The fifth round of the HanKat league on the Birmingham Main Line canal at Ettingshall produced some very good catch weights and the top scorer Ian Moulton tipped an impressive 20-5-0 on the scales.
A member of the Drennan North West team he drew the next peg to the one where he weighed in an even better 21lb bag in the previous encounter.
Situated behind the Delta factory it is well sheltered and a haunt for bream and roach. Using bloodworm and joker feed and hookbait he attracted around 10lbs of skimmer bream to 1lb 8oz plus several quality roach to 1lb.

Top team on the day, Drennan North West Gold scored 10 penalty points over Fox Match Tipton 11, Brosettes 12, Maver Midlands 13 and Shakespeare Superteam 14.

A gin clear Merry Hill canal limited catches in the eighth round of the Woodside League and Gary Ward won comfortably with a modest 4-10-0.
The Cradley Heath Labour team member drew peg number 57, where he relied on caster and worms offered well across the far side. He managed to attract mostly small roach plus a few perch and skimmer bream.
His team colleague Steve Robson was second with 3-12-4 from peg 94 at the bottom end. Dave Shaw (Exclusives) was next with 3-5-0.
Current league standings: Dave Sheaf 14 points, Ken Clarke 17, Steve Robson and Ben Garbett (Royal Mail) both 19.
The fifth round of the Stafford Individual League was held along the Gnosall sections of the Shropshire Union Canal where unstoppable veteran Fred Cheetham added another victory to his amazing record.
The Eclipse team man was pegged opposite the moored boats near the Boat pub where he used his favourite punched bread to hook fifty or more small roach together weighing 6-12-2.
Wolverhampton’s Dave McCall (Shakespeare) was second with 6-8-2 from the next peg by the bridge and he used similar tactics for 6-8-2, again mostly roach. Third man Tony Keeling (Eclipse) relied on both punched bread and casters to put together his 6-7-6.
League standings: Fred Cheetham 7pts, Tony Keeling 13, Keith Hulland 14 and John Egerton both 14.
Fish in Walsall Arboretum’s Hatherton Lake are lying as much as 40 feet deep in the area between the boathouse and the bandstand and it was peg number 26 on the right hand side of the bandstand where local lad Gary Beesley managed to find a shoal of bream.
Using a large swimfeeder full of sweetcorn pellets he managed to attract four similar sized bream for a clear 9-14-0 victory. Ron Jackson from Leamore was second from peg 12 with 5-2-0. Stuart Bagnall (S Jones) was third with 5-1-0.
Catches were very poor in the Stirrup Cup A C’s latest open match on the Birmingham Fazeley canal at Curdworth where Long Eaton Federation’s Harold Totton clinched top place with a very modest 3-3-5.
Fox Tipton team man Stan Ward was second with 3-1-0 while Wolverhampton star and Shakespeare team stalwart Paul Ross clinched third place with 2-9-0.
Organiser Colin Gregg won a hard open contest on the Birmingham canal at Winson Green with a very poor 4-2-0 top catch.
Frost did the damage and he had to be satisfied with one or two roach to eight ounces plus one small bream weighing 12oz.
Mike Swain (Circle) was second with 2-14-4. Mal Galliers (Cornerstone) 2-14-0 and Dave Angel (West Bromwich) 2-12-0 made up the top four weights.
