Villa blog: Crazy ideas

villacrest1.jpgWell Villa fans, I guess we’d better all get down to Villa Park fast, writes Villa blogger Gregg Williams.

With the Premier League intent on boosting the game’s ‘global profile’ all matches will shortly be played on the moon to increase TV ratings.

Ok maybe not the moon but if it’s Australia or Malaysia that’s on the agenda then it might as well be as far as the average fan is concerned.

Where would the league be without domestic supporters? Absolutely nowhere. Empty grounds, no merchandise, no sport.

At the moment the idea of playing domestic league games abroad is only being explored as a possibility.

But even so, the fact that this would even be considered suggests that those in power are intent on selling the soul of English football to the highest bidder.

For now it seems we’ll just have to wait and see what happens, and enjoy being able to get to a game without the use of a long range passenger jet aircraft, starting with Newcastle tomorrow.

Another ridiculous kick off time to contend with, but at least it’s not 4am for a game staged in Los Angeles.

I’m glad i’ll be at the ground because I have a feeling that the TV pundits and commentators will be desperate to see Kevin Keegan get his first win as second-time Newcastle manager.

We simply cannot let this happen, and hopefully the players ears will still be ringing from Martin O’Neill’s post match press conference last weekend.

We have to be up for this one and if we’re going to qualify for Europe we need to win all our remaining home games to be certain of doing it.

I was glad to hear that Nathan Delfouneso has signed a new contract.

I admit I don’t make it to many reserve games but apparently this kid is potentially a class act, and having seen how Gabby Agbonlahor has improved his game under O’Neill, we can only hope for similar results with other potential stars coming through.

Our youth team is once again a credit to its experienced coaches and with any luck we will pick up the youth cup trophy again this year.

They need to find us a right back though, because at the rate we’re going we might never sign one.

O’Neill warns Villa fans: Get ready for a hot summer (were we told this before January)? Forgive me for not creaming my pants and getting all excited again only to be let down again, probabaly becasue all the players we were linked to in January will probably be snapped up by Manure. ARS or chelski, they have probably already lined the players up by speaking to them on the QT unlike us.
