It’s amazing how a couple of good results can lift the air of doom and gloom amongst the Wolves fans, writes Wolves blogger Nathan Lloyd.
Saturday’s superb victory against the Hornets illustrated just what this under performing Wolves team can achieve.
Most pleasing for me was that Matt Jarvis had another good game and made most of the Sunday papers’ FA Cup team of the weekend.
The left hand side of the team has been a bug bear of mine and a lot of Wolves fans for most of the season.
You can’t lay the blame solely at Stephen Ward’s door. He has been asked to play out of position and has tried his best.
But when Ward was playing on one side and somebody like Karl Henry was posted out on the opposite flank, it was clear there was a midfield imbalance and the front guys were starved of service.
Understandably, injuries have played a big part in MM’s selection policy in midfield.
But there have been times when Jarvis or Kightly have been injured that it would have been nice to see Mick use one of the successful kids from last season like Gleeson, Davies or Gobern to mix up the midfield pack.
But that’s old ground, and hopefully with a fit Matt Jarvis and deputy winger Stephen Elliott, we should now see some of the football we have been starved of so badly at Molineux recently.
I’m actually really looking forward to a Wolves game at Molineux for the first time in ages tonight.
The Owls come into the game in indifferent form having lost to Derby in penalties in the Cup and their league form has left them just outside the relegation places.
Unfortunately it looks like an injury will prevent a return from Leon “he looks like he enjoys a burger or two” Clarke from playing against his old club.
I say unfortunately, but even the slowest and fattest ex-players have a tendancy to come back and bite us.
Leon Clarke comes from the Adam Proudlock school of football.
Both are slower than broken down milk floats and will probably both stumble from club to club until they hit 30 and become immortalised as journey men in the lower leagues.
Anyway, a convincing win tonight and something from a full-strength Watford side at the weekend and hopefully our season is back on track.
I think we can finally see where the goals are coming from in this Wolves side.
Good luck to the boys tonight.

wolves will win the championship title, support the wolves, shout and cheer them on.be more positive, what has happened these past months is history, nobody can change anything, what matters is from now on.wolves will win the title.
We aint gonna win the title, but a play-off place is still realistic.
Keep believing, I think we may have turned the corner.
1 Carlisle Wolves:
As much as I would like to see it happen,I think your being a tad optimistic with your claim that Wolves will win the title.I’d settle for promotion via the Play-offs if necessary.
It is nice to see the lads putting the “terrible period” behind them, which I think was injury induced. It wasn’t always down to MM’s team selections.
However, some of his team selections have left me scratching my head.
On the subject of the FA cup, coming up against the Baggies in the later stages is looking like a possibility, hopefully the Semi’s.The Black Country (& at least one property in Kent) would be empty that day, as we headed to Wembley.
As long as the “idiots” behave themselves……
we r going up!!
Left back needed ASAP!
Centre Half Asap!
= Playoffs!
3days to go get the cheque book out 1 last push!
I agree. Winning the title is a bit optimistic, but the front runners at the moment can be caught, we are just a bit too far away. Albion are bad at the back, Bristol City - have they got a squad?, Watford - Saturday. Forget about rested players, how many players did we have out?
I still have reservations about Collins and Bothroyd.
Tonight is a must win and it will be interesting to see who MM starts with. He made a comment at the weekend to say he always puts out his strongest team. That is questionable on this seasons choices.
Let’s get behind the boys and hopefully we can secure 3 points tonight and on Saturday too.
Gleeson, Gobern and Davies either are or have been injured for long periods this season. There is plenty to criticise Mick for but lets not berate him for not choosing injured players. How apt that the official Guess and Star blogger is so ill informed.
I still stand by my position that MM needs to go. Two wins does not suddenly gloss over his limitations. He hasn’t addressed the centre half problem, and he has had more than enough time to sort it out. If everyone can see it, why the hell can’t he?
This is the first blog in a long long time that I actually agree with you on Nathan.
I too am excited to go to the match tonight, the first time i have felt like this since much earlier in the season. To quote our leader i am simply “chomping at the bit” to get there and 4.30 can’t come soon enough so I can leave work!
Matt Jarvis is looking great at the moment as is the midfield, we are attacking now and it’s all due to, as you say, balance!
I think Bothroyd will make way for SEB, Potter for Edwards and Gray for Collins, apart from that the same team as Watford.
My season predictions if we stay clear of injuries, top 4!
as long as karl henry is playing for us we will go nowhere
i admit he was great for the first season but since he got injured
he is scared stiff to go into a tackle and 90% of his pass are backward or to the otherside
Nathan, in your last two blogs I remember you were slating the team and called for Mick’s head. Now you say how a couple of good resuls have stopped the doom and gloom? was this a pop at the fickle fans? You then go on to say your looking forward to the game and this could be a turning point! No wonder we are known as fickle fans.
6 Karl Said: “How apt that the official Guess and Star blogger is so ill informed.”
Does that make any sense to anybody?
Guess and star, hilarious, it must have taken you ages to come up with that gem.
The fact of the matter is that Davies, Gleeson and Gobern have played well in the reserves along with Rosa without even a sniff of getting near the first team.
Its frustating to see Gibson or Henry pushed out onto the flanks when we have some talented youngsters at the club who HAVE NOT been injured all season.
think you are a joker one minute you want the manager out! The next its not his fault because he had injuries!
First time I have ever felt the need to comment on here, but someone please tell me that Carlisle Wolf is joking?
Win the title?
Mick McCarthy couldn’t run a bath, let alone a Premiership club.
100% agreed posts #4
“He has been asked to play out of position and has tried his best.” Wardy’s a complete stranger to that role, no, really, he is. Never played there before. Throw in Marky D, that’s what we’re missing.. Theres no law against playing with crutches, is there?
I bet you were one of those singing Clarkes praises when Jones first blooded him, and first in line to boo him when he shushed the finger?
Karl Henry is great - as a right back. He was playing here when we went on our great run last season. I know he wants to play centre midfield but I want to play centre forward for Wolves. However, I make Leon Clarke look pacey and know it’s in the club’s best interest not to play me there!
It was painfully obvious what was missing, maybe MM does read blogs because its no coincidence that the last two games hes played a more balanced midfield,we’ve played our best football all season.Yes,Jarvis hasn’t been available but why he lets Daniel Jones out on loan when Ward isn’t cutting it i’ll never know.Thats what concerns me with MM,his tactical nous and blind faith in certain players.Mcindoe’s want away antics say it all i reckon.
what all the wolves fans dont relise is that the football you watched agaisnt watford is the same as albion fans have been watchin all season!!!!???
I find it interesting that people on here feel we have a problem at centre half, when we have only won one league game from 9, yet stil have the best defensive record in the league, what we need desperately is a good young left back, I think Fox from Walsall would have been great & also he was within our price range & criteria
This would give the back four some much needed balance & I’m sure you would see the 2 central defenders appear to be alot more at ease during games, in the same way that the midfield has benfitted from the balance that Jarvis, Elliott & Edwards have provided.
A decent couple of wins in the next 2 games should have us well back on track.
Up The Wolves!!!!!
Sorry, the last 2 results only is a coincidence that MM has played players in their rightful place and dropped the idiots… saying that when Kites is fit he will have to drop Elliott. SEB to come in for JB.
why cant we win the leaugue guys?11 points off.its not that much compared 2 games left we can do it we have the best squad in the league.im really excited about this the performance on sat was unbelievable.jarvis on the left elliot on the right/kites wen fit.keogh and seb up front.edwards and henry in midfield.creativity and pace alround.1 man who hasnt been mentioned is pots he played fantastic last weekend he shouldn b ruled out.who mite suffer from this good form?seyi.hes not gettin his place back if wer playin like this who wud u drop?no one.i still think freddy can do it he deserves another chance he was the only 1 who tried wen we wer in bad form.if keogh isnt scoring then put him in he had no service 2 score goals.if breen gets in the team i really will loose faith nothing wrong with our defence at the mo.sayin dat after the 02 world cup barcelona tried 2 buy him 4 8 mil.laugh if u will but look it up its true.come on boys lets get behind the lads.we are premiere league.micks gold and black army
“slower than a broken down milk float” … Quality!
Thanks bro!
Nathan Lloyd.
Do you still think McCarthy needs to be sacked?
fickle fickle fickle
we need a run in the league not the cup but both would be nice looks more like a play off place again.
lets hope the fans will get behind the lads for the last half ov the season our vocal suport is second to none.
At last Mick is picking a midfield that puts an emphasis on attack rather than protecting the defence and the benefits are there for all to see. Three wins and eight goals. Jarvis and Edwards have made a huge difference. Keogh and Ebanks Blake will form a good partnership and credit to Elliot for doing a decent job on the right. If we can get Kightly back for the last two months of the season we will have a team that are really worth watching and will be certainties for the top six. If we are close to the top two when Kightly returns then who knows. Albion fans should go out and polish their wing mirrors cause the gap is going to close.
