Luckless Villa full-back Stephen O’Halloran will be out for up to nine months after damaging cruciate ligaments.
Scans yesterday revealed the full extent of the damage sustained as the Republic of Ireland warmed up before what would have been his debut on loan for Leeds at Swindon on Saturday.
“I was hoping the damage wouldn’t be so bad – that it would be cartilage or something, but this is a big blow,” said O’Halloran.
“Now I’m going to be out for quite a while.”
The 20-year-old who is still to make his competitive Villa debut, failed to play in his previous spell out on loan at Southampton when he was caught up in Saints boss George Burley’s appointment as Scotland manager.
