More to come from Albion ace

Roman BednarTony Mowbray believes goal hero Roman Bednar is only beginning to tap his potential as the Baggies march towards promotion continues.

The man who is even out-scoring Kevin Phillips hit the winner against Burnley on Saturday to make it 12 goals from as many matches as Albion put three points of daylight between themselves and the chasing pack.

The Championship leaders remain on course to score 100 League goals alone with Bednar assuming an increasingly important role which Mowbray believes represents the tip of the iceberg of his potential.

“There’s a lot of parts of his game he has got to improve upon if he’s going to be a top Premiership player,” says Mowbray.

“And that’s where we want to go with him.

“I’m sure he has got a wry grin on his face each time the ball goes in the back of the net and his manager is still moaning at him.

“But he just wants to learn and get better and that is the type of player we want here.

“Roman is a typical centre-forward. He is big, strong, fast and brave. He scores goals and he has a great humility about his personality.

“He has no edges to him and he doesn’t think he is better than he is, he just gets on with his game and that is a great quality for a player to have to not realise how good they are sometimes.”

And Mowbray confirmed that a deal with Hearts is in place which will kick-in at the end of this season to turn Bednar’s loan transfer into a permanent one.

Bednar’s prolific strike rate gives Albion an embarrassment of riches as they celebrate the permanent signing of Ishmael Miller, whose partnership with Phillips over the first half of the season fuelled the Baggies rise to the top.

And it’s a march which is raising the volume levels at The Hawthorns which the manager was keen to salute after Saturday’s victory.

“For the past month, the fans have been fantastic vocally,” he said.

“Even when we were 1-0 down, they were shouting their heads off. The last few minutes were a bit nervy but they stayed right behind us.

“I’m sure it gives the players an extra yard.”

Only problem is, there aint enough of us! The townsfolk dont really deserve the team. We are playing fabulous football, letting in a few to add a bit of drama! top of the division which makes us the best side outside the premiership. Saturday 3 pm kick of and 5000 empty seats. As Delia says , Lets be ‘avin you!

Dave Jones - No 2. Honest assessment mate. Your crowd was slightly lower for a Saturday 3.00pm kick off against a play-off chasing side than ours for a mid week match against a relegation threatened side. At a time when most of us are still hacked off about the last 2/3 months performances. If we were in your position, playing your style of football Molineux would be bursting at the seems.

Seems your support is a larger version of Walsalls - apathetic, even in the face of success.

    1. Best fans?! Don’t make me laugh, Wolves might be playing crap at the moment, but we far out-do you lot as fans. (Barring the fickle idiots that every club has of course).

Wolves are a 40,000 club minimum,

Albion don’t seem to have anywhere near a full house unless it’s kids for a quid.

Apathy is an easy excuse. It goes much deeper than that.It has much to do with unemployment, and the ethnic make up of the population (sections of which do not seem embrace the game of football )which has changed greatly over the years. This ooupled with the fact that West Brom has a smaller population than our bigger neighbours.Their is also the lure of the Birmingham teams all competing for the same customer type and to a lesser degree those with an afinity to Walsall (which is only a couple of miles away )contributes to disapating the supporter catchment area that West Brom could expect to draw supporters from. Thus creating gates lower than should be
    expected

However I have no doubt that when we reach the Promised Land of The Prem we will get the “Prem Supporters” turning up especially for the glamour matches.

  7. TonyWBA said:

LCW, can you prove the fact that you have 40000 club minimum….when is the last time you managed that kind of attendance, yes you get bigger gates than we do at the Hawthorns but i think your totalling is a slight exageration.

  8. Happy_baggie said:

    5 - 40,000 minimum ?? So where are they then ??

If we are dealing in fantasy then albion are a 100,000 minimum - see how stupid it sounds ?

I think the team would rather have 22,000 CHEERING fans than the booing, infighting morons that your lot attract.

Its a fact that we have a smaller catchment area than wolves, and who knows, maybe wolves even has more affluence - but the whole attendance issue is a non-story… we get what we get.

Who wants the glory-hunters to suddenly appear… 22,000 bouncing, boinging baggies seems to doing the trick at present !!

Ken & Wizards…. as someone who regularly gets their worms muffled up, I would like to say that I enjoy reading postings from both of you - and your spelling and grammar takes nothing away from your content.

I know we have so little to worry about these days, but this argument is irrelevant.

it could be worse - you could be unable to count, like LCW.

Why do the dingles comment on the baggies page, its because they have nothing to say on they own page because they are playing crap.Stick to your own page dingles and leave this page to the supporters with the best football team in the league, the baggies will be looking down on you from the premiership next season, and you will be looking for a new manager if you don’t get into the playoffs.Where will your fictitious 40,000 come from then

That was the funniest thing I’ve read in ages. Genius!!!
Molineux is like The Bermuda Triangle. Thousands of “supporters” mysteriously vanished back in the mid 1980’s.

Spot on, as your mail was both interesting and well thought out, I can’t say that I even noticed any spelling or grammar mistakes.
    Ken Hawthorn.
You are a div. You won’t find that word in the OED but I’m sure you will get the gist. Not everyone enjoys your ‘obvious’ advantages in life. You should try exercising a little tolerance and humility unless you’re answering someone who is being deliberately obnoxious.

I love seeing the Wolves fans on our site, surely it’s what these sites are all about, lively banter. I know they’re not all exactly Brains of Britain but so what?

Ken, I don’t understand why you come on here with what seems to me an utter arrogance, I just pointed out to you because you were being basically harsh on a fellow Albion supporter. Wouldn`t care if it was just me and my son in the ground, the footballs great to watch. Passing at pace and scoring goals, wolves fans are clinging onto the fact that they get a couple of thousand more, wolverhamptons a city with a much larger population than west brom so pro rata their attendances are actually pathetic, but hey their playing terrible long ball rubbish and to cap it all they`ve just signed kyle (very funny that one)so hence they`d rather hide behind how many people watch them rather than face up to the mess MM is getting them into.

Post 1. Can you tell me where I can get one of these best fans. I have tried all over Sandwell to no avail. With this global warming I would like to be prepared before the onset of summer.

  31. swanseabaggy said:

Must agree with trev about the population thingy. I live in Swansea and I also know another Baggies fan who lives down the road from me. I know not of any Dingles in this area, that means if we built 2 grounds in Swansea, one for Albion & one for Wolves that would mean Albions ground would be a lot fuller.
