Cardiff City 2 Wolves 0
Wolves were dumped out of the FA Cup on a wretched afternoon in Wales.
They were blasted aside by Cardiff City who scored twice in the opening 10 minutes and never gave their Championship rivals a sniff after that.
The fifth round exit leaves Wolves looking to retrieve their season from a promotion play-off campaign that has also run into difficulties - and there was nothing in their performance today to give supporters any new hope of a major upturn.
Manager Mick McCarthy had to ring the changes because of injury and cup tied players and the changes only added to Wolves’ uncertain form of late.
Cardiff ripped through them inside two minutes when former Villa man Peter Whittingham went racing through to beat Wayne Hennessey easily.
And with Wolves still at sixes and sevens, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink picked out a vintage finish with a left foot cracker that gave Hennessey no chance in the 10th minute.
McCarthy certainly rang the changes in trying to alter the course of the tie. He brought Freddy Eastwood off the substitutes bench after just 40 minutes and used Andy Keogh and Jay Bothroyd in a variety of roles in search of inspiration.
But it wasn’t to be. Wolves barely registered a shot on target worthy of the name and instead needed Hennessey to pull of a string of desperate saves to limit the damage.
Now it’s all eyes on the League starting with a must win visit from Scunthorpe in midweek which Wolves will eye as a chance to get their season back on the front foot.
But there is growing gloom among their supporters, as was illustrated by some of the sarcastic chanting from the travelling 1,200 as their team laboured again today.
There was a brief outburst of trouble amongst the Wolves fans which saw the police wade in midway through the second half.
But it petered out as quickly as it had begun - just like their team.

if we sack mick we are going to miss such wise comments as:
we have turned the corner (after drawing 0-0 with blackpool)
stephen ward is the best player i have signed.
i convinced steve morgan to sign kevin kyle after watching crouch play at liverpool.
eastwood is the final piece of the jigsaw.
keough and elliot are my starting pair up front.
don’t get me wrong i would love wolves to win every game and get promoted but it seems that mick would rather play players out of position or drop them just to prove a point. we are now in the last quater of the season and even mick dosn’t know who his stongest 11 is! he can say we have injuries but even steve morgan commented on the centre of our defence in the first couple of weeks of taking over and said funds would be made avaliable. yet we still have the slowest centre of defence in the championship! this means we play to deep so our midfield is non-existent.if we do push up we get done over the top as proven today!
so all i ask is if mick is still in charge for the rest of the season is to play our best team.
play players in their correct position and loan a centre back with pace. the sorts of things stoke have done this season.
anyway rant over and lets hope tuesday is better for us all. lets get behind the team (they need our help)
Depressing.
Shocking Performance…
But at the end of the day Mick acknowledges it so at least he knows how we feel.
Just shows the difference in class between us at the tesco’s, even though I expected Cov to get back into it, instead of making it easy for them.
We must push on, we will have more players back Tuesday, and it’s a must win.
This will serve as a rude awakening, you can’t get a worse performance than that.
Line up should be:
Hennessey
Elokobi
Craddock
Breen
Foley
Jones
D Edwards
Henry
Elliot
Eastwood
Ebanks-Blake
Subs
Stack
Gray
R.Edwards
Olofinjana
Keogh
Who is coaching this team?Even kids and parks players know not to concede early goals and it’s hardly rocket science, yet it has become a habit at Wolves.Worse still, where was the reaction?
What a crappy day, Ive supported Wolves since 1969 when my old mon took me to my first match. I’ve been through the roller coaster ride over the years since and have witnessed some good times and some bad times but never have I been so disapointed as I am today. Its not the losing so much as the way we lost its justs soul destroying, no cohesion, no passing ability, no creativity, no flair, no shots on goal. I’d rather eat me own testicles than watch the wolves right now lol
IF WE CANT SHAPE A TEAM FROM THE SQUAD WE HAVE GOT THEN THERE IS
SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THE
COACHING AT THIS FOOTBALL CLUB OR
THE SQUAD IS SIMPLY NOT GOOD ENOUGH
EXCUSES ARE BEING SHELLED OUT BY
MANAGEMENT AND PLAYERS ALIKE AND
THIS TEAM IS GOING BACKWARDS FAST
mick uve gota go.a big call out to mr ince get bk to the club tht loves you.
sack him mccarthy he is useless. iv lost my patience with him. we arent gunna get better maybe worse. with him we will end up like leeds. bring in coleman, allardyce or mclaren. mclaren will do rele well with a team like us. but the board must say bye bye mccarthy.
What does freddy have to do to start a game? forewards cannot score goals if they have to keep defending.Am i right in thinking we started to slide at about the same time as Taff went upstairs?Terry Conner has seen a couple of managers off and the way things are going MM will be next.Lets clear the backroom boys out while we still have a chance.
lol, what more should we expect from this team made up of strikers
lets look at the only positive thing thats come out of this game MM has has said it was a terrible performance and being the worst. I could have said that about most of the games weve played over the last 4 months. Either sort it out or go! Lets be honest, i looked at the table last week and we are closer to the bottom than the top.We will we lucky to finish in the top half this season. Its not that, he has had a pot of money to spend and i cant see what benifit it has brought to us. We were much better off last season with no funds to squander. Maybe should of bought a defence rather than 3 teams of strikers who cant score for toffee..
As soon as I saw that the frontline included Kyle and Bothroyd I was looking for a bookmaker to bet on Wolves not scoring.
Heaven knows why these players get picked ahead of Eastwood but in the same way as when falling out with Roy Keane showed McCarthy is a man that is prepared to bite off his own nose to spite his face rather than back down, so his downer on Eastwood could cost him his role at Wolves.
At the other end of the field its a sign how little we have steengthened our defence in the last two years that we were desperate to see Breen and Craddock back in the team even though Breeny’s legs went a year ago.
In his first season MM did great to develop Wolves from a poor team to a play off team. Now I am afraid we look as bad as we feared we would be 18 months ago.
come on mr morgan do us all a favour, i hear your meeting on monday morning!
mm out now
Mr Morgan, where are you? What the hell is happening? Early Bird, my arse.
IT’S OUR FAULT, BLAME THE FANS!!!!!
You heard it here first:
Mr Morgan witnessed this humiliation of the once great WWFC.
He will not allow this gross mismanagement of the club to continue. There are free-loaders living of sub-standard results throughout the whole club structure.
A new manager will be appointed shortly, along with a CEO who has the vision to take this club up into the Premiership, and keep it there on a long-term basis.
Remember where you heard it first!
i dont like to see sackings of mangers but its time for mick to go hes lost the plot!!
Oh dear, me babbies lost - again.
Maybe Wolves should approach Cardiff. Their manager, Dave Jones, looks like quite a good manager to me. It could be quite good for Wolves to think of having him as manager. He might even get us to the Premiership!
What? We did that already? Oh. What we get rid of him for, then?
Oh Dear. I’ve just found an appropriate song for you Mr McArthy, its by Andrea Batticelli and Sarah Brightman, The title is “Time to say Goodbye”. What manager in his right mind relishes Gary Breen coming back, playing Lurch instead of Freddie? The list of his madness goes on. Just imagine what this muppett would do if by some mischance we maid it to the premier. Get Big Sam in now, he is a Wolves fan through and through and is quite a good manager as well. I will always support this great club of ours but we are being left behind by the Tesco’s and it makes me weep with frustration.
Went today wat a total waste of money. we were terrible we cheered like we had scored a goal wen we managed to have a shot thats how bad we were. i cant see mcarthy pulling us back on winning ways like we should be i hope im wrong but i cant see it. Kyle is the biggest donkey on the pitch. the team aye fit to wear a wolves shirt!!!!
You bought these players to the club.
You pick them.
You take resposibilty.
YOU must GO!
MM - u r the weakest link. goodbye.
crap defence no midfield no real strikers freddy apart season over best thing i did was not renewing my season ticket this year first time for thirty years wont go again till MM has gone
Not rocket science this….
MCCARTHY OUT !!!
Where the hell is Steve Morgan? Hiw can he sit back and watch this abject rubbish week in week out. The passion and fire of last season has gone, we are left with one trick pony Mick and its like peddling backwards. Get rid.
Half the trouble was that our support was nullified by the partial ban imposed by South Wales Police.
And the lesson of all this is for Jez Moxey to learn.
Totally ban away supporters as he did Cardiff’s and it rebounds on you.
Even Cardiff police then take sides to even things up.
I’ve Watched the Wolves since the Glory Days of the 50s, and we have alwyas been a club noted for our hospitality. Jez needlessly upped the ante here, and it rebounded on him bigtime.
The future? Stop vindictive bans on Cardiff fans - how is it that 2000 can go to The Hawthorns without one arrest? - and you will find that GOOD KARMA will result for the Wolves.
I Cant believe he acctually brought eastwood on !! problem is there was no creativity in the side .. there was only 1 player on the whole of our team that could beat players and that was freddy !! why dont you give the youngsters a chance mick like davies and glesson !! look at cardiff’s 17 YEAR OLD RAMSEY yesterday he run the show and we have got players that can do that and better like davies and glesson !! i hope this is a wake up call !! If there good enough there old enough .. give them a bloody chance !! MICK OUT !! PATHETIC
Eastwood..Greaves..Berbatov!! Look back at jimmy greaves for tottenham , he was lazy but how many goals did he bang in for them !! 400+ !! Look at berbatov he lookz lazy but its hiz style of play and when he gets the ball he uses it and creates play and makes his own goals .. just like freddy use to !! Its just Freddy’s style off play !! Give Him A Run Of 6-8 Games !! Let him play his own game and Use him to his abilities and it will pay off !!
the result says it all, toohless as usual no idea he has to go.
rgds tpd
Don’t worry we will probably scrape a win against Scunthorpe and all the idiots will be back, telling us we can make the play offs and telling us what disloyal idiots we are to dare criticise the great MM and the club don’t need us. This is a long term building strategy that us morons don’t understand etc etc. During the dark days of the Bhatti’s it was circumstances beyond our control but this is self destruct !!
Never in the game. What a waste of money. No effort, no passion, just a total waste of a day.
Don’t think I’ll be buying a season ticket next year, not to watch the rubbish we are being dished up with.
Never seen a Wolves team so inept. What is going on at this club?
At last MM has taken his rose tinted glasses off and seen how dreadful the team are playing. Its been pitiful all season.
HOWEVER DON’T FORGET YOU PICK THE TEAM, EMPOLOY THE COACHING STAFF AND BUY THE PLAYERS. SO THE BUCK STOPS WITH YOU.
The biggest problem you are playing players out of position, players who are not as good as ones you refuse to acknowledge are at the club (Gleeson, Rosa, Davies).
All the Sunderland cast offs are favoured by you and why buy a player Eastwood and treat him the way you have, you are arrogant to the extream.
So unfortunatly you should now resign and take the rest of the staff with you. Mr Morgan please save us before we are relegated, PEARSON as Manager with BULLY AS HIS ASSISTANT.
WE NEED A CHANGE MORGAN.
“Rubbish”
sack mccarthy because he has lost the plot totaly and the fans should do what shefield fans done to robson chant for him to go out side the stadium entrance where he enters and exits.
We said it all on the terraces the players were not fit to wear the shirts. McCarthy agrees so should take responsibility along with Connor and the rest of the back room staff. To have to put up with the travel arrangements the hostility of the cardiff police and then watch that dross week in week outis more than amyone can stand. MICK THE FAT LADY HAS SUNG ALONG WITH 1000 LOYAL SUPPORTERS AT CARDIFF. GO NOW YOU REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING
now what? get 10 points to make sure we dont get relegated .we are s*** .
McCarthy,You are making Wolves the laughing stcok of the Fizzy Pop league.
Go now & take Moxey & Connor with you.
Sort it out please Mr Morgan!
Awful for the traveling fans after all mick classed this has the blue ribbon event, the fans expected the team to do well but what did the fans get!! yes more of a bluebird stuffing it really is pathetic.
What a shambles.
However, MM cannot do anything about the guys not being able to pass, defend or attack.
1. Maybe losing Jarvis did not help as it left us with no pace.
2. Keogh does not do well on the wing so why was Elliot not on.
3. Keogh failing to pass when he had the chance led to them scoring early.
4. Kyle did what he is there for but had no one around him to pick up the ball.
5. Eastwood shone because everyone else was PANTS (Hennesey excluded)(verdict still out on Eastwood as he failed to chase balls he lost)
6. Maybe it was to early to put Breen and Craddock together after such long lay offs.
7. Were out of the cup I dont think we were ever going to win it so back behind the boys on Tueday and lets push for that 6th spot.
As for the calls for MM head I think we should start with the fitness coach and Connor as we arent as fit as last year and by god we dont have a clue on the pitch.
As a constant and fierce critic of MM, I have to bow to his cunning.
This week’s bumbling display from a team of players out of position, demoralised and lacking any sense of direction might be ascribed to continuing and ever-worsening managerial incompetence but was actually a clever and deliberate wheeze to get knocked out of the cup so that we can concentrate on the League….and the fight against relegation!
After the sense of expectation at the start, this has been the most disappointing season in living memory!
If Freddy goes to crystal palace .. as i have just read in the news of the world .. i will not be having a season ticket next season simple as !!
GIVE M.M.A SHEEPDOG HE,S LOST HIS WAY,CLUELESS.
I think on tuesday night against scunthorpe we are going to have a record low attendance, because who will turn out to watch that, expect around 19,000 there, which is low for a club as big as us. Mick said, “if we had more subs i’d have took the lot off”. Well then Mick be a man of your word and ring the changes, Danny Jones in and Freddy in, instead of playing your mates, the entire season has been a disgrace!
I went yesterday and it was a strange game. Wolves were tidy enough in patches, keeping control and passing well but ineffective in the centre of defence and particularly in the last third. Cardiff looked disorganised in the centre of midfield but got players behind the ball and made the right decisive passes up front. Hassalbank’s goal was a superb strike but he shouldn’t have been given the room to turn and shoot. I don’t wish to be negative but Kyle looks flimsy and lacking in basic skill. His failure to look up and pass when through the defence cost us an obvious goal. Eastwood looked purposeful and seemed the only one with the nous to start and end a move. The ball was passed around a lot but no body ran into space. I didn’t support MM coming to Wolves but now he is here I don’t think there is anything to be gained by firing him. It has got us nowhere in the past. The midfield desperately lacked Edwards. The squad is large but the talent thin.
Shocking season. Just about everything that has been tried has gone wrong and it is getting worse, much worse. This cannot be allowed to continue, we have pride, we have heart, we are WOLVES. Somebody must be held to be accountable for this debacle of a season, and the time is NOW while there is still some hope in the league to restore some pride and who knows even….. no I can’t even say it!
One thing for sure is that MM will not have a clue which team to put out
on the pitch Tuesday night. His selection system is totally bazaar. I just
hope he gives Daniel Jones a fair chance, dont bring him back from his
loan spell then ignore him. I feel he will, thus destroying the confidence
of a real talent. Its time he cleared out his old mates and give the young
blood a chance like last season
MM seems paralised by fear & loyalty, going nowhere this season, give Freddy 8 games with SEB, and tell him to make it work, if not then ship him out, BUT YOU HAVE TO GIVE HIM A RUN to try to reclaim his place, our defence has to be the slowest in the division, bring in some of the younger, hungrier players
Never felt so compelled to vent my fury at a totally toothless display.
Treated liek cattle before and after the game…
Within 2 minutes we have the stuffing knocked out of us as Keough loses in attack,a deft flick from Hasslebank ,and we find we have pushed so far up that Peter Whittingham is left all on his own………….
Then on 11 minutes, again we give away cheap possession,JFH picks the ball up ans scores a great goal…
For the next 79 minutes never did we look like scoring,no creativity,no flair,no heart,no bottle, and Hennessy saved us on at least 3 occasions when he was left 1 on 1.
Did anyone tell Mick that the semi`s are at Wembley. We will never get a better chance of being in the last 4.I bet you the Tesco lot will be there, and will probably treat their fans to another free coach trip!
Mick your time is up,you cannot inspire a team and your tactics are bizarre.Kyle on his own as a lone striker to start the game ??? I thought you brought him as a player who could come on and change the game ???
Ince would be the choice, but he won`t come as long as Moxey is there
Do you really think we can tempt big Sam ???
.. anticipated performance from a middle of the league team. The team doesn’t have the quality winning players in any position.
Having a poor confused manager and a penny pinching management, this is about all we are going to get guys!
If the baggies go up, then I may be tempted after 50 years being a season ticket holder to break rank and go watch some good football next season…
I fear MM will be getting a phone call tomorrow after a Board Meeting and Paul Ince will be the new Manager by the weekend.
Hurry up and get those early birds in folks, Same garbage next year, Kevin Kyle to sign for 1.5 million, ho happy day.
well mr morgan if u are the ruthless buisnessman we think u are u need to act now and sack MM before its to late and take terry conner with him. since taff evans stopped coachin total shambles tc has seen off five managers how. us wolves fans are wondering
people say give the manager time.he has signed about 24 players in 18 monthes . he signed eastwood for 1.5 million and dont play him.i went to cardiff and it was so depressing it was untrue,we are sick to the back teeth of excuses it is time for a change get alladyce in before it is too late.
Johnwolf, you have changed your tune!!
Mick please give Freedy a chance he may save your job ????
not havin season ticket this year no chance waste of money and then the club treats us like fools knowing we love the club and will always come back there are alot of changes need to be made watchin the cardiff match its hard just to say change 2 or 3 things and it will be ok because they all look like weak players apart from fready. last season was best football ive seen at wolves and i knew we would all get disapointed this year money needs too be spent and the players need hearts brought for them because saturday they had no heart they didnt want to b there.
We should have sacked him in before christmas and brought Incey in to utilise the Jan transfer window. MM has to go with Clipboard and the rest of his useless backroom staff. But who do we replace him with. I don’t care Mickey Mouse would do a better job. No way will I renew whilst MM is still wrecking our great Footbal Club.
Please Mr Morgan sack him NOW.
Mr. Morgan you better be careful because soon this shambles will soon be blamed on you. MM needs your help, he is too arrogant to fire himself. just do it. Sam or Ince but do it now.
I thought we did alright.
Yes it could have been a better result but we are still only a few points off the playoffs and we were never going to win the cup any way.
What this team needs is more support from you lot.
luv Mick
me again…..time 4 u 2 go mm….u and your tactics r a joke…if u want 2 read about mm..have a read of roy keanes auto….all mm,s tactics r is running….oh and havin his favourites…ie..kyle,elliot,gray etc….speak out and u have had it….sorry freddy,thats u sorted then m8…..get big sam,coleman or ince in…managers with bottle,not favourites,cos if we dont make it this season,hennersey,kites,eastwood,keogh will b gone……KEEP THE FAITH
Mick McCarthy has got more chance of being Knighted for services to football than performing the miricle of getting Wolves into the Premiership and i stress miricle. If that miricle did occur do we really want to be humiliated by coming straight back down with a record that would suggest that Derby have had a great season. If Wolves did go up the manager would keep his job as a reward and would only be sacked halfway through the season when it is to late for anyone else to fix it. As a loyal Wolves fan for 40 years i would prefer if Wolves went up in style and looked as if they could stay up which certainly is not the case at present.
rumour monger i hope to god u r rite at cardiff the sprite of the time has gone we have no soul please mr morgan act now 4 the love of the wolves and the beast fans in the world my brother and sister fans
i hope 2 god u r rite rumour mongerat cardiff we had no pride in the shirts no team sprit act now mr morgan 4 the best fans in the world my brother and sister fans
get rid of conner - i have never seen such basic errors in wolves perforamnces and that has to be down to coaching. Big mistake letting Evans go to Bolton he should be first team coach here - look at the acadamy team and performances all down to the coaching.
Get Taff back ASAP
someone is using my name in vain-post 36, I did not say that, someone is trying to start up some trouble- whoever it is get your own name.
