Walsall are in talks with Michael Ricketts to keep him at the Banks’s Stadium until at least the end of the season.
The former England striker’s loan from Oldham is up at the end of the month and his clinical finishing and experience have been invaluable for the Saddlers during his three months at the club.
Richard Money has stated that the player is highly unlikely to return to Boundary Park, particularly following his winning goal against the Latics in December and the signs are that Walsall will look to complete a permanent move in the next seven days.
“Michael’s loan is up on January 30,” Money said. “We’re trying to negotiate something at the moment, but as ever with transfers, they’re not easy. We’re in discussions with Michael and his agent at the minute.”
Both Ricketts and Tommy Mooney are expected back from injury for the visit of Gillingham this weekend to boost the squad.
Scott Dann and Ishmel Demontagnac are missing at the weekend due to suspension and the manager also expects Dan Fox to tie up his move to Coventry, leaving the squad short on numbers.

It will be good if we can keep Ricketts until the end of the season at least, I’m led to believe he wants to stay and then go from there, still want to see more from him though. He only ever seems to play in 2nd gear, although he has bagged 5 goals.
How does that leave the squad short E&S?
We have Mooney, Ricketts, Dobson and Boetien back and have Dann and Ismel out (4-2 = +2) !!!!!!
Yes of course Scott will be missed, but Roper is perfectly capable of standing in, especially if Money puts Dobson in front of Ropes and Gerrard.
Would like to Boetien at left back.
COME ON THE SADDLERS….Back to winning ways this weekend please?
I’m not looking forward to Roper playing centre-back.
Why not? He did perfectly well against Milwall.
Ropes has been patient, whats more, he’s totally reliable. He deserves his chance. Lets hope Ricketts does stay. Although we have not seen him at his best, he does give that something to the front line when he plays.
I didn’t think he played well against Millwall and he has been inconsistent for the reserves this season.
I thought Roper was poor against Milwall and he had a nightmare against Oldham earlier in the season at home. He’s been inconsistent for the reserves, its one area that I think will need to strengthen in the near future. My opinion anyway.
Odd to criticise a defender in a 0-0 draw
