself into the property, but found she’d locked herself in the bedroom.”
