What a great day out Saturday was, the team played well, and the blue and white army of Albion fans were simply brilliant, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill
As a contest the game was not up to much, but that was down to taking an early two goal lead.
The 4,000 plus fans were on form and sang throughout the 90 minutes, my nephew was experiencing his first away game and loved every minute, I just hope he did not go home and tell his mum about all the new words he has learnt!
I knew we were on to a winner when my superstitious Uncle (John) did not see a nun on our way down to Peterborough; it is so uncanny, every time he sees a nun on the way to a game we lose.
I was more than a little disappointed in drawing Coventry in the next round, I was hoping for Arsenal away (trip to the Emirates), or at worst a team not in the Championship.
At least it is a short trip, and we should be allocated approx 5,000 tickets, and we owe them one from the last time we met.
It also represents an excellent opportunity to progress into the quarter finals, and with the draw ensuring at least three teams from outside the Premiership will make it through to the last eight, everyone is getting excited.
Tonight we are away at Preston, (unfortunately I cannot go) and the next few weeks of fixtures will have a huge bearing on were we finish this season.
Having had a look at who is playing who, many of our closest rivals are playing each other, and if we can win our next two or three games we could open a bigger gap at the top of the league.
We face Preston just as their results have began to improve, and they had a great win against Derby on Saturday, we also come face to face with two old boys in Carter and Chaplow.
Both struggled to make a real impression at the Hawthorns and with the midfield department being so strong decided to move on to gain first team football.
On the subject of transfers, this week we have welcomed Danek our new keeper, it will be interesting to see what type of opportunity he gets with Mowbray openly displaying total faith in Deano.
We are also rumoured to be considering offering Dorrans a deal after impressing Mowbray and his backroom staff.
It was surprising to see young Lateef Elford Alliyu picked to travel with the first team on Saturday, although he did not manage to make the bench, Mowbray has stated he is not too far away from appearing for the first team.
It is great to see our youth academy starting to bare some fruit, other than Hodgkiss and Nicholson we have seen a recent lack of players coming through our ranks.
I am reliably informed that our U16s are an excellent bunch with real potential, and with the first team doing so well and the training facilities being first class, lets hope we can continue to attract the best young players and see a steady stream of first team graduates.

it seems that this is one of those times when it is great to be a baggie, have you noticed that when a player goes on loan ,it is only then that the new signing arrives,i hope this player is bought for proffesional rather than commercial reasons!!the fa cup remains an enigma but my fingers are crossed that we amke this a season to remember,as you say feb has lots of games and at the end we will have a better ideaCOME ON YOU BAGGIES in mowbray we trust!!
Well Jarrod, if your uncle does persist in visiting these convents before a game, you may have to keep him on a tight lead in the run up to the end of the season.
Well onto the away support, unfortunately I have’nt been to an away game this year and my lack of away day outtings are partially because of work commitments and partially the other half moaning she don’t see me enough to my work commitments (I’ve still managed to maintain my season ticket though), previously to being tied down to both i was a regular away day follower and the support has been fantastic, I remember beating Bury 3-0 and Peschisolido getting an hat-trick what a day & what support. We are a lucky bunch to have such wonderfull support on the road, and i do look forward to seeing that support on the one away match that i have put my foot down for (i do wear trousers sometimes) our illustrious trip down the A41, dependant obviously on me being able to get a ticket due to not got away this season.
Anyway onto tonight, I feel Preston maybe a little overjoyed regarding their win over Derby and that may well just play into our hands, i’m expecting a tough game but i think it can be a victorious night. come on you baggies.
Sorry about my rambling.
Kim Do Hyeon is apparently signing today aswell, another attacking midfielder to add to the ranks!!!
Chaplow is injured for tonight!!
Yes Jarrod my son and I much prefer to be at away games because its much more lively and fun. Peterborough was another occasion that i left the ground hoarse—by the way I noticed on Sunday that Manure were singing the best midfield in the world—that is our song isn’t it???? Are they going to boing boing next?
Lets put some space between us and our so called rivals by winning the next games—it is great to be a Baggie right now
man utd actually sing we have the best strike force in the world! and to be honest thats what wolves song lol but to be fair we havent proofed we have the best strike force in the world yet but it is coming!! black country in the premiership next season!
wolves and albion in the F.A cup final
Jarrod, can I suggest you blindfold your uncle from now until the end of the season, for the rest fo his awayday travels at least.
When we went away to Watford (in the FA Cup lost 1-0) we pulled up at one train station, and before we could tell him not to look right, there standing on the platform was about 10 nuns. We knew then that we had lost, good day out though!!
I just hope that nobody suggests nuns as our away day party fancy dress, i dread to think what would happen if he saw 4000 nuns!!!!
Where is HB??
I am worried, he has never taken this long to blog in his life, in fact where are all the regulars?? The real bully, frankthegas, wbaforever, ect ect.
Are they all together somewhere Albion related, am i missing something!!
Tickets for Cov have not secretly gone on sale today have they??
Jarrod, you’re absolutely right about our U16’s, fantastic bunch and a credit to the Academy set-up! I’ve heard we are releasing 5 or 6 of the 1st/2nd year professionals (adrian Manchester, Jack Compton, Ibrahim Sissoko) to free up room to sign professionally up to TEN og the current U16’s!! Can only auger well for the future of our club and as you all rightly point out…………….
It’s GREAT to be a Baggie!!
Hi Jarrod,
I was wondering where you were as wbaforever, the real bully, myself and a few other bloggers were all invited for tea and biscuits with ToMo, J.P, the entire squad, a multi millionaire Albion fan who wants to buy us, super bob taylor, Bomber Brown and the whole team of 78 - all to discuss how well things are going - WHERE WERE YA ??
To be fair… you didn’t miss much.
Sorry i missed that HB but work comes first, i dont think i have ever mentioned what i do for a living. I work as chief taster for a well known lager company, pay isnt great (£100k a year), but i do get a number of perks thrown in.
I dont get a company car for obvious reasons, so they provide me with a driver, Mandy is aged 22, blonde, 32dd, and bangs like a barn door in the wind, and has an open mind regarding open relationships. She openly encourages me to go to football matches and generally hang out with my mates, and when i get back to the company palace (which houses all the promotion babes) my tea is on the table (she is also a gourmet chef).
So slurp slurp yum yum, sorry busy at work HB, got to go.
p.s - we were all given free tickets to the cov match !
bomber - yeah - but are you happy ??
(wanna swap for a ticket to cov ?)
HB, i beleived you right upto the point you said JP gave something away for free!!!!
School boy error!!
I know all baggies fans are in dream land at the moment but i think we are know going a little too far, so HB just stop it, tisssssssssstttttt. Sorry work to do glug glug.
Bomber.
You missed a great day. TM had us in stitches, JP showered us with gifts, Big John offered to share his Desperate Dan pie with us and all the brain dead bloggers (Wolves boohoo boy, MMDP, BigIQRich, A–eOle Gold and Black,LCW and a cast of idiots) came to pay homage to HB, they love his irony, and his goldy, well anything shiny really. I love our site. Keep the surrealism live.
Bomber - can’t believe i gave it away with such a mistake.
I should have said JP LOANED us a ticket - with a view to us buying it later in the season for a highly over inflated price, with JP having the option of making us buy it for a further three years and with a further year in his favour.
Now that would have been believable….
p.s - i like the way you type a widget noise - very accurate.
wbabomber.
I was with Happy_ baggie too, I enjoyed it that much, I can’t remember a lot about it and, I lost my free tickets!
I have obviously upset JP with my Honour Bomber campaign!!!
Therealbully, is it true HB is 6ft 9, and built like a house, and eats Wolves fans for brecky, lunch and dinner???
I have also heard he has looks to rival George Clooney, and the sophistication of James Bond.
And he supports the Baggies, some guys get all the luck!!!
Anyway i am finished for the day, Mandy and a few of the promo fashion models are here to give me and a few mates a lift upto Preston. I wasnt going to go but she insisted, apparently her twin sister lives there and realllllly wants to meet me. Tat ahhhhhh!!!!
19 - more like Rosemary clooney and jenny bond !!
The rest was pretty accurate.
Have fun with mandy and Mindy (mandy’s sister) - you lucky blogger !
Bomber
Prepare yourself for a tale of lies
and deceit, as told shamedly by our fellow Baggie & blogger TRB.
He states BFJ offered us some of his pie……LIES DAMN LIES i tell you.
The real truth is,
whilst we were sipping on our Verve Clicquot or glugging in Happy`s case,
JP informed us that BFJ is in fact
a michelin two star chef (something to do with tyres anyway) and that he would be
“creating” a feast to do justice
to fans of our stature,
consequently…we ended up at McDonalds over the road.
What a season were having! a few ups and downs with injuries and suspensions. we are the best team in the championship!its nice to see us play attacking football rather than defensive football! why did mowbray sign leon barnett he is useless we got alby cesar and pele at the back who do a wonderful job good luck lads 13 leauge games away from the prem
Is Baggie Steward for real or is he just one of HBs pseudonyms. If real, get off, you don’t pay to get in and shouldn’t be watching the match but making me sit down. If HB this is your most surreal yet.
TRB - not me this time… in fact I’m rather hurt that you think i would a) critisise one of our players in this manner and b) ignore all the punctuation keys.
Actually - what pseudonyms ?? Don’t believe the dingle hype - I don’t (usually) hide behind another name unless I’m a mickey taker !
Ye the football we are playing just leaves you with that feeling why you fell in love with football! Theres never a dull game. I think mowbray is the man and since he took over I have loved every minute! This blog is right about our fans as you may have noticed my comments on the albion/wolves blog. :)our fans deserve it and I think its a good time to be a baggie and over the next few seasons will be great. Mowbray will take the club forward, hopefuly establish us in the prem and if he does it he’s gonna do it in style! Boing Boing!
I think not if but when we go up we will be a similar team to tottenham but perhaps with a little less quality and a few less points. Spurs are mid table but have scored 3rd most goals ‘I think’ in the prem on 40 odd goals, playing pretty attacking football. I see ourselves continuing our style we wont just abbandon it and go back to the robson way, doing the same sort of thing but beng around 13th-16th place. And instead of taking a few 4-0 romps by top 4 teams I think they’ll be 6-3’s and 5-2’s etc. But hey, what a way to play! And we will have a better chance than we’ve ever had to stay up, even an extension on the ground to a 33,000 is in the pipeline. I hope Ime right in saying a new albion era is coming. It wont be like in the late 70’s which unfortunatley Ime too young to remember but it is probably be the closest were gonna get.
Without argument West Brom are the best team in the division and deserve to go up ~ no question about it.(And this is from a Wolves fan!). However why are the gates at the Hawthorns so diabolical? Only 22,000 again on Saturday and I understand over 2,000 or so travelled down from Burnley meaning less than 20,000 Albion supporters bothered to turn up! The only time you get above 24,000 is when you have kids for a quid or when the Wolves pop over. I know our lot are appalling in comparison but at least we get 23/24,000 to watch rubbish without any concessions thanks to the tight fisted Jez. A mate of mine who has a season ticket in the Halfords Lane stand is appalled at the lack of support. I see someone has written about building a 33,000 stadium. Hells bells if you can only manage 20,000 to watch the current brand of exciting football, what a waste of money that would be and a white elephant if there ever was one. Albion fans ~ not good enough!
