The joys of Mummy Mornings

Mummy Mornings at Merry HillAfter spending an hour-and-a-half with more than 100 babies and toddlers you’d expect the grown ups to walk away with a slight headache.

But the screams and shrieks from the little ones were only those of excitement when Merry Hill shopping centre launched its new Mummy Mornings.

It was fun and games all the way for the little nippers while those even smaller either snoozed, smiled or gurgled as they joined their parents for the new venture which kicked off this week at the Black Country complex.

Mummy Mornings was set up with the aim of giving mothers, fathers and their babies the opportunity to meet other parents and little ones.

Department store Debenhams is hosting the fortnightly and free get-togethers in its restaurant, which was packed out with 120 parents and their children for the official launch.

While the little ones were playing with the many toys on offer, the mothers were chatting away to each other in what looks set to be a popular ’social club’ for both parent and child.

The get-togethers are also informative with a midwife on hand to offer advice on breastfeeding, baby weaning and pretty much all things baby.

Claire Bould, 31, of Willenhall, enjoyed the morning with her one-year-old daughter Grace.

“I think it’s a good opportunity for Grace to play with other children and it also gives me a chance to chat to other mothers,” she said.

“I usually come to Merry Hill once a week so I think it’s a good idea to hold these mornings as it’s a great way to keep the little ones entertained.”

Sarah Foley of Brierley Hill spends a lot of time in Merry Hill as she is a part-time sales assistant in the centre but plans to spend even more time there with her 10-month-old son Harry. “The sessions are free which is great and I’m sure we’ll be returning every fortnight,” the 20-year-old said.

Midwife Debra Foster was kept busy chatting about baby concerns.

* Mummy Mornings is held every other Tuesday in Debenhams restaurant at 10am-11.30am. The next session will take place on February 19.
