Bully targets a new striker

Steve Bull has targeted his first signing for his first home game for Stafford Rangers this Saturday.

The Wolves legend saw his Rangers side make it four games unbeaten as they scored two goals in the last two minutes to salvage a 3-3 draw at Histon to close the gap to seven points from safety in the Blue Square Premier.

But Bull – again left whispering today after shouting himself hoarse from the dugout – is desperate for a striker after being forced to play full-back Damion Jarrett up front alongside veteran Neil Grayson last night.

Rangers currently have Marco Adaggio (ankle), Nathan Smith (thigh) and Del Olaoye, who was injured at Halifax all sidelined.

Stafford made light of the loss as late goals from Jarrett and Djoumin Sangare in the 89th and 90th minutes earned Rangers a point.

But Bull stressed the need for striking reinforcements before the visit of Farsley Celtic on Saturday.

“I need a striker as quick as possible, whether it be a goalscorer or someone who can hold it up,” said the boss.

“It will have to be someone on loan because we can’t buy anyone until the end of the season.

“I haven’t got any irons in the fire, but I’ve put a lot of calls in from my contacts in the game and we’re trying to get someone in for Saturday. But if not, we’ll go with what we’ve got and keep the faith with these lads.”

Thrilled Bull has been delighted with the way the players have applied themselves and added: “It was unbelievable – the lads showed great spirit.

“All I said was I wanted 100 per cent dedication and effort and they gave it to me. When we scored the third goal it felt like winning the FA Cup final. I’m trying to create in the dressing room and they’re doing it. Every ball that was going forward I was saying ‘chase, chase it down’.”  We got the lucky break with the penalty and if we’d scored in the first half, who knows, we might have won. “Everyone impressed me. The workrate of everyone who played was great. We’re all working at it together.”

I’ve an even better idea, what a good loan move this would be for Liam Hughes. Working withthe old master at his age would bring him on leaps and bounds and will do Bully a huge favour
