Anyone who tuned in at 12pm on Sunday to Sky’s coverage of our game with Reading could have been forgiven for thinking they had the wrong day, writes Villa blogger Gregg Williams.
Despite it being the scheduled programme for the game we were subjected to 27 minutes of build up to the Carling Cup final.
Even when the game started we had to put up with the screen being split in two so we could see the Spurs players arriving at Wembley.
Surely they realise that the majority of those watching the Villa match couldn’t care less about the Carling Cup?
Reading are in a relegation battle and we’re fighting for fourth place and they expect us to be interested in seeing what sort of headphones Jermaine Jenas uses to listen to his Ipod Nano?
I think i’m starting to become jaded by Sky’s treatment of our domestic game.
I really struggle to motivate myself to watch the so called ‘big four,’ and the constant tinkering with kick off times and fixtures is really unjustified.
Fair play to Spurs for beating Chelsea, but the way the media have fallen over themselves to give them gushing praise at every opportunity has been unbelievable.
I will certainly remember it if the day comes when we win a trophy again, something tells me we might get a little less coverage.
Our performance against Reading was pretty solid and we can once again be feeling confident.
Great goal by Super Marlon and there were a lot of other impressive performances.
As I’ve said before, i’m happy to be going unnoticed in our quest for Europe.
It might grate on me that Martin O’Neill and the players don’t always get the recognition they deserve but hopefully the bigger crowds at Villa Park and awesome travelling support make up for that.
Everton beating Man City may be a blessing in disguise, as the realist in me says we should be thinking more about staying ahead of the likes of Man City and Portsmouth than overtaking Liverpool and Everton.
Having said that, those two clubs have divided loyalties with their European competitions, so maybe I shouldn’t be writing us off. Only time will tell.

Hi Gregg, i watched most of your game on Sunday, and the one thing that really stands out to me about Villa this season is the balance within the team. The squad has physical strength, loads of skill, and a winning mentality. I am one of Barrys biggest fans and beleive that he is your most important player, but getting the overall balance right of a team is rarely acheived and i think Oneill should be applauded.
As a fellow blogger (Jarrod Hill) i rarely post on this page, but i wanted to extend my good wishes for the Villa for the rest of the season. I promise to post more often!!!

I thought I’d join in from the blogger union.
I would have been a tad fed up with Sky’s coverage of the game. Understandably the main interest of the day would have been on the cup final, but did we really need footage of the players making their way to the ground etc?
Have to say though that Villa are a joy to watch this season and a shoe-in for a top 6 place.

I believe sky did go over the top with the cup match and i think that they have very little respect for the Villa there was not much after villa match It cup seemed they could not get to the cup match soon enough
