Albion chairman Jeremy Peace has promised a new tribute to Tony ‘Bomber’ Brown at the Hawthorns - but it will not be a stand or statue.
Fans have been deluging the Express & Star to support the suggestion made by our Albion blogger Jarrod Hill that Bomber should be honoured.
The midfielder holds Albion’s goalscoring and appearance record and remains a regular at all Baggies games.
Mr Peace has written to Jarrod to outline the club’s plans to honour Bomber.

He said: “I completely agree with the sentiment expressed in your attached article.
“In fact, Tony Brown is one of my all-time favourite players. He is a true Albion legend who is still very much part of the fabric of the Club.
“During my Chairmanship, I have received many requests from supporters asking the Club to pay tribute to numerous former great players by naming a stand after them or erecting a statue in their honour.
“This is a course of action we have so far decided against because the choice of a best player is so subjective.
“This is why the Club¹s former greats have been remembered in other ways.
“For example, the East Stand houses the Pennington, Bassett and Richardson Suites, whilst the Halfords Lane Stand features Bomber¹s and the Ronnie Allen Bar and the Barlow and Glidden Suites.
“Furthermore, the Astle gates adorn the entrance to the East Stand car park.
“The interior walls of the East Stand also feature photographs and memorabilia showcasing the Club¹s illustrious past.
“None of this is meant to diminish in any way Bomber¹s incredible service to the Club.
“Indeed, I doubt the two Albion records he holds, Club appearances and goals scored, will ever be beaten.
“Bomber¹s Bar¹ in its current tired state will no longer exist when we press ahead with our plans to upgrade the Halfords Lane Stand over the coming months.
“However, I am pleased to inform you that we are committed to naming one of the new facilities in the renovated stand after Tony.“

good for him, hopefully some of the current crop may get one but i doubt it,did bomber ahve an agent??
It was probably his dad
We’re not gonna let this lie are we? Surely not! JP has underestimated the stature of Tony Brown in our club. Let’s keep the pressure on and not be fobbed off.
Notice JP’s use of the words “so far decided against”
He’s left the door open on this one.
Come on JP - just name a stand after Bomber Brown and be done with it !
JP you disgust me!!!
Why cant the stand be named after him why cant there be a statue by the club shop of him.
You really have no concept what bomber means to us.
You will name a facillity after him , whats that going to be a broom cupboard,a stairwell you really dont deserve to chairman of this club!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Baggie Boy - I understand your passion for commemorating Tony’s achievments, but lets go overboard….. Yes there is overwhelming support to honour TB - but to suggest JP doesn’t deserve to be chairman or to say he disgusts you is wrong (IMO).
JP runs the club - he runs it very well and is helping to turn us into a premiership club wth a chance of sustaining our development.
Lets not all grab our pitchforks and torches and hound the man out because he has not agreed to our request. lets not forget that bomber is honoured already - as are Allen, Richardson, pennington and others from our great past, and it sounds like there will be further recognition to come.
I also want to see Bomber given a fitting tribute - but i want to see West Bromwich Albion become a great club again and believe that Peace is on the way to making this happen.
and of course 7 should have read “lets NOT go overboard”….
The ‘Bomber Suite’ ….Big Deal……..Wot an insult to the Man!
Come on Jeremy, get your finger out of yer…….Ear and do something to make us proud to be Baggies.Surely you can come up with something better than that!
Happy Baggie, There was more than half an hour between your posts I nearly drowned!!!!! lol.
JP is always trying to do things on the cheap. Which as a rule is not a bad idea but for once he should let his hair down! (you know what I mean lol)
I remember early last year he was on Wm phone - in a caller came on and asked “could we have a massive albion badge flag to pass around the ground with no sponsors name on”
His reply was I will see what I can do, what did we get an albion shirt flag with the sponsors name on it (paid for by the sponsor)
I agree I like the way he does not spend money we have not got and we will always have a team to support, but what would a statue cost 10K?
10k for a statue or 2.50 for a plaque thats says “bombers bar” guess which one we will be getting to honour him.
Regards
BB
“This is a course of action we have so far decided against because the choice of a best player is so subjective.”
Simple solution which a hard nosed businessman must agree with - take away the subjectivity! Propose a statue (or a stand naming) to the games record holder at the club rather than to subjective “best player”.
If anyone ever beats his record (which, lets face it, you’d have to end up a club legend to even get close these days!) then give them a statue (or a stand name) as well.
