Wolves land defender George Elokobi

emp-256059322.jpgWolves have signed Colchester defender George Elokobi, the club has confirmed.

Cameroon defender Elokobi, who turned 22 on Thursday, has penneda two-and-half-year deal at Molineux for an undisclosed sum.

Mick McCarthy has been tracking Elokobi - whose nickname is Big George according to the Wolves website - for a number of months and has held off strong competition to seal his signature.

The signing of Elokobi, exclusively predicted in Thursday’s Express & Star, comes after Wolves let Charlie Mulgrew and Jamie Clapham leave the club.

The defender’s advisors have been in talks with Wolves over a transfer and boss Mick McCarthy was keen to tie up the deal before the midnight deadline.

Wolves were looking to strike a deal worth in the region of £500,000 with possible add-ons for appearances.

The defender made 17 starts for the U’s this season, scoring once, but fell out of favour after asking for a transfer from Layer Road earlier this campaign.

It’s official - club website has now confirmed it. Quality signing for us, I’m very pleased with our transfer dealings this month.

Although Sky Sports reported it as a 3 & half year deal - actual fact is 2 & half… weird.

Glad we’ve grabbed this bloke, Celtic were after him not long back and his strong build looks like it can only enhance our back four. I don’t agree with some of the U’s fans bad mouthing him, I mean he can’t really perform at his best at a small club like them. Hopefully he will prove to be a good aquisition. Least now MM’s proved that he doesn’t just go for ex-Sunderland/Irish players.

If by some chance we need any more signings after the window, we can still sign loans but I feel we have a fairly strong squad now.

3 great signings,,,,, 1 iffy one,, we really are motoring,,,a good run and if we can beat our rivals in head to heads,,,, why not win the league,,, wolves are 20/1,,, its worth a tenner, im going to double it with Darlington 7/2, £10 double is worth a grand if it comes off, pays for your season ticket,, and worse case your down 3 pints

    Great signing.
Whatever happens, the fans ARE Wolves, we fans are OUR club. Win or lose the fans have been there for the club through thick and thin. We had a bad spell this season and don’t need to be told that we “Sing when we’re winning” and to be called fickle, we’re better than that… optimist or pessimist, we are Wolves!. The lads will do their bit, lets do ours.

just seen the picture of him on the the official site… what a bruiser!!! NICE! i think if i was a striker i would try and stay well clear of him!

think we have a really good squad know…..the transfer window has been good for us again this year.. as long as MM gets the tactics right i think we could do it this year..

    COME ON WOLVES!!!

We’ll have to wait and see. Somehow I don’t see it cut and dry for the championship title. You’ve got a long way to go yet.
You can say what you like about McCarthy most of his signings have been spot on.
Is it true Hartson has been given a job as Albion’s Nutritionist.

It’s ‘you’re’ easily pleased, not ‘your’. Didn’t you go to school? Try reading a book.

    Boing, bang, phfffft.

Now the signing panic is over for a while. When the dust settles and M.M. has the team formation sorted. It would seem to be up up and away. After my previous thoughts were that M.M. had settled for another year in the Championship. I now think I was wrong. The Signings seem to be largely just what we need. We have had our bad patch, which all clubs have during a season, now top two, why not. We have to play just about all the teams above us at the moment. Keep the WOLVES hungry M.M.
    Up The Wolves.

And with the new signing comes the inevitable new song:
You put your left leg in
    Your left leg out
    In
    Out
    In
    Out
    You shake it all about
You do the Elokobi and you turn around….

Remember, you heard it here first!

It’s expensive by him by the looks, it also costs £10 for 3 pints ha.

northern wolf you must be insane to bet on your own team, i always avoid wolves when placing bets cause your heart rules your head every time…and as for the prospect of winning a grand…you’re really in cuckoo land.
Its a tight divison and lots can happen still but our form will still need to improve drastically to stand any chance of maintaining a place in the top six never mind the top two. No More Crystal Palaces…or draws with QPR…Another 4 defeats before the end of the season and that’s it…about 12 is your max…we’re already over the average for defeats for this stage of season.
Watford will not gift us 3 points on saturday…no way, Aidy Bothroyd will not allow them to. I think a draw is more realistic away at Watford in the league, forget the cup result, its irrelevant. If we win…the season may turn in our favour, its a pivotal game. No more mistakes.
I have my doubts about Elokobi…Us fans may be happy to see the back of him for good reason! You don’t get rare gems in the shop window at this level, never! You get unsettled players and those who’s contracts are not going to be renewed.

Im delighted we have signed a defender, it was looking a bit threadbare defensively

I havent seen him play but if he can move at quicker than a snails pace he has to be a good addition to our incredibly cumbersome defence

Mick cant complain about anything he has brought in 4 players during the window, now its play offs minimum or its time to pack his bags

  24. terrywalsallbaggie said:

He looks like one hell of a big beefy left back. A defender at last. Would still have liked to see a young pacy centre back too. But time will tell now,as to MM getting the tactics right, then i think we could do it this year.
