Hooligan walks free from court again

wd2573251-ian-dimmack.jpgA Wolves hooligan who avoided prison after hurling stones at police during derby day violence has again walked free from court, despite breaching the terms of a suspended sentence.

Ian Dimmack gave himself up to officers after being pictured in an Express & Star gallery of hooligans. The 24-year-old was part of one of the worst outbreaks of football violence in Wolverhampton for years.

An army of yobs hit the streets following Wolves’ 3-0 FA Cup defeat to West Brom-wich Albion a year ago.

Eleven police officers were injured as bricks, bollards and road signs were thrown and gas canisters let off during running battles.

In September, Dimmack, of Wodensfield Tower, Wednesfield, was given an eight-month jail term, suspended for two years, by Recorder Peter Carr at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

He was also barred from all football matches for three years after admitting violent disorder, ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work, made the subject of a 12-month supervision order and warned if he missed any appointments he faced jail.

But Wolverhampton Crown Court, sitting in Brierley Hill yesterday, heard that Dimmack missed a work commitment and a meeting with his supervising officer.

He admitted breaching the suspended sentence.

Miss Blondel Thompson, for Dimmack, told the court he had “lacked motivation” to attend the appointments because he was using cannabis at the time, which he has since stopped.

She said he had persuaded probation officers he was now fully committed to the programme.

Recorder Barbara Carter ordered that Dimmack’s supervision order be ex-tended to 18 months and said any further breaches would not be treated so sympathetically.

She told him: “You were very fortunate in the learned judge imposing a suspended sentence for what was a very serious offence. However, I am not going to activate the suspended sentence.”
