Willenhall boss warns full back

Willenhall Town FCWillenhall boss Dean Edwards has warned Scott Stamps to ship up or get out in the countdown to tomorrow’s home clash with Rothwell.

The former Kidderminster left-back missed training on Tuesday when he claimed he had a mouth full of ulcers – but it didn’t wash with Edwards.

“Scott is treading a very thin line because his training hasn’t been up to scratch and I won’t tolerate players not coming to training,” said the boss.

Edwards is confident of a good result for tomorrow as he selects from his strongest squad of the season.

Willenhall have key midfielder Mark Briggs available again after a trial in the USA as well as new signing Karl Edwards gelling with Tyrone Barnett up front as they try to improve on their fifth bottom position.

“We had a full quota of lads training on Tuesday and I told them all individually I wouldn’t swop them for any player in the league,” said the Reds chief.

And after recruiting striker Karl Edwards as well as former League players Stuart Brock and Stamps, Edwards stressed his squad now have to start living up to their reputations.

“They should look at the table and think ‘why are we down there?’ As a collective unit, I have to question their desire to be winners,” he said.

“It’s not a false position because tables don’t lie – we are where we are because of results, but whereas things went for us last season, they’ve gone against us this time.

“Clubs have hand-picked players off us and we’ve shot ourselves in the foot. The only thing we need to do is believe in ourselves. It’s something we will put right – 100 per cent.”
