Free ride for Baggies fans

Thousands of Baggies fans left The Hawthorns on free coaches this morning to head for their team’s clash with Barnsley.

Supporters packed on to 40 coaches laid on by the club to take them up to Oakwell for the Championship game.

The coaches were staggered as they left West Bromwich after instructions from police in Barnsley to help control crowds.

Among fans setting off for the match was season ticket holder Julie Burford.

The 51-year-old from Tipton said: “It’s a good day out and the atmosphere is brilliant. What more could you ask than to travel with a bunch of Baggies fans?

“Because you know there are a lot of you, you can make a lot of noise and support the lads.” Mark Healey, a 45-year-old engineer from Halesowen, said he enjoyed travelling with the other fans as old football games were shown on the coaches’ televisions. It’s going to be a logistical nightmare getting 40 coaches up there but people have a lot of fun,” he added.

Gordon Deen, aged 48, of Smethwick, said: “I think the atmosphere away is better than at home.”

Wat’s the use of free coaches and taking 4000 loyal supporters, when the baggies put in a one of the worst performances of the season.Even the manager apolagized on TV for the very poor performance, the away record is the worst of allthe top teams,we cannot lose more than 8 matches and hope to win the league we shall have to start winning away or there will be no trips to china or the USA
