Wolves boss’ anger at web critics

kyle.jpgBoss Mick McCarthy is set to hand Kevin Kyle a major role in tonight’s crucial Molineux clash with Southampton after furiously rounding on the striker’s internet critics.

With McCarthy set to revert to a 4-4-2 formation for the visit of Southampton, it is Kyle who is leading the race to partner Sylvan Ebanks-Blake after the big Scot impressed in two recent substitute appearances, which included a goal.

It is a remarkable turnaround for Kyle, whom McCarthy thinks joined Wolves battling against “negative equity” after internet agitators questioned his signing.

McCarthy insists he pays no attention to cyber critics, but he’s delighted to have seen them proven wrong on Kyle so far.

“I’ll tell you why there were a few murmurings about Kevin Kyle when he came in,” McCarthy said.

“Because of all the nuggets who go on messageboards and read what Coventry fans have said about him and pass on information.

“He came here almost with negative equity and has to start with a minus – it’s unbelievable and I find it incredible.

“It’s great on Saturday that they’re shouting his name, but two games ago at Cardiff he’s getting it in his earhole.

“I just think ‘give him a chance to get going and he will have an impact for us’.

“I find the criticism of him difficult to take. I know it happens, all Coventry websites and people posting things up.

“I’ve never seen one, and have no intention of looking at one, but I get told.

“It just frustrates me that he seemed to come here with a bit of baggage and with people suspicious of him.”

McCarthy signed the striker just before the January transfer deadline to give him the option of a tall, bustling player capable of frightening opposition defences.

The Wolves boss revealed he also considered signing Coventry’s other big target man Dele Adebola, who joined Bristol City, before opting for Kyle.

“I looked at Dele, we considered him.

“It’s all about the impact they can have, it’s not always that one individual’s ability.”

Well here’s another bit of internet criticism then Mick. You have a much better player in your squad called Freddie something or other. Not sure of his surname as he’s never picked.

Funny how you said the other week that most fans were behind you. Perhaps you should read Molineux Mix and see if that changes your mind.

Touchy Touchy, reading this article one suspects that the pressure is getting to Mick. Why spout off and in turn make yourself out as a bigger prat is beyond me. What is wrong with constructive critism? It would be better if MM get his mouth shut, and concentrated on the match ahead rather than causing division within the wolves fans. I find his comments, lame & shallow of a man who is getting paid alot of money to manage this football club. Remember Mick the nuggets as well as the rest of the fans are the bedrock of the club, not you so shut up! So what if KK is not the fans favourite, its up to him to turn his career around and performing on the pitch, which to be fair he has. Whats wrong with fans having an opinion, thats what the message boards where designed. Perhaps Mick you ought to buy yourself a laptop you muppet!

    MICK OUT

you can’t question kyles effort and i’m sure he would hold his hands up and admit he isn’t the most accomplished striker but i for one feel he is good enough for the championship and will and has been doing a decent job for us!!!! if he had a bit of support from fans it would only make him a better player!!!

Thats why he did not sign for us, he had a chat with MIKE McINDOE.

Dear Mick - the negativity has nothing at all to do with Coventry City websites. It all comes from the fact that ever since you have been manager at the club we have struggled to score goals. In Kevin Kyle we have brought in a striker that has scored 18 goals in an 8 year career. The fact that he is still earning a living as a striker with that factual record is quite incredible.

  11. wolveswolves said:

He’s not a striker, midfielders have scored more goal than him.
But he can help out the poor defence and put a shift in.
He’s a Thick Mick man through and through.

Amazing how he plays in front of Eastwood and Keogh.
It just sums up why we call him thick mick

simple!! adebola ain’t irish or ex sunderland. and as fot the “nuggets” who go online, are the same nuggets who buy season tickets and stand on the terraces. sorry but this is bang out of order, and moxey should make mcarthy appologise for slagging of the supporters like that. mcarthy is struggling to keep the fans on side as it is, remarks likethat will alienate him completely.
i was going to support him tonight, but now i’m gonna let him know what a nugget he is.

disgusting, so to my southbank friends let him have it tonight.

    3. You mean Freddie that threw his teddy out of the pram when he wasn’t going to get on the pitch on Saturday - and the one that despite numerous chances to impress in the reserves and thus get his place back strolls around the Bucks Head as if he couldn’t care less? True he was harshly dropped back in September, but has done nothing to win his place back as far as I can see.

Kyle isn’t a long term answer, but is doing a good job at the moment for us. If only the ‘McCarthy out’ brigade could look past their irrational dislike of all things Mick - then they’d realise that. The same goes for Collins and Elliot.

We have 13 games left to rescue this season from ending in disappointment, lets get behind the Wolves and judge at the end of the season.

Apparently I write a blog fit to be read only by nuggets!

Madness. Someone read this and tell Mick that the internet is something quite a lot of people use to good effect. Lawro said something similar a couple of weeks ago when he claimed that people who go the net are all geeks.

I was part of that negativity when Kyle arrived, and probably for good reason. His return of around 2 or 3 goals per season is never really going to have a big impact is it?

Mick is still treading a fine line with the fan’s confidence and by playing Kyle up front from the start, he is taking another big gamble.

Lets just hope for our sakes, and not his, that it comes off.

  20. Gold's the new black said:

It certainly does means your thick.
Yes lets sack Mick who is 2 points off the play offs with a game in hand and with 12 games left.
God forbid we actually go up ( you certainly hope we dont)
You speak no sense at all.

  21. Caribbean Wolves said:

Hi fellow ‘nuggets’. I do not think anyone posts on here hoping thick mick will read it. Maybe the rumours of his illiteracy are true, who cares but he and Moxey would do well to tape his mouth shut. The fans will turn on him in numbers and once that happens nothing will save him. Alex Ferguson has earned the right to talk back to fans and when MM has earned respect he will get it. Until then focus on sending a team out that can crush the likes of Colchester not scrape ugly wins. This league is so poor that with his budget we should be ten points clear at the top. It is all about belief and under MM the players do not have it, the table never lies and a -2 goal difference with our strikers means we are clueless up front as the goals against is good.

  22. Weston Wolf said:

I do wish Mr. Morgan and Mr Moxey would have a quiet word with Mick.
Every day he is apparently coming out with more and more bizarre comments and frankly his constant
critiscm of Wolves fans is a little odd.
I’ve said it before on this site but I suspect they are letting him dig a big hole for himself.
Call your fans any name you care to Mick - there are one or two who have a few choice words to describe your astonishing team selections and tactics this season. Concentrate on winning football matches and
playing entertaining football - you may see that we could warm to you then !

  23. john larceny said:

you’ve done it now, youve called some loyal fans nuggets.

why cant he hive freddy the support that he’s given kyle?

mick and jez are in the clouds, we need a regime change.

  26. rowley,wolves said:

    why has he said this?
why upset so many wolves fans, who pay big money to support there beloved club?
any fans in the country would be upset to see kyle come to there club & freddie treated like he has been.
mick, keep your mouth shut, get on with your job & prove us all wrong.also you are not helping kyle,he now has even more pressure on him because of these comments.

  27. WombourneWolf said:

Nathan - Keogh doesn’t have a much better scoring record than Kyle but certainly has a big impact on our play when he is on top form. Kyle is there to win headers and hold the ball up, and against Stoke at home he did that very effectively, and also scored away at Palace with a belter.

Personally I think Mick is right. Wolves message boards are full of unnecessarily negative comments from people with nothing better to do. If the boards are to be believed, about 90% of fans want Mick out, but I’ve yet to see this reflected at matches where there’s been hardly any anti-Mick chanting.

we can stil do it if people support the players

  32. steve said:

Well there you are. You are not entitled to voice an opinion, leastways one that does not agree with Mick McCarthy! Please sir are we allowed to spend our money and still come and watch the Wolves play, as long as we promise to keep quiet?

Who does he think he is?

  33. Gibbonsaresmelly said:

The muppetts deserve all they get. The criticism of Kyle is completely unjustified. I really don’t know how much clearer i can make this point, but for all the people out there without a football brain i’ll try again. Kyle is a target man - We have NO other target men in the squad. If as Nathan says he gets us two to three goals and they turn draws into wins then thats a BIG impact! Remember this fella is on loan, if he makes that sort of impact great, if not then what have we lost? I know we have to pay his wages but it’s not really that much of a gamble, when put into the context of the wage bill as a whole. He will also hold up the ball and bring other people into the game. Although we may be inclined to play a more direct style with Kyle in the squad, we have to remember that we are playing in the championship. Would we complain if it got us in the play-offs?

  34. Norfolk Wolf said:

This article is a disgrace! MM should make a public apology as everyone is entitled to an opinion and he is refering to the FANS!!! Season ticket holders and people who travel lots of miles to follow their club.
How to alienate your paying public - Moxey should read the comments and ensure MM apologises. He had lost
most of the fans anyway this has just cased it for the rest!

  36. Mike said:

Mick , I think that you do need to be careful about what you call the fans who care so much about our football club . In many instances it is the very very poor fare that has been on offer this season that has made some of them so frustrated that they vent their feelings through the noticeboard rather than at the matches . Other than the Cardiff debacle that is . Each of the people who write in , including our excellent Blogger Nathan , have valid points to make about the teams performance , the style of play adopted , your strange team selections and your overwhelming loyalty to players from your previous occupation . Before you insult the literate efforts of genuine fans who feel they need to make a valid point I suggest you need to understand that WE ARE WOLVES not a team of ex sunderland cast offs who you took to such dizzy heights of the worst premier team ever seen . Last weekend we had 5 ex sunderland players in the starting 11 and one on the bench who came on . That is one of the reasons I would suggest that has made the fans question your ability .

  37. Golden Blood said:

I could not agree more Mick. I love the fact you call some of these nuggets for what they are. Negative destructive idiots. All they want to do is drag people down and critisise even if they have not kicked a bvall.

Kyle is looking like a great signing in my opinion and is already proving to have more of an impact coming off the bench than Eastwood.

The issue people have is not with Kyle but with the fact Eastwood is not playing. Question. Why should Eastwood play. He has not scored sinse August. Kyle scored 2 games ago. Get real guys Kyle is going to be more of a threat than Eastwood.

  38. wolves_84 said:

We would be thick if we thought that the rubbish we have had forced on us this season is good football. We have been made fools of.

If you think that this rubbish is worth paying these prices for then you are as thick as Mick! Sorry, I shouldn’t shout at a lady, especially Sammys mum.

However, I like the idea of being a golden nugget, thanks Mick.

I had hoped that Happie-Baggie missed Micks crack about ‘nuggets’. I have a feeling that he is not going to let us live that one down… The guy doesn’t need us to give him ammunition to make his comments - he is more than capable of thinking up his own.

Oh well…I’m not a ‘nugget’ cos I support Mick providing the team improves. I don’t whinge or boo when we play badly because I believe the players try hard and don’t want to upset their fans. What will he call me then?

I might be called a ‘Mugitt’ if your cynical. Or might he call me a ‘buggaritt’ or even a ‘Blogitt’. I want a name from Mick. A prize for the best suggestion….

  83. Rob said:

Is it any wonder Adebola went to Bristol?!! The way you lot all fail to support the team I’m not surprised at all! Mick may well be making mistakes, but why are you all so obsessed with Eastwood? Is he banging em in for the reserves? NO. Fairplay to KK - he’s done well.

  84. DudzieWolf said:

How dare he calls Wolves fans “nuggets”, final straw with me. I cannot see him leading us anywhere and I will not put any positives between now and when he is booted out down to him. I hate him even more now, can I remind him who pays his wages

Must agree with 74 –MM is such an arrogant man!
This is such a poor division, promoted teams are just gonna be cannon fodder next season.I believe with a decent manager most of this squad with a couple of additions—leader on the pitch and a couple of decent central defenders—we could do it next year. But this guy just divides fans and players alike.

Nuggets, nuggets, nuggets!! Well done Mick for coining the phrase that will now forever apply to that small, vocal and very tedious minority of Wolves fans who spout nothing but negativity and bitterness. Look at their reaction - they don’t like it up ‘em! It seems like it is fine for them to say the most outrageous things about Mick and the boys, but when something gets said back to them it hits a nerve. You nuggets.

Reading some of this garbage makes me ashamed to be associated with Wolves supporters.

Get behind the TEAM for God’s sake even if your personal favourites are not selected. Getting on players backs demoralises the whole team not just the ‘target’ or are you too stupid to notice that? They are getting scared of playing on their own turf these days.

Most of these quotes in the article are drawn from the Wolves website. What the E&S ommitted was that MM went on to say that:
“It’s all about the impact a player can have coming into a team, and the unfortunate thing we are all guilty of is wanting everyone to be able to do everything.

It’s a case of accepting players for what they are good at rather than berating them for what they’re not”

Is he having a laugh - all he has done is berate players for not putting in a shift and not accepting them for what they can do. I may sound like a broken record harping on about Eastwood but he has a proven track record for scoring goals - not for putting in a shift! That was why we bought him wasn’t it?

It’s comments like this that are having the effect of turning the fans against MM - he is such a hypocrite!

  94. scottwolf said:

49 john larceny - what are you on about? E&S campaign to divide club and fans - these quotes are on Wolves official website! or do the E&S maintain that website as well. MM is at fault here with his ridiculous statements - not E&S.

well mick youve done it now with a comment like that the fans will really be on your back the only way you can ease the situation is for the team to perform week in week out.but have you put to much pressure on them now who will be right at the end of the season.the fans?or you and your under performing team?only time will tell

You lot giving Mick a hard time ought to be ashamed of yourselves - you are no more Wolves Fans than I’m the Queen of flipping England!!!
REAL FANS get behind their Team, REAL FANS go week in/week out, come rain or shine. REAL FANS do not boo the players, at ANY time. If you don’t like it, don’t go. Go and spend your money at Stafford Rangers, I’m sure Bully could do with the extra cash.

WE ARE WOLVES!!! KEEP THE FAITH!!

Interesting comments Mick, My assessment of Kyle comes from actually having seen him play for Coventry a number of times. Perhaps you should have gone to see him play recently before signing him. Nugget. Then again, you don’t read about these online messageboards…you just “hear about it”…

you’re glad you proved us wrong with kyle? what dream world are you living in. . . he’s got one goal in 2 months and done f.a else. If that’s what you beleive to be right for this club then pack your bags now

  104. chris_sedgley_wolf said:

you’re personal discrepencies and you’re doing the mates a favour attitude have left us blind and ruined the ethic that was built from last year. Personal petty little duals which have seen us lose mcindoe who know sits top of the league, and your constant patience with your adopted sons elliot and henry who have been a joke compared to the standards we require.

And you MM are a serious hypocrit who must think we are complete mugs. Give Kyle time to settle in, just like the time you gave eastwood. . .

ebanks blake, does nothing for 80 minutes then scores a goal, fair play but we already had a striker of that element and you didn’t agree with it. . . pull the other one

He Knows the club inside out, but because the fat controller has his final say, thats why, Paul ince never got the job, in the first place!

I have been a Wolves fan for thirty years and love the club dearly but have become so frustrated by the attitude of a minority of Wolves fans (that have returned this season) who vent their frustration at their own sorry lives out on the fact Wolves aren’t Manchester United. Why don’t you all go away, like you did last season? So what if Mick has a tendency towards Irish or ex-Sunderland players? Managers work with people they know and trust. Freddy Eastwood only has himself to blame… as I was warned by a Southend friend of mine. Who was it who took the gamble on Kightly? Ebanks-Blake hasn’t been bad business. Mick can’t make Freddy want to play for Wolves… how would you respond to the way Freddy reacted after missing that penalty at Ipswich? Aim your anger in the direction of people like Freddy who work against the club, not at hard-working people like Mick who has the best intentions at heart.

PS Is nugget necessarily a derogatory term? In gold terms it isn’t so you don’t even know if he’s dissing you… If the cap fits though…

I thought in the light of recent dabates that people should be aware of the Oxford dictionary meaning of the word nugget.
    It means either;
A small lump, typically of gold
    or
a nugget of information = a small valuable fact

So in answer to Mr McCarthy, Kyle has scored 18 goals in 8 years - a small valuable fact!
