Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has pledged to help new Stafford Rangers manager Steve Bull any way he can after lending him highly-rated teenage striker Liam Hughes.
The 18-year-old Wolves Academy graduate Hughes is Bull’s first signing as he moved to solve an injury crisis among his strikers.
Hughes – who had a spell on loan at Bury earlier in the season – was the top scorer in the Academy last season and has featured regularly in the reserves.
McCarthy is backing Hughes to pick up a few tips on goalscoring from the Molineux legend during his month’s loan.
“I sent Bully a text to wish him all the best in his new job,” McCarthy said.
“He said he might give me a call for some help and advice and I offered to help him any way I can.
“We’ve sent young Liam out to get some experience and if he can’t learn something from one of the best scorers there was then there’s something seriously wrong.”
Hughes goes straight into the squad to face Farsley for Bull’s first official game since taking over.
Rangers are expecting their biggest crowd of the season as tickets have been selling fast for what has become a high-profile game under the glare of the media.
They will include former Villa and England star turned TV pundit Stan Collymore, who resurrected his career at Rangers.
Bull is well aware of the effect the razzamatazz could have on a Rangers team fighting for their lives in the Blue Square Premier.
The 42-year-old Wolves legend said: “There’s going to be a lot of coverage, but I’m going to take the pressure off the players by being in the limelight.
“All I want them to do is go out and play and fight for everything.””
After a four match unbeaten run, hopes are rising that Bull can pull off a great escape and keep Rangers in the Blue Square Premier.
However, three of the clubs four goalgetters, Nathan Smith, Marco Adaggio and Del Olaoye are all doubts.
“It’s no use moaning that we haven’t got this or that, we’ll have to compensate with what we’ve got and there are some good utility players here,” said Bull.
“It was absolutely brilliant the way they came back at Histon - one of the best comeback games I have seen.
“They need to show the same determination and passion against Farsley, and keep it going for the next 15 games. We’ve got Liam initially for a month and we’ll see how it goes after that.”

ur a legend in my eyes whatever…
All the best Steve u deserve it
I am sure you will be a great success Steve. You might just keep them up, but if it is too late to save them this season nobody would bet against you bringing them straight back up when you have had time to get things sorted.
Learn your trade, show what you can do and then come back and do it at Molineux
Bully, if it’s management advice you want try ringing Graham Turner, Graham Taylor or even Mowbury rather than MM - the advice you receive would probably be FAR better
Mad mick will help the albion old boy,
By keeping away from him.
Went to see the Histon game midweek. Bully looked a bit frustrated being on the touchline - but listening to the subs warming up you could tell they were really keen to impress him and will take his advice. The game seemed to swing completely when Rangers started to get a bit of confidence. I’m sure the influence of Bully and a bit of a crowd can really make a difference. After all Bully did for Wolves and Wolves fans it’s time to give a bit back - go watch and give Bully and his team some support - he deserves it.
if thick mick thinks bully can teach him so much, why wasn’t he working with our strikers?
Think thr title should be the other way round.
“Bully in Wolves Boss pledge”
It is amazing to read of all this support for a Bully-inspired revival at Marston Road. Wish I could be there tomorrow. All you Wolves fans who go tomorrow will be much appreciated and jsut what the club needs.
Heading to Stafford from Malvern tomorrow and really looking forward to it. Come on boys be there for Bully!!!
I have a way better plan! Let MM for to Stafford FOREVER!
bully if you want a promising career in management dont go to mm for advice!
I don’t think Bully goes to MM for advice…just for players! If he can loan Wolves squad players, he’ll get the best out of them…and at that level they’ll all be superstars anyway.
Simon
lend him Eastwood…
what a bunch of fickle fans we have down the wolves,mm done such a great job last season because of the support when things were not going so well (southampton at home), now because he has spent a few quid you have gone back to the old way of barracking the team because results have not been great, remember g.taylor,g.hoddle,plus others, the wolves fans got them the sack by booing instead of supporting when times are hard, and if you cannot see what you are doing to the team ,we will always be a championship side.
mm needs to sort is own team out before he tries to give anyone any help or advise
Mystified….
I am too. Last season was last season. MM has reversed things this term and frankly our quality of football is poor.
We’re not fickle, we’re realistic unlike yourself.
See you at Marston Road.
boggie1 - Bully may have started at the poorthorns but a boggie old boy!! listen to the way he talks & his attitude to “sandwell town” (his words)& you’ll see he wants no association. After all wasn’t it the boggies who told him he’d neve make it as a pro footballer, shows what some people know.
