Wolves clash with Scunthorpe was called off following a 5.40pm pitch inspection.
A malfunction in the undersoil heating at Molineux had put the game in serious doubt.
The club brought in industrial heaters in an attempt to thaw out the frozen section of the pitch but it was to no avail.

best result we’ve had this season!
Just aswell, atleast we will have Jarvis back next time
we can still do it. up MM, up wolves!
BLUDY JOKEEEEEEE
sham
as al fayhed would say I BLAME MI6
What a joke you lot are !!!! The so called big club in the Black Country (Staffs more like) cant even afford 50p in the meter to keep the custard warm !!! lol
what a joke, how hard is it to keep ice off grass?!?!?! heat it or jus rub it off, not rocket science! gotta feel sorry for the scunthorpe fans
So the team is not the only thing thats malfunctioning at Molineux. Just about sums things up at the moment.
unbeaten run
Probably fit Merlin and the rest of his team pretty well to now have two away games coming up instead.
Sounds like the boo boys who threatened to intimidate the players, club & team a really good confidence booster have acheived something that has not happened in the wolves history before, a game cancelled at the last minute. That was a really bright idea. Well at least the next two games are away, how many managers do you want, because another one won’t do any better with you wonderful supporters behind him or her. What a sad lot you are. Writing what the manager should do every week, every fan of course is a better Manager.
Bloody typical! The staff should be embarrased!
I THOUGHT THEY WERE TESTED EARLY MORNING BEFORE EVERY GAME! A MALFUNCTION. THE CHANCES OF THAT HAPPENING BEFORE THE EVE OF A GAME WHAT ODDS?
Thanks for letting us know early in the day that there was a problem Wolves.
Wasted journey.
Last game you let Stoke fans in the Billy Wright in the exec seats and did nothing to challenge them as they celebrated their goals; today your heating doesnt work and you dont warn us there might be a problem; add to that the shambolic playing on the field. Stuff the season ticket next year, I can go on a decent holiday for the proce of the ticket and the trips up the M40.
This sums the Wolves up at the moment, slow, clueless & inept both on and off the pitch!
money well spent mccarthy.
This postponement gives the team time to regroup after Saturday’s debacle. MM had better put the fuse back later for the underground heating!
wot a load of balls i wanted to watch us lose tonite to see mm sacked
I have to say it just about sums up the general air of failure currently at the club. We have had frezzing weather for the last 3 nights at least. why was the club not aware of the problem? Do they not have test procedures? lets face its for occassions such as this that the have the undersoil heating.
Someone will almost certainley blaim Moxey for saving on the eledctricity bill.
From the teams point of view perhapps they do need a rest!!
The groundstaff are as good as the team.
oh well. saves bein in the cold. was really positive today aswell. anyway, you know what they say…… **** happens !!1 UP THE WOLVES xx
This sums up the club. Something is rotten from top to bottom. Back room staff leaving, failing relationship with the paper, players who can’t even get motivated for the best chance most will have in their careers to get to wembley. ROLL ON THE SUMMER when we will see the real Morgan and the whole lot gets swept away and we start again with someone who has got a genuine commercial brain.
Keeps Muppet in job for another week until we get turned over by Palace (again)
Moxey - How much notice do you need of this cold frosty spell that I think everyone was aware of but your management team.
We know for a fact it was sweeping across UK & forecasted 5/6 days
ago.
But,we turn the undersoil heating on last nite…………..wow!!!!!
Ya’ra a laughing stock ya muppet.
But,thks - all I’ve got tnite is a nite in watching Liverpool/Inter & a drinking a few tinnies.
What must poor Scunthorpe think, there they were thinking they’d left behind the tin-pot grounds in league 1
NO WONDER WEST BROM CALL YOU LOT THE DINGLES! - AIN’T ELECTRICITY REACHED WOLVERHAMPTON YET?
UP THE IRON!
Arr beest me old blithers at least we cant loose
best result ever shove kightly in them heaters!!!!!!!
Put that axe away Morgan, well, till next week.
what a joke of a club couldnt even beat the frost
Having just travelled 80 miles for nothing i’m a bit peeved but hey at least we did’nt lose.
Im so annoyed, made the trip all this way with all the costs to find out last minute the game was off! So disapointed its untrue. A very angry dublin wolves fan here!
Best result for a while. Now lets get Incey back install some desire and steel in the club and put this club where it belongs in the Premiership !!
Really, we need Mick’s statement on this. Still, I suppose it would have been a ‘hard’ match - ha, ha……
Just logged on and expected the usual bad news. Had to laugh when I heard they could not get the undersoil heating working! Sort of seemed very apt, nothing really works at the Mol anymore, apart from Jez’s spin machine. Why did we not put Moxey on the pitch for a conversation with Micky Mouse? The hot air produced would have melted an ice cap! Anyway putting the anti-depressants away until Saturday.
Maybe we should use a big club like Walsall to hold our games in the winter as were not capable!!! and to think we are supposed to a sleeping giant premier team. I think our pitch is about as good as our team at the momment.
..Moxey and Morgan trying to put a positive spin on it, well they will start with
“Wolves didn’t lose the game”
“We had the right squad to win 6-0″
“Merlin’s wand malfunctioned”
“The heaters failed us again!”
“It’s warm in the clubhouse!”
“..another pint and pie barman..burp”
Bloooooooddddddeeeey ‘eellllllll
Anybody to be held responsible for this latest cockup and the complete mishandling of the timing of the clubs announcements?
Does anybody at the club know that people still travel long distances to attend Molineux inspite of the rubbish we are seeing at the moment?
well we aint given no points away !!! what was going to be a dead cert
do we get a fine or something?
what a joke we cant even beat a bit of frost what chance a football team good job it was called off scunny would have won and mm would have been sacked you live anouther day mm but palace will put you to the sword its crystal clear lose and the golden palace will be free of you and nigel clough will come in and prove most of these players are good played in there right positions
Moxey said in a interview on Radio WM last night tnhat MM is going staying at the club, that he is only 18 months into a 3 year contract, he said that we had a young squad that needs time to blend
Perhaps the frost had descended from the boardroom?? Lets hope….
I hope that those that travelled a long way to the match last night, in particular the scunny fans, should have free travel to the re-arranged game.
Being in business myself I know you’re not in it to throw money away but it may make Morgan realise what cock ups are being made by all of the management at the moment!
how typical of your average wolves fan… it’s the clubs fault that it’s frosty!
the referee called the game off as it was unsafe.. if the game had gone ahead and legs had been broken you’d all be moaning that the club are a joke for not having the game called off.
the club hired several industrial heaters to try to thaw the ice, but it didnt work in time.. what else could they do? You should be ashamed of yourselves for even pretending to be a wolves fan.
and the club made an announcement as soon as THE REFEREE called the game off, how is it the clubs fault that you travelled a few miles before hearing the news.
you lot really do make me laugh.
This is nothing short of a disgrace.
Heads should roll for this.
If we want to have aspirations of the premiership then we need to start acting like one.
I spent all day polishing my trumpet - building up my excitement, preparing to let it all out at 7.45pm. Well blow me. Bet Edward Elgar never had this problem.
I am a contractor working down south and because of changes to my working paterns I missed several games early on in the season. However things are a lot brighter on the fixture list for 2nd half of the season but this one was re-arranged and I did not want to miss another match of my season ticket so I booked annual leave - cost me £250.00 to do this, nearly the price of me early bird. Die hard fans having a rough time at the moment on and off the pitch. Do they not have an emergency breakdown contract anywhere for this? According to the wolves website it had been on for 48 hours prior, so therefore it should have been frost free for at least half of this time. Groundstaff obviously did not check its functionality during the first 24 hours or it would have been obvious something wasn’t right a lot earlier
A 3 Yr contract. Thats news to me as I thought it was a 12 month rolling contract. This is another shocking stat as I thought that the days of given long contracts to managers are over as if things didnt go well then there would not be a contract which needs paying up. This club is been run by idiots. No lessons have been learnt from the last decade. Wolves fans needs to be treated better than this. Villa after Lerner took them over are run in such a professional manner, tapping into villa’s history to make the club feel proud of themselves and getting in a top manager to guide them. What do we get, Steve Morgan the mute. He may talk a good game but where is the passion, drive, statements from him. I am sick and tired listening to moxey talking about how good a job mick is doing, how the fans have to be patient etc etc. WHAT A LOAD OF TRIPE! Wolves are a laughing stock in this country, worst than newcastle and that is bad! Where is the direction this club is going to. Where is the owner he needs to stomp up with some comments and get the fans backing otherwise the atmosphere around moli wont get better.
Palace away… I dont think we will win that game, we never do against them lot. I got my ticket so I got my long trek infront of me. I just hope MM plays freddie, if he doesnt then I have no respect for the man who is willing to play a guy who has only scored 22 goals in 8 YEARS!
MM OUT!
MOXEY OUT!
TC OUT!
Well I played last night on an astro turf pitch no problem. And I managed to score - I wonder If I’ll be playing on the wing next week.
Seriously this has got to be a bit of an embaressment, sounds like a bit of a cockup. Surely the pitch is checked throughout the day. You have got to feel sorry for the Scunthorpe fans.
Mr Smug…. In reference to your comment, there were other matches played last night, and those matches went off without a hitch. What the main gripe is, is that if there was a malfunction of the undersoil heating and there heaters were not adequate then it sould have been called off sooner. NOT 2 hours before the game is due to start. Look at the bigger picture if it was a midlands team coming to wolves it would not look so bad as the journey time is small but scunny would be a 2 hour trek maybe longer because of any rush hour traffic they may face. So its another PR disaster from wolves. It is typical of this season. Nothing less than shambolic!
I suggest to people who think its just a bit of ice to keep quiet. If u don’t work in the profession of horticulture (i.e groundsman for the stupid ones) then how can you say that. Brush it off dingle dan
how can u brush off a frost lol. Before people say u can’t talk Wolfie happy clapper, I’ll just to let you know i am in the profession so i know exactly how these things work. If u don’t know, find out first then comment. Its like using a word u don’t know the meaning of. Come on lads and ladies. It was unfortunate. UP THE WOLVES !
So basically the central heating system broke down. And all of the clocks, gauges and monitors failed to provide an early warning, that something might not be right. You can’t tell me - that in February - they check the system on the day of the game - now that would be just plain stupid.
How very fitting ..
im glad i only came from ledbury which is a distance, but i feel sorry for the scunny fans most. its a long way to come to be told so late in the day. i know they tried to work extra hard to get the game goin as its in our best interests at the moment but if it was called off at 5.40 yet we didnt hear anythin til gone 6! bad admin wolves!
what a joke this club is
a wasted day booked off work
this is a so called massive club
can someone show me where it is ??
itsno wonder youknow who down the road are laughing at us.
its a shambles
no under soil heating whats going on
Its always the way at your club they tell you nowt treat you like idiots
mr smug now go and clean Mick and Jez car, they seem to do no wrong with idiots like you thats why they try all the crap with the other guys, even lower teams called the games of at a sensible time, they must have known that the syatem had failed at a much more sensilbe time buts thats WW for you, come and get your early birds
26. Mr Iron.. would your undersoil heating in scuuny have cleared the pitch? LOL. I can see the problem from here though, its 70 degrees today and I think its bloody FREEZING, I’ll get me coat.
its a football club and to the tesco fans it is not the electric thats run out.
its a malfunction which can happen to anyone fans are saying it was planned because being a home game with our current form but this could possibly be a coincidence.
dont take the mikey out of wolves when you at sandwell clowns are lowering your ground capacity when on the verge of promotion to the prem. sad or what
Mr Smug,
I travelled from Windsor yesterday, and had arrived in Wolverhampton before any announcement was made. Why travel so early? Rush hour in the South, Rush Hour on the M40, and rush hour in the Black Country, plus I fancied eating before the game.
Had the club posted a warning that there were problems I could have stayed at home.
I am furious with the time and money wasted on this journey when the lub could have posted a warning much earlier than they did.
What a joke our fine club is becoming (and I speak as someone who has never previously knocked MM or JM), but club officials could have worked out that if the ground was frozen at lunch time it wasnt going to thaw by match time. Jokers. Early Bird? I’d be better off with Sky I think.
the club didnt call the game off the ref did and he decided to wait till 5.40 for another pitch inspection.
they did make an announcement… it was on their website that there was to be a pitch inspection.
see articles: Tonight’s Game In Doubt… Further Inspection Planned on wolves.co.uk!!
beacon radio made an announcement (official commentary).. and i believe the E&S also made an announcement As well as this i heard it was in doubt on SKY SPORTS! how can it be the club’s fault if there is some frost??! and surely, if you knew there was bad weather a quick phone call to the club would have saved you a journey.
common sense mate!!
Windsor Wolf - feel your pain something similar happened to me coming from Manchester….took club an age to get messages on the internet following inspection and when I rang club to ask no one ever picked up the jokers
Come on ppl. Chill out
Look, it’s happened now. Can’t you both agree to disagree. Obviously u have different situations where u live etc but u can both be right in your points. It was just unfortunate. Learn for next time. UP THE WOLVES !
The grounds man couldnt even put a shift in for mick! ha ha
I rekon bothroyd probably forgot his gloves so they called the game off!
Song for Paul Ince:-
“Freeze a Jolly Good Fellow”
60.
You live in Windsor ?
Are you Prince Charles ?
I am sure there are some aspects of this club that are working well at the moment but as a supporter they are becoming increasingly hard to spot. Not going well on the field, a number of key backroom staff moving on, now we can’t even get a match on. Nevertheless I am sure our Chief Exec Mr Moxey is doing a wonderful job.
Absolute disgrace! I drove up from Oxford yesterday afternoon, only to hang around Wton to hear if the game was going to be called off - then a pointless and unpleasant journey back. With undersoil heating this should not happen. How typical that a large Wolves investment fails to deliver the goods. Thanks a bunch, Wolves senior management.
The chances of it being a ‘conspiracy’, which is what some of you believe it is is highly unlikely. But what I dont understand is…if Jez says there was no way the game was going to go ahead, why have another pitch inspection at 6?
Will the annnouncers play list at the next game contain some of the following:-
Ice In The Sun - Status Quo
Cold As Ice - Foreigner
Cold Day In Hell - Gary Moore
Cold Cold Heart - Wet Wet Wet
Snow (Hey Ho) -Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Sunny Afternoon - Kinks
Couldn’t resist the last one!
I suppose MM and JM are to blame they get the blame for everything else, can we not get together and rally behind the team for the last 14 games, then look at next year,we know MM not going anywhere because SM has stated this and stupid comments about the last rites and all that jazz is just bunkum, if you dont like pack up going.
Mr Smug, so how does that help someone like me?? I left Dublin well before any announcement was made, was the pitch not frosty throughout the day, would they have not put the under soil heating on throughout!!!!!!
the gripe i have is the club would of known well before the initial announcements were made that thegame MAY of been in doubt! but it was around 3-4pm when we heard the first bit of news regarding this!
Kent Wolf. I dread to see what’s on your I-Pod mate !!!
How about Johnny Cash - Songs of our Soil?
Manc Wolf I admire your loyalty and we need all the support we can get at the moment but don’t you think you’d be better off supporting a local team?
60. Supe Kev, you’re a Sining Wit aren’t you? - no I’m just a teacher living and working in a town with a castle - bit like Dudley really, who happens to have a season ticket for the football club in the town I was born.
61, Mr Smug, I didn’t balme the clb for the frost, but for:
1. Not dealing with it;
2. Not warning Wolves and Scunthorpe fans that there might be an issue - I checked the Wolves site, Express and Star, and BBC (Wolves, travel, and weather pages), before leaving Windsor at 2.30. None mentioned severe weather, or ground inspections. From Banbury on I listened to WM. No mention there either.
3. Have you tried watching Sky TV in the car or at work?
The club are not responsible for the weather or my travelling. However, they could have publicised their worries a lot earlier, and more effectively than they did.
We are supposed to be a big club and we can’t even cope with a small cold spell.
mr smug i think that you are missing the point. No the club cannot be blamed for the weather, but surely listening to the weather forecasters, with such an important game going on the undersoil heating should have been in place for Monday evening. When did one of the clowns at the club know there was a problem? I suggest it should have been tested 24 hours before.
I tell you what it has done? Made it miles harder to get into the play offs. Palace is more or less a must win, followed by Colchester away. If we don’t win Saturday we will be 10 points off more than likely, which is a lot to ask of this ‘inexperienced’ team! Moxey’s words - the back 4 average age at Cardiff was over 31.
Mr Smug! You amaze me! To point out things you have failed to notice:
Wolves have fans that travel from ie: Devon - they would not leave after 4pm
Scunthorpe is not just outside Wolverhampton
Also it has been frosty for days now it is called preparation from a so called professional club - when did the undersoil heating break, when was it noticed & finally why did the heaters only turn up at 3pm.
This is why people say the club is shambles! It is not because the frost is Wolves fault it is called being PREPARED!!
shame mm wil be in charge longer.
do you not see that the REFEREE called the game off…?? scary.
MR SMUG you really are a clown, if people have to travel from places like dublin they have to belive before 3 oclock when there was any mention of the game being called off and it wasnt offically called off til 6 wen i had already started travelling so the club ie mr moxey need to be prepared, the scunthorpe fans had alreadty travelled and i’m sure they could recognise that the pitch was frozen before 3 oclock in the afternoon !!!!!!!!
77 spot on that idiot Smug never been out of Wolvo please tell him some of us do live in other places i was travelling from my barracks in Aldershot when they decided the game was off, had it not been cold all day and it normally gets colder as the day goes by, but then again that idiot creeper smug, does not know that there is human life away from wolvo. now smug go and dig Moxeys garden
there was nothing wrong with the pitch didn t fancy playin in the cold ah bless em lol mick, moxey, connor get em out. MORGAN SORT IT.
Mr Smug or should it be mug?
Yes the referee calls the game off, but it does not rule out the incompetence by people who are paid by the club. As for the person who pays them, our messiah Moxey, does he realise why Wolves are a massive club? Fans come from Devon, London, Wales, Manchester, East Anglia, Dublin, Scandanavia etc. So sort this mess out or get back to Stoke- where you belong.
