dudley-sports-f-c.jpg Dudley Sports picked up all three points on Saturday when they entertained forth placed Shawbury at Hillcrest Avenue.

Shawbury started the day one place and two points behind Sports in fourth place.

Sports welcomed back to the side Lee Lough who was making his first appearance in a green shirt after being out injured since boxing day.

It was Lough who took the game to Shawbury from the start, slipping through a fine ball for Ross Harris to take in his stride but his shot finished the wrong side of the post for Sports.

Shawbury are a quality side and opened the scoring when a mistake inside the Sports penalty area lead to Shawbury’s centre forward tapping home from close range.

This game was now becoming a cracker with both sides going at each other at pace and it was after another Sports attack down the right by Chris Raybone they manage to level the scores.

The goal came from a long throw in from Matt Taylor, Grant Joshua headed the ball back towards goal and Lee Lough bicycle kicked the ball home from six yards.

The first half came to an end with both sides playing some excellent fast flowing football on a difficult surface.

The second half was to be even better than the first with both sides giving it there all.

It was to be Sports who went in front though when a routine clearance from a Shawbury defender leads to Lee Lough volleying the ball back and into the top corner of the net from fully twenty-five yards, this was a memorable strike in the 60th minute.

Shawbury never give up though and equalised minutes later when a thru ball saw Sports defender John Willets making a rash challenge inside the box this lead to a penalty that was slotted home with ease.

The game was won for Sports when they won a throw in deep inside the Shawbury half in the eightieth minute, the resulting throw in from Matt Taylor saw Ross Harris compete well in the air and the ball ended up in the net after hitting a Shawbury defender.

Sports came under pressure until the end but defended well to see the game out.

This was a great game of football played in the right manner and a credit to the WMRL.
