Wolves boss cool on loans

elliott.jpgWolves will resist the temptation to bring in a replacement for injury-stricken Michael Kightly – as Mick McCarthy backs Stephen Elliott to continue on the right-wing.

Kightly was ruled out for the rest of the campaign yesterday after specialists confirmed he will need an operation on the ankle injury that has prevented him from starting a game since November.

The winger is due to go under the knife today but McCarthy is in no rush to snap up a like-for-like replacement.

Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson was linked with a move to Molineux yesterday but McCarthy indicated today that Elliott will be given an extended run in the wing role he occupied to good effect at Crystal Palace last week.

“Kites (Michael Kightly) has been out since November and we have not had anybody in to replace him in that time,” McCarthy said today.

“We were always hoping that he was going to be back fit, of course, but Stephen Elliott has been excellent and the times he has played there he has done well.

“Bringing someone else in is maybe something we would consider but unless I think he is better than what we have got – there is no point in us doing it.

“If I bring someone in I’m not going to play him in front of Stephen Elliott anyway.”

McCarthy has been boosted by the return of Matt Jarvis ahead of tomorrow’s crucial trip to Colchester and Wayne Hennessey will also play after recovering from the concussion he suffered last week.

That is a double boost for the Molineux men ahead of what McCarthy acknowledges will be a tricky test of their promotion credentials.

The Wolves boss is warning his players not to take the Us lightly despite their lowly league position.

“It was a tough game there last year,” added McCarthy.

“I think we were the 11th team who went there and lost.

“They have lost a couple of players this year but they are still a good side and when they came to Molineux to play us they gave us a real test.”

Looks like we’ll have to take YOUR word for that:- “unless I think he is better than what we have got”.
I still think & hope Wolves can get to the Play Offs, only time will tell!

MM you’re absolutely correct in the Statement “Kites (Michael Kightly) has been out since November and we have not had anybody in to replace him in that time” but have you had a serious look at the results since then?
We’ve been useless and have tumbled from 3rd in the league!!!!!!
Elliott is not the man to replace him!!!
Bring someone in now and we just might have a chance or as we all suspect have you and the board already settled for Championship football next season?

Making these decision is after all McCarthy’s job.

McCarthy you are a joke!Do you not want promotion..???
Probably not considering your record last time you were there!

“Stephen Elliott has been excellent and the times he has played there he has done well.”

Are you having a laugh??? Do you think we are all blind???

You are an idiot and ultimately your loyalty to mediocre players will be your downfall.

Hopefully you’ll be gone in the summer.

Its MM’s decision but i think he is wrong.Look at Charlton I think they have got Sinclair from Chelsea which shows they are serious about getting promoted. Are we?

Muppet Mick’s at it again with his favourites! Look at this statement “If I bring someone in I’m not going to play him in front of Stephen Elliott anyway.” - so who is going to come on loan if he is only going to play second fiddle, particularly Johnson who is doing that for Middlesborough, a Prem club anyway!
It has been said before and it is constantly being proven, McCarthy’s favourites will play regardless of position, whether in or out of form and regardless of how good they are!
Talk about being single minded, stubborn and a total waste of space! Roll on the end of the season when I sincerely hope we push him out!

This is quite an unbelievable statement from Mick and I am one of his supporters.

Adam Johnson or Stephen Elliot there ain’t a choice in my opinion.

So there it is in a nutshell. “if i bring someone in i am not going to play him in front of Stephen Elliot anyway.” It would appear that the favoritism tag is true afterall. From the horses mouth.

we have to have a proper winger on the wing, funnily enough. Not a striker!! look at the slip in results since kightly has been out. and what a difference Jarvis has made on the left. Oh MICK!!

Erm, well at least he’s being honest about picking having his favorites.

Without Kites we have no real attacking impetus whatsoever. Pack your bags Mad Mick.

“Kites (Michael Kightly) has been out since November and we have not had anybody in to replace him in that time,” McCarthy said today.

In that time we dropped from 3rd to mid-way. Yet, it hasn’t yet dawned on the Mighty Mick that there might be a connection between these two events!

With a squad the size of this one, why is there no cover for Kites?

No idea how to manage a club, just makes it up as he goes along.

    FOR GOD’S SAKE, JUST GO!

I think you should keep this man for at least ten years,
give him time to take you into the Blue square conference league.
Do you think that any good young players would want to come to you, the way Mad Mick treats players
You will have all the In MM we trust idiots on now

This guy only talks in crass superlatives!

“Excellent!” What does that mean, objectively “excellent” like Ronaldo or Torres or “excellent” meaning that for a mediocre striker, he’s not doing that bad stuck out on the wing!

Firstly, best ever buy Ward was stuck out on the wing, now it’s Elliott’s turn!

Loyalty is a great virtue but when blindly applied and unfairly impacts on the Eastwoods, Rosas and Davieses of this world, it’s dangerous!

Only Henri Camara can compare to Mick in rapid descent from sainthood to outcast!

what a pathetic statement from a pathetic, delluded and stubborn idiot! So what he is saying is that if an actual winger who has good quality becomes available he wouldn’t play them. have all you happy clappers still got faith in this muppet. sm get rid now and give someone the rest of the season to assess the situation.

wasnt that jhnson who came on midweek, he played on the right and did very well.Elliot on the right is a joke, massive squad and we aint got noone to play right midfield, play Jarvis on the right.

  25. 100% Wolf said:

Unless it is a smokescreen for the imminent loan signing of a quality winger
I am absolutely disgusted by this statement from MM.
We need pace and the ability to deliver quality into the box, something which Elliot CANNOT do.
Whilst those with ambition are signing players to bolster their run in (Luke Moore & Scott Sinclair to name two) we apparently are happy to tread water and hope for the best….NOT GOOD ENOUGH !!!!

That is a pathetic comment, you have lost my faith in you Mick. I have said all along you should at least be given to the end of the season to turn things around but after that comment I am jumping on the wagon.

    MICK OUT MICK OUT

all this Johnson malarkee, get a grip, i bet the majority of you havn’t even seen him play.

WOW!!! ONE PLAYER IS REALLY GOING TO CHANGE OUR SEASON!

    JUST LIKE GIBSON HAS DONE!

a few weeks ago at the watford cup game MM was commenting on how Elliot was clearly NOT a winger, now he is a winger!
Elliot is willing runner, he played very well against palace but a winger he is not. A winger is a specialised position, just look at how Anelka struggled in that position on sunday.
If MM has any ambitions to get to the play offs he needs another winger with Jarvis and Elliot and co will be slated by the fans if he insists on playing them there. He could always give Rosa a chance…. just dreaming

  36. Oldgoldwulf said:

Keep your head buried firmly in the sand… “In Mick we trust” eh? LOL!!!

  37. stourbridgewolf said:

I don’t understand all these calls for Rosa to be brought into the team, he is rubbish and always has been, he scores a few in the reserves wow, so did Leon Clarke. Far better to bring in Dan Jones on left wing with Jarvis on the right.

I might even be tempted to play Mark Litte on the right wing, can you remember those runs from right back last season, quality.

  38. Newbridge Wolf said:

The rest of the teams must be laughing at us. Lets face it, no manager will suceed in this job unless he brings instant promtion to the premier league, followed by a good season, pushing for europe. Why not try to work with what we’ve got. Success isn’t instant (although it very nearly was last season)

And before I get booed of with name calling, I’m not a happy clapper I just have a larger iq than you

  40. 100% Wolf said:

    38. Yes, success is not instant and I and many others appreciate that…..BUT what does annoy me is when a manager constantly picks his favourites (often in alien positions)to the detrement of the team and thus considerably lessen any chances of success in a VERY average division…..I call this clouded judgment and NOT doing the job to the best of your ability !!!

  41. Steve Bull Stand said:

Seems like on the back of 1 good result at Palace MM has concluded that 4-5-1 is the answer, that we don’t need orthodox wingers, that one striker is enough despite the fact he is employing 6, and that by packing the midfield we will get results by protecting our vulnerable back 4.
Personally I am not sure he is correct. I can see a load of draws coming up when what we need is wins.

  42. wolf72 said:

Well said Newbridge some common sense for a change!!!!

  44. BAZZA (Selly Oak) said:

Oh dear - its hardly surprising that people are on McCarthy’s back when he calls someone “excellent”, when in reality the paying supporters cant think of one really good game Elliott has had.
