Albion striker sets wins target

miller3.jpgStriker Ishmael Miller is hoping Saturday will see Albion grab the first of the 10 wins he believes they need to clinch promotion.

The Baggies have slid from top to fourth after just one win in the last six matches and stage a vital clash against fifth-placed Plymouth at the weekend.

But Miller, still working towards regaining full sharpness after recent injury problems, is convinced the team have the capacity to reel off a string of wins to settle the nerves of fans.

“If we win 10 games I think we will win promotion,” says Miller.

“If it only takes 80 points then so-be-it. I just want to win as many games as we can and we’ve got the squad and players to do it.

“We need to be on top form for the last part of the season.

“We’ve had a little blip. But I’d prefer to have a blip now with 13 games left than have a blip with two or three games left.

“We know what we’ve got to do and if we win 10 games that should get us promoted.”

Miller is having to bide his time waiting for a chink of daylight in the jam of strikers trying to get a starting place at Albion.

But he believes that has been a blessing in disguise saying: “It was my third game back from injury on Saturday and I’m still not match sharp yet.

“At least I haven’t had to rush back because other players, like Roman, have done well.”

Meanwhile, Barnsley are working towards signing Albion keeper and Anfield FA Cup hero Luke Steele on loan for the rest of the season.

Manager Tony Mowbray has agreed Steele can stay and the clubs are hoping to settle on a deal over finances.

• Albion have their first trophy of the season –  the club’s matchday programme has won the prestigious Programme Monthly Championship Programme of the Year award for the second successive season.

    That may be so.
We are sure to end up behind wolves for trophy’s as you already hold the Midlands under achievers Trophy
Along with the Whinning about the Manager Trophy.
I’m sure you will pick a few more of those prestigious types of Trophy’s up later in the season.

Ten wins needed. Your present form is two wins in eight games so with the aid of my calculator, ten wins should be on as long as you have………… forty games left. No problem.

Remind me, didn’t we do something like 9 wins out of 11 under Meggo a year or two back? The reason I’m not sure is the football was pretty dire although we won and I honestly can’t recall much other than a penalty by Igor Balis. It was a bit like watching dripping water slowly erode a stone. So is winning all that matters because we didn’t stay in ‘The Promised Land’ did we? I’d rather watch Mowbray’s team go for it. At least it will be eventful and exciting. Ossie Ardiles is meeting ‘his boys’ of 1993 tonight at The Hawthorns. He was worried we wouldn’t still like him. Then how come we all remember 1993? Because we cheered ourselves hoarse Ossie. “Darren, they score 3, we score 4″ Best team talk EVER!

As much as I’d like Albion to win those ten games Ish says we need - it ain’t gonna happen.
It looks to me like it’s going to be a roller coaster ride from now until the end of the season. In our current form there is no way we’ll win 10 out of 13.We also have to hope that other teams can do us favours along the way by defeating those teams above us.
We’ve let our chances of promotion slip once again. For a team that everyone was once predicting for automatic promotion we have under achieved so far this season. Sure, we’ve played some great football along the way, but we have lost too many games where we outplayed the opponents and should have won or at least gained a point from.Too many late goals have been let in by our defense. I just hope we can reverse our form slump before we run out of games.

AussieBaggie, mate, you’ve been upside down too long aer kid. get yourself a plane ticket for the last match, we’ll all be pleased to see you and have a celebration. It’s ALWAYS been a roller-coaster ride supporting Albion but I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. My great grandson was born just two hours ago. His Albion blue and white teddy is already waiting for him although his dad has a Villa strip to dress him in.
