Ricketts still on Money list

wd2470725walsall-v-shrewsb.jpgWalsall manager Richard Money is still in the hunt to sign Michael Ricketts.

The striker is a free agent after his contract at Oldham was cancelled and Money revealed today that he is still interested in signing him, but is waiting for his Achilles injury to clear up before making any move.

“The situation is the same with Michael Ricketts and the situation is that he is still injured,” Money said. “Until he’s injury free, we, like any other football club, will probably not be prepared to commit.

“It doesn’t mean to say that we’ve ruled it out because we haven’t.

“I’ve gone on record as to what I think about Michael Ricketts – I don’t think that needs to be said anymore and let’s hope that it can be resolved quickly.

“Anyone could sign him – the rules and regulations regarding transfers now are so complicated, it’s incredible, but he is an attractive proposition because he is a loan.

“He doesn’t have a club, so anyone could sign him after the transfer window.”

Leave the player to rot as far as I am concerned. He was a trouble-maker when he played at 18 years, and he hasn’t learnt a thing from his experience at top flight ! Both Ricketts and his agent haven’t done a decent days work in their lives, and I’d smile with joy if NO other club signed him because of his greed and awkwardness. Money, look elsewhere.

that is a little harsh, he dont work that hard but hes got a decent amount of goals during his loan period. He is better than any loan player we are likely to bring in

Are you soft Hawkins? Have you seen the quality in his play during his loan spell? At times he was too intelligent for some of our players, I’d love to see how someone of Holmes’ ability would link up with him to provide ammunition.

In my view, injured or not, we should consider signing him now and offering him a pay as you play deal till the end of the season with the option of a 2 year deal if he proves his fitness.

It’d be galling to lose him to someone else for the sake of a few quid, when we’ve just banked a fortune from Dann & Fox. We don’t have to give him a 2 1/2 year deal now, just a tempter now with the option of something.

I can only assume that Hawkins1331 doesn’t go to games, otherwise he’d know just how valuable Ricketts’s contribution has been while he has been on loan. Clever, superb movement and Division 2 defenders are completely bamboozled by him.

I didn’t want Ricketts back when he cam on loan but now I have changed my mind. He was a totally different player to the one that left us all those years back. Open your eyes, Hawkins1331, and see what is really happening, rather than what you think is happening.

Sign Him Up Now Before we are dealt the usual sucker punch that Walsall FANS (not bonser or walley) receive every time we have somebody decent.

Gareth Ainsworth, Junior, Julian Joachim - the list is endless.

If DD knows something he is not telling us re: the injury then fair enough but the last thing we need is a non-training ricketts needing games to get match fit on the run in.

To repeat myself on an earlier debate on this topic, Ricketts is lazy, slow, can’t tackle and is useless in the air. However, he does possess a very good brain, has wonderful positional awareness and, on occasions, shows why we’ve earnt so much in add_ons from him. Sign him up.

umm>>>> I am anothernoe who has changed his opinion on Ricketts (sorry Hawkins, but you obviously haven’t been watching). When Michael returned I was doubtful he could be any different to the lumbering donkey he was back in the nineties, but he has worked hard, gained a football brain and at this level can do a job for us.

Would love to see him and Tommy up front with Betsy and Holmes on the wings….maybe that can happen before season close?

Let’s move on from the Dann saga, accept that we got some money, may get some more and focus on pushing this club back to the Championship!

    UP THE REDS !!!

Hang on a minute people! Hawkins isnt saying he isnt a better proposition than we are likely to get otherwise! He IS the player we need to help achieve promotion, and he IS a better player than we had before….BUT, the truth is there.

Hawkins is exactly right about the situation. We, as a club, have actively tried to sign Ricketts since his release from Oldham, but both he and his agent are holding out for a “better” deal, which hopefully wont come. He is indeed a very greedy person, with no loyalty whatsoever,
