Wolves urged to use defeat as spur

4barnsley-v-wolves.jpgWolves boss Mick McCarthy has told his team to use the humiliation of Cardiff to spur them on for the rest of the campaign.

The FA Cup defeat to the Bluebirds a fortnight ago was the lowest point in the McCarthy era so far and the boss insists it still irks him that his side played that badly.

“Whatever the fans said to the lads after Cardiff doesn’t affect me – I fully expect it,” he said.

“It annoys me not because of what they’re saying but because it’s my team that have put on a performance like that which has made them say it.

“That’s what hurts me, not the fans giving it out or journalists writing it or anyone saying it, it’s the fact that it’s my team that’s caused it.

“I hate it because I hate losing and even more so losing as badly as we did.

“It hasn’t happened too often since I’ve been here and maybe sometimes we need to remember that.

“I wouldn’t like to think it’s going to happen again and judging by the response from everybody it shows we’ve still got some good lads about the place and some good quality.”

McCarthy insists he will continue to ignore his critics as he plots a defiant path to the Premier League.

The Wolves boss has attracted criticism since the turn of the year

“I don’t listen to what any fans say, I don’t read what anyone writes in the paper, I don’t listen to phone-ins or what people say on the TV about my team,” he said. “I don’t listen to anyone except Ian Evans, Terry Connor, Bobby Mimms, Dave Bowman and the players.”

McCarthy is looking for a repeat of the Palace display at Colchester on Saturday.

“We’ve shown we are capable of picking up points away from home but it’s all about keeping that level of performance.”

Another day, another set of idiotic comment from Mad Mick.
I just wished if we have to put up with him someone could glue his mouth together.
Might help his team talks as well

Every day in every way Mick McCarthy comes across as totally bonkers.

Doesn’t listen to what anyone says ?
    Doesn’t read newspapers ?
Doesn’t listen to phone-ins or what people say on tv ?

Why on earth are the club allowing MM to make such inane comments to the press each day ?

Unless as I feel they are letting him dig a hole for himself and will have justification at the end of the the season to relinquish him of his duties at Molineux ?

It seems mm is trying his best every day to convince us all he’s not bothered by what we say or think about our beloved wolves!
If your not bothered mm you wouldn’t mention it almost every day in the press!!

“I don’t listen to what any fans say” this comments just shows what Mick thinks of the fans, who are the life and soul of the club and it shows the arrogance of the Man.

Mick you are not building any bridges with these comments.

I was there at Cardiff and after witnessing the very poor performance of the players. The fans had every the right to express their views when the players were warming down after the game.

London wolf - Thankyou for reaffirming my belief that not all wolves fans who post on these stories are complete idiots.
If i see one more Mad mick comment i may go completely beserk. The performance at Cardiff warranted the reaction it got. These quotes from Mick do not warrant the tirade of Mad Mick comments that seem to crop up no matter what he says. Has it occured to anybody that these quotes from Mick may not have been given today? Or that it’s the press who continue to ask how he feels about the criticism? You can bet if he stopped answering their questions he’d be criticised for it!
Oh, and TerryWalsallBaggie, are you suggesting that defeats shouldn’t be used to spur on teams? Should we dwell on them and look to repeat the performance? I certainly hope that Monotone Mowbary does just that. Leaving you to cry into your stripy pillow, as you realise your last parachute payment season has gone up in smoke.

Well said MIck. Dont listen to some of the idiots on these web sites spouting comlete drivel week in week out. You have to do it your way otherwise you will regret it.

I see a couple of posts labelling anyone who is anti MM as an idiot. What exactly are we all missing this season thats so good about MM ? Ive been watching Wolves for a bit longer than even Kent Wolf and I cant remember a more depressing season since the Bhattis.

  23. Simon in Oklahoma! said:

    20. Terry… So is your TREBLE going to be crying at Wembley last season and twice this season?

    22. Bemused Wolf. Even the Bhattis got us promoted into the old first division, which is now the premier league!

    Simon :)

  24. rolowolf said:

I’m still with Mick. The problem is that unlike last season, our fans expect us to go up this year. How many times do we have to learn? You can’t have that attitude in this league. Last year we all got behind the team despite how bad things got - remember the Southampton home game? We need to get behind the team again. We’ve had one season in the top flight in twenty years. Who are we kidding? We’re not a big club anymore. Let’s bring down the expectancy level, cut out the boos and support our young side. Come on you Wolves!!!!

  25. scottwolf said:

    That’s right rolowolf

Let’s just accept that we are not going to get promoted.

Let’s accept that we have a manager who doesn’t give a damn about what the fans think.

Let’s accept that we have had a very poor season and that Wolves have not lived up to the pre season expectations as stated by Mr MacCarthy and Mr Morgan.

Let’s accept that there are people in the world who just do the wrong thing against others.

Let’s accept everything and not say a word because let’s face it, that’s how this country has got into the mess that is in now!

    OR

Let’s not accept it and actually use our democratic right to express our opinion when we disagree with things that are happening to our beloved club.
