Wolves skipper return closer

Wolves' Gary BreenSkipper Gary Breen continued his fight for a first-team place last night – as goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey called for Wolves to tighten up at the back.

Breen played a full game for the second string as he looks to build up his fitness for a possible weekend recall.

With Neill Collins suffering an ankle injury on Tuesday, Breen may be pressed into action at Vicarage Road – where Hennessey feels the defence will need to shape up to claim their 14th clean sheet of the season.

“We’re building a bit of momentum, but we’re starting to get a bit sloppy at the back. We’re doing well going forward but we do turn off at times,” said the Welsh international.

“The way we’re playing now the ball is with the front players all the time, but that doesn’t mean we can stop concentrating because that’s when you start to concede goals.

“I’m delighted to see the team doing so well, but I want clean sheets to go with the results – ask any goalkeeper and he’ll say the same thing to you.”

• Wolves have announced they will unveil their Early Bird season ticket offer in mid-February.

The club are currently finalising prices and are pledging to take into account fans’ concerns about keeping prices low when they make their announcement.
