In the opening exchanges Wayne Dyer and Mario Pedro made crunching tackles which surprisingly did not merit a caution but in the fifth minute Robert Davies, who was making his home debut, was not so lucky when he received a straight red card for a two footed tackle on Shaun Gray.
New signing Liam McDonald tried his luck from 20 yards sending a shot just over the crossbar.
Prescot’s Eamonn Price was cautioned for a foul in the 33rd minute and from the free kick May headed McDonald’s cross just wide of the post.
Ross Dyer headed another free-kick just over the crossbar as the first half came to an end. A Rory May cross in the first minute of the second half to Wayne Dyer standing at the back post was cut out by a Prescot defender who hooked the ball away.
Prescot finally made the man advantage pay when in the 54th minute Darren Byers beat the offside trap and, with only Ben Scott to bea,t he sent a firmly hit shot into the net, giving the Pitmen keeper no chance.
Byers nearly made it 2-0 when minutes later he was tackled just outside of the box by Ben Scott. With the goal wide open Byers still managed to get a foot to the ball and sent a shot inches wide of the left hand post.
The game turned in the 59th minute when Eamonn Price attempted to handle a cross into the Pitmen net. The referee had little option but show a second yellow.
With both teams down to 10 men the Pitmen levelled in the 67th minute when Rory May back-headed in a Sam Hall long thrown into the far side of the net.
Darren Byers missed a good chance to restore Prescot’ s lead in the 72nd minute but when unmarked he headed wide from inside the six yard box.
After Sam Hall hit a great cross into the box that wasn’t properly cleared.
Wayne Dyer made sure of all three points and the Pitmen’s first double of the season by hitting home a well hit shot in the 88th minute.
