New England manager Fabio Capello notched a 2-1 friendly win over Switzerland in his first game in charge.
The new boss heard his players booed by the crowd for a short time for their conservative play but eventually saw his reign get off to a winning start against the Euro 2008 co-hosts at Wembley on Wednesday night.
Playing in a 4-5-1 formation, England started slowly but took the lead when Joe Cole skipped down the left and crossed for Jermaine Jenas to open the scoring.
Switzerland levelled when Eren Derdiyok fired past David James, but Steven Gerrard set up Shaun Wright-Phillips to score from close range on 62 minutes.
With David Beckham not in the squad and Michael Owen confined to the bench, only a handful of the key players under Steve McClaren remained.
Matthew Upson, Jenas and Wes Brown all started, while David Bentley took Beckham’s role on the right.
Send us your views on the England performance? Did you witness a new dawn? Or was it a repeat of the type of performance seen under McClaren?

what a result we beat switzerlands kids. england team is never going to win anything but my home country of germany will
we would have won by more if ish had been playing instead of rooney and greening in midfield instead of gerrard boing boing
Well after the 1st 20 minutes in which we could’nt pass water, I think we did quite well, we kept the ball and probed & created chances, without really looking threatened ourselves. Their goal was a good goal and i would not blame anyone for it.
I believe Capello will turn us into an hard team to beat, based on keeping possession for long spells in the game thus not allowing the opposition to really penetrate us, this may take away from the way we normally expect to see English football played, but for me if it brings results and makes us challengers for championships I certainly be backing them.
It does look like the passing game is the way to go now, obviously Capello has loooked up to certain role-models in the current game……Tony Mowbray by any chance.
Last night watching England,I kept flicking over to Sky to watch Merlins team play against Brazil.Everytime I flicked over ,all you could here was the Brazilian fans singing…”Its just like watching West Brom, its just like watching West Brom”
Havin paid £42 for a freindly, £10 travel and £10 for food, the most exciting part of the game was the tube ride. We had no width no plans, players often looked around wondering what to do. Brown looked liek a pub player! A Cole was not much better!. Oh and if anyone can name a team (other than greece who played it now and then in Euro) who has won anything playing 4-5-1? (4-4-1-1)! rubbish waste of money!
I thought the booing was a disgrace. England dont deserve to win nothing if they have numptys as fans. Why chant David Beckham’s name??? He is finished as a footballer. END OF!
Drop A.Cole-Bring in Paul Robinson!
You can always rely on Terrywalsallfool to come in with the sensible comments, muppet
6 - You should know what booing sounds like you do it at your place often enough. To be honest was not impressed at all only time will tell, however i like the new manager. England need someone to knock all these premadonnas into shape. We really need 2 up front Owen and Crouch with Rooney coming from midfield.
nathan 8 if you dont stop calling me names i wont get you a ticket next season to come n watch us in the prem boing boing
So with regards to the booing - Has the Daily Mail done a survey to check if they were Wolves fans yet?
THE THING IS, IT’S A BRAND NEW ERA AND YOU CANNOT EXPECT THE TEAM TO GEL STRAIGHT AWAY. WHAT I LIKE ABOUT CAPELLO, THAT HE DOESNT CARE WHAT THE MEDIA OR FANS SAY. HE JUST DOES HIS JOB TO THE BEST OF HIS ABILITY, AND HE AS A FINE TRACK RECORD TO PROVE IT. IF HE CANT WIN ANYTHING WITH ENGLAND, THAN NO ONE CAN
I must admit i watched the game and thought how thoroughly boring it was, i really do think we are being spoilt this season at the Hawthorns!!!
Even when we lose you leave the games feeling like you have been entertained.
Increasingly over the past few years i feel less and less affection towards our national team, and although i wish them well, when they fail it does not bother anywhere near as much as witnessing the Baggies losing.
Capello has only had a few days with the England players and it is going to take some time to get them to do things his way. I am sure they are shell shocked not having been pampered at this gathering, but they will have to come to terms with it. I like the way that Capello has started but it will take time.
It was a nothing game. We win nothing lost nothing gained, we lose everyone will be saying he is not the man for the job!!! it’s job done, move on to September for the World cup qualifiers!!!

Have you read the Wolves pages recently, some very fickle morons there.
Apologies for the above to the decent posters, but it riles you sometimes when you get idiots come on here with idiotic comments.
I love the comment by Conna
“i hate Albion but i hate Albion fan more” then quantifies this with
“absolute morons”
I would say after reading this utterly childish diatribe, moron is
a condition in which he/she patently resides.
You Baggies fans make me laugh, spoilt at The Hawthorns, HA HA HA! Your in division one mate, playing against Plymouth, Scunthorpe, Colchester and Blackpool, etc.
Get down to Villa park and watch top flight football before you comment on it! Oh sorry I forgot you all the tickets have sold out.
20) MORON is also a small town in CUBA! Where I will be on Sunday, and two weeks rest from some of the deluded comments made by some so called football supporters on here, Both Wolves & Albion,Football IS a mans game and can certainly do without some of the infantile remarks being made, LIVE FOOTBALL, BREATH FOOTBALL, most of all LOVE IT!!
