New striker in Wolves vow

kyle.jpgWolves new boy Kevin Kyle checked into Molineux after sealing a season-long loan deal and insisted: “I will prove my worth.”

Boss Mick McCarthy swooped to sign Kyle this morning to end the striker’s nightmare spell at Coventry City and add the target man he has been chasing since the summer.

After completing his medical today Kyle hailed the move as a “dream come true” and said he is relishing the prospect of a clean slate at Molineux.

“I’m really glad to be here, it’s a dream move. I haven’t had a smile like this since my son Max was born,” he said today.

“It’s a fresh start for me and I’m sure some fans will have their opinions, but I’d like to think all the fans will give me a chance and somewhere down the line they’ll hopefully think ‘He was a good addition and he’s done his bit.’

“I’m all out determined to do that – there is no better feeling when you’re doing well than the fans shouting your name.”

The McCarthy factor has clearly played a key role in convincing Kyle that Molineux is the perfect place to relaunch his career.

“It’s great to link up with Mick (McCarthy) again,” the striker said.

“He got the best out of me when he was at Sunderland. In the season that we got to the semi-finals in the FA Cup and the play-offs, I got 16 goals.

“Mick believed in me and gave me the opportunity to go out and prove myself.”

Kyle’s signing comes as a surprise, but it appears that the boss has been able to convince owner Steve Morgan that Kyle’s addition will add the finishing touch to his attacking mix.

Morgan and McCarthy sat together in the directors box at Anfield last week to see Peter Crouch make a decisive impact off the bench against Villa and that may have swayed the Wolves owner’s thinking.

Kyle’s goalscoring record is five goals in 27 starts for Coventry. The 26-year-old Scottish international was with McCarthy at Sunderland where he scored 19 goals in 73 starts.

At 6ft 3ins he adds more height to a team now boasting six senior strikers and McCarthy will look at him as a potential impact player.

The boss said today: “He’ll be a big addition to the squad.”

I’ve been really upbeat all morning following another great win for the Wolves but I’m a little confused at this signing.

How many strikers do we need? Surely one is on their way out?
With Keogh, SEB, Bothroyd and Elliott all getting goals in the last 2 games where is he going to play?

I know competition for places is good but I don’t understand this one

Freddie is heading for the exit.

Why another Striker, should we not be looking for cover in the midfield, especially out on the flanks and what about a couple of quality central defenders.

    Baffling to say the least.

KK is obviously aware that he carries the ‘donkey’ tag when he says that “all fans have their own opinion”.

Yes, we all have our own opinions on this guy, but I for one am willing to give him a chance to ‘prove his worth’. If we boo him from the off, whats that going to do to him? We’ve all seen what a bit of confidence can do for even the worst of players. Just look at Potter and Henry’s recent form!

The thing is Peter Crouch is 6.7″ KK is 6.3″ that’s a big difference in height. Crouchie can play the ball well first time when its into his feet, he’s creative imaginative and has a keen eye for strikiing goals aswell as just simply kncoking them down for others. My point is you can’t watch a vastly superior Liverpool squad feed Crouch all day long with quality and excpect KK to do the same job, when frankly they’re clearly not the same kind player with the same skill levels and all round play. The only thing they have in common is they are tall! (and Crouchy is considerably taller.)

Ex Sunderland again!! MM please look further than the end of your nose for ‘talent’. I see this as a regressive step for us, his record for Coventry isn’t that impressive and he can’t be that good if the Sky Blues said he could go.
Also another striker was not our most pressing need, what about one more attacking midfielder and a left back?
Poor old Freddy, what on earth have you ever done to upset MM?

I’m not sure that this arrival means we will loose one of our existing strikers since he is only on loan and he a completely different type of player to all our other forwards. By signing KK, MM is looking to give himself every possible footballing option as we push for promotion.

This shows Mick’s total lack of imagination. He understands one system only which is why he’s spent 18months looking for a “Niall Quinn”. Expect football to end now in favour of “hoof it up at the big man”. Exactly how Mick liked to play when he managed the Republic.

I don’t object to having a big forward in the squad but KK hardly fits in with Mick’s professed preference for young, hungry up and coming players. Coventry must be rolling around the floor.

What you on about? Got no problem with fans rating Eastwood and thinking he’s a decent player. But class act? Haha. Some of you lot slate MM, yet worship a player who has done no where near enough to enjoy such idolising. Class act ha, can’t believe you’ve said that. ‘Bereton’ gave a brilliant breakdown the other day of FE’s games and he most certainly showed that as of yet Freddy is far from hero material. Maybe he has been a little hard done by at times, but if you don’t prove yourself when playing, then thats down to you. No doubt you will argue he proved himself at the star of the season, but he himself claimed to be tired and then struggled for form after. Decent maybe, Class far from shown yet.

I agree he hasn’t been given a fair crack (or should that be craic)of the whip & with the signings of Edwards & Ebanks-Blake coupled with the resurgence of Matty Jarvis, Freddy in the team, would score goals.
The team as an whole have been pathetic in midfield all season until this transfer window. But the top & tail of it is Freddy is INJURED!Though why he can’t play in a plaster cast is beyond me,considering you play football with your feet.
Mr Morgan is no fool & has the Bank balance to prove it.
MM is still living on borrowed time!
If he fails to get Wolves promoted this season ( or at the very least a trip to Wembley), he’ll be gone!

  50. james_wolves said:

look, i dont know why you are complaining. its better than no extra player. hes a good tall striker so if ebanks blake is injured then we still have height up front. plus dont count elliot and bothroyd and ward as striker because they play better on the wing which will help create for the strikers. so we only have eastwood, kyle, ebanks blake and keogh up front. which is enough.

As even though Keogh scored last night he looked lost for long periods on the pitch.

hes just another option to throw on if we are getting desperate so we can be more direct.

for all you saying we need a couple of “pacey” defenders take a lok at the league tables once in a while. We have the joint best defence in the division. And for the record Merlin Mick as you were all calling him last season has always wanted a lofty center forward. Anyone with a football brain would know this is a handy addition to the squad. ^^

    Shhhhh

I would like to apologise for my message outburst earlier, but I just feel something about Eastwood’s potential and I would be absolutely gutted if he left without being a first team regular. If you look back to Frankowski, he cost £1.5m and was a failure. However, he failed to score after a good run in the side. He didn’t score in the 16 games he played in his first season. So all I want is for Eastwood to have a similar opportunity e.g 10 starts and see where he’s at. Someone said I was stupid for saying he is a class act, but he has bags of ability. If you watch the youtube video of his Southend goals and glimpses I’ve seen from him here e.g hitting posts, he has sharpness to find space for a shot, his close control can be superb at times, and he has a very accurate finish (I was at the Bray friendly in Ireland). I think he could be awesome!

We all said before th start of the season that we needed a couple of midfielders and defenders and still MM ignores this. Why can’t this man see what everyone else can see; or rather not see. That is we have a non existent midefield!

Is this another E&S joke, or an irish joke. not at KK’s expence, you understand but at ours?

Er, I thought it was a midfielder a left back and a central defender we needed. Anybody know any REALLY good jokes

i think its part of Mr Morgans plan to help teams in need as he has done in Africa…. if we donate money to Coventry we get to keep a player for a season and all we have to do is feed him and give him a new strip LOL…. But seriously lets keep the faith… C’MON WOLVES

One of my dad’s work colleagues has summed up Mick MaCarthy and his striker shopping spree perfectly, If I sent you to the shops with a tenner and you came back with the wrong thing and then did that another 8 or 9 times, I certainly wouldn’t give you another tenner or another chance for that matter !
I’m Wolves through and through but does this new signing mean that I will have to change my allegiance to ‘Strikers R us United’ ???
I cant believe we now have this many strikers,…

    1.Stephen Elliott Undisclosed ?
    2.Jay Bothroyd Free ?
    3.Andy Keogh £600,000
    4.Freddie Eastwood £1,500,000
    5.Sylvain Ebanks-Blake £1,500,000
    6.Kevin Kyle On Loan
7.Steven Ward (swapped for magic beans)

I stand corrected if I’m wrong on any of the above players before anyone says otherwise !

JOKE JOKE JOKE JOKE, not the signing of kK but the majority of so called Wolves fans on here who’s knocking him before he’s even kicked a ball, lets face it nobodys gonna set the world on fire playin for coventry nowadays, but if he can get on the end of a few of our wingers crosses then who knows,i for one say WELCOME KEV an good luck in joining our search for promotion, take no notice of the whingers. UP THE WOLVES

Hear We go again…n here I go again…just how fickle are We & why do We wonder why attracting players (good or indifferent)is so difficult….lets just read over some of the so-called supporters comments..FOR CHRIST SAKE, let the guy get a foot in the door & lets see what metal he’s made of. I seem to remember 2 players being offered to Us as rejects from Sandwell Town…I just wonder what kind of reaction that would have had if these blogs had been around in those days…?????????????????????.
I do agree that we have what we could call a surplus in this area & I’d love to have seen at least 1 more strong middy along with at least 1 more for the back row..as in Fox, BUT, lets think back to previous run ins…..We always seemed to have run into trouble with injuries up front & also suffered with “fatigued players at times”, therefore, maybe MM is using experiance gained to give Us as many options up front should these problems surface.
Wotever happens guys n girls, lets keep the faith, lets show the support that has spurred the team on…n lets show the world what its like to be faithful, true followers of their clubs.

On a lighter note,I hear theres a major hold up on the M6 tonight..a wide load or somethin…ahhh..just comin clearer…Hartsons on his way, followed no doubt soon by all the “top quality signings” the boggies have made when the dream of Prem Football turns into a nightmare for them..the ships started sinkin..Women, Children & Prima Donna’s first eh….???

The futures bright…the futures ORANGE…N BLACK.

you fickle fans we dont need you at this great club of ours go and support 1 of the lesser local teams just give the bloke a chance hes only on loan rather have him in team than bothroyd so cmon support the team and the players

Been thinking bout this one all day.
Shocked when I heard the news. Yet another striker ? Point is MM may be right on this one. Somebody who can mix it with the Chris Morgan’s of this league.
It might be a very good move by Mick. KK is not here as an out and out goal scorer, he is here to give us some muscle up front. Give him a chance !!!

  95. paddy said:

    Great…. another striker.
Although hopefully Elliot and Bothroyd will be shown the door.

Karl Henry was shocking last night. Absolutely appalling. Isn’t it time we bought another David Edwards instead of a striker?

  96. norwegianwolf said:

I´d have understood the moans if we had signed Kyle on and expensive 4 yr contract for £ 750 000 or something like that, in fact I´d have been one of the moaners myself. BUT, he is on LOAN, does offer an aerial presence that has been seen far to rarely in the Wolves´ attack this season, and might do an important job in a very tight division if used sensibly (coming on as a sub for the last 20 mins in matches where we need to nick a goal from somewhere to get a point or three…). Now, where is the pacy defender I had hoped we would sign? Come on MM!!

  97. gornal wolf(in Gent) said:

I don’t believe what I am reading, not only is this guy a Sunderland reject ( MM I am starting to detect some pattern here ), but he CLEARLY was not good enough for Cov !
Do we reallt need another striker …………. MM surely we need defenders ?

Quote from a Coventry Fan “Kevin Kyle is one of the worse players i have had the mis-fortune to see play in a City team and i go way back to 1962. How he has made a career in pro-football is beyond me let alone earn close on half a million a year. While i wouldn’t boo or jeer him i can’t allow you to make such a statement and not challenge it. He has scored to date i think it is 31 goal’s in his WHOLE career. What ever possessed Mickey Adams to buy him god only knows and for Iain Dowie to stubbornly keep picking him a joke quite frankly. He should never play in a City shirt again.
    Bob Taylor mk2?

  101. LINCSWOLF said:

Shades of Super Robert Taylor or what ?

  102. chris said:

who next Niall Quinn! Jon Stead maybe, how about Patrick Mboma. . .

the only decent striker to come out of sunderland in the last 15 years is down the road and top scorer in this league.

It really shows the manager lack of inginuity when he signs players based on friendship rather than current ability. . .

Oh but of course we are crying out for him, its obvious, we’ve only scored 8 goals in the last three games, with bothroyd, keogh, blake, and elliot all playing a part but noooo WHAT BETTER WAY TO CONFUSE THE STRIKERS WE ALREADY HAVE. foolish

  103. Bill (York) said:

When are the Wolves fans going to stop slagging the team off, especially players who have not even kicked a ball for the team.
We all understand the frustration of the recent form, from 3rd down to 12th position. We are the best fans in the country,so lets get behind the team both old and new. The comment from the last two new signings was, with these fans behind you you have a 12th man on the pitch, so good luck MM, KK and most of all the WOLVES TEAM, If you have the faith, then the rewards will come.

  104. wolveswolves said:

  105. SUPERSTARDJWOLVES said:

LincsWolf,, Definately shades of Robert Taylor but luckily he is only on loand and not given a 4 year contract. KK is a complete waste of space. I can see Wolves style of play now when things aint going right… huff it up, what a waste of time.

    MM OUT IN THE SUMMER!!!
