Hendesford boss’s job on line

pitmen.jpgHednesford boss Phil Starbuck has been told his job is on the line if results don’t improve.

Starbuck met managing director Terry Brumpton for talks after last Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Frickley, and the manager has been warned results must improve.

After the game, the Pitmen boss allowed assistant boss Mark Patterson and players Chris White and David Eyres had left.

But Brumpton insists their departures were entirely down to Starbuck and he has a “reasonable” budget.

“It’s not the budget that causes you to lose 4-0 at Frickley,” said Brumpton.

“I’m not such a big-time Charlie that we go to places such as Frickley and expect to win.

“What I do expect from our own team is to turn up, provide a match to the opposition and give 100 per cent commitment for the whole 90 minutes.

“When that doesn’t happen, that annoys me and on Saturday, I was annoyed because the performance wasn’t good enough.

“We got out-fought by a team who wanted to win the game more than we did and that’s not acceptable to me or the club.

“I had a long chat with the manager on Sunday and Monday and he’s an intelligent person and he knows football is a results-orientated business and he’s been told that in no uncertain terms that results have to improve.

“But I don’t want to take that performance at Frickley and neither does Phil. After the game I was upset and annoyed and so was Phil.

“He knows results and performances like that aren’t good enough.”

Brumpton added: “ I hope he can turn it around. He’s had a good week with the players in training and is still capable of turning it around.”

Hednesford are set to sign two central defenders on non-contract terms today in time for tomorrow’s trip to Lincoln United to cover Paul Robinson, who is out for five to six weeks with damaged medial knee ligaments.

Ben Brown, who has bruised toes, could play.

Brumpton insisted the money from the departed trio is available.

“Phil has the money from the players and Mark – he’s looking to strengthen.”

Patterson’s departure means Starbuck is searching for his fourth assistant manager since he was appointed in May 2006.

He arrived with John Ramshaw, who left to manage tomorrow’s opponents, then Jimmy Mullen went to Walsall.

Great to get some detailed and accurate information about Hednesford Town, as opposed to the ‘Pravda’-style forum on the official website, where anyone asking an innocent question is insulted and told to stop wasting their time.
