Wolves boss Mick McCarthy believes Saturday’s win has given the team a much-needed injection of confidence.
The Wolves manager was reporting a more positive atmosphere among the players after they halted a streak of winless league games that stretched back to December.
McCarthy has also re-affirmed his belief that there is no major surgery needed at Wolves during the rest of the January transfer window.
The Express & Star understands the Molineux men are unlikely to make another signing before the month ends.
The boss is now urging the players to take that feel-good factor into the next few games.
“I can’t visibly say the mood is more buoyant or bubbly than it is normally but individually they all feel a bit better about themselves,” he said.
“We all do, me included, that’s what happens when you win.
“We work in that bizarre business that three points makes such a difference between a pleasant weekend and one that’s absolutely lousy.
“They are all feeling a bit better about themselves that?s for sure.”

I THINK WE NEED ONE MORE PLAYER JUST TO ADD COMPETITION TO THE MIDFIELD OTHER THAN THAT I AGREE. WE HAVE BREEN AND CRADDOCK ALMOST BACK FULLTIME! AND ENOUGH STRIKERS TO KEEP 3 TEAMS GOING. IT WAS A SPELL OF BAD LUCK AND NOW I THINK WE CAN PUSH ON! THEY JUST NEED TO PROVE/FOLLOW UP THIS WIN AT THE HARDEST PLACE….MOLINEUX!
Oh dear! We still really need a couple of defenders if we are now going to play more attacking football. We have some good defenders but lack pace against the better sides. This was apparent last season but continues to be a low priority. I hope we are surprised by at least one more signing.

OK just bring back Daniel Jones to support Jarvis at LB Foley will support Kites on the right, Edwards and Gibson/Henry in the middle and Keogh and SE-B/Freddie up front, just need to keep the old men in the middle of the back 4 fit and i can see another journey into the play-offs.

How can mick say a few weeks back when he dropped FE that he didnt put in a shift? When we can all clearly see that s ward and bothroyd are playing.
In my gold and black eyes and many other gold and black eyes can see that s ward is not a good player he looks lost out there. Should never have signed him at all the irish league is completley diff football than to our league. S ward to go come the end of january

If you have the intelligence which from what i can gather you do not, any how my point is that the irish league is massivly different to any of the english leagues. well maybe the blue squares premier league is the same nether the less its a massive step up for any 1 and s.ward is NOT 1 of those players.

In the last 12 league matches the only teama we have beaten are Preston, Colchester & Scunthorpe who just happen to be the 3 bottom teams in the league!
We still need a quality centre-half with pace and a good left-back!
Defence is still frail. What about this Walsal kid? Collins? That bloke they signed from Palace? Baffled.
Can’t believe we aren’t looking for cover in defence. Breen and Craddock are quality players with tons of experience and Ward has done well after his initial struggles. We could still do with another centre back to improve the squad.
Maybe MM’s playing it canny to add to the feelgood factor when we do sign someone?
As for who plays on Saturday with the new boys unavailable, well I suspect we will return to S. Ward, Elliott and Bothroyd. So it’s bye bye FA cup for another year! I suppose it gives more time to concentrate on improving our league position.
I note that none of our “main” strikers is included in the reserve squad today so no clues there! Breen is in the squad though and I note Elliott Bennett is too, back from a good loan spell at Crew. Wouldn’t mind seeing him getting a chance on the right in place of Elliott but it will never happen.

So mm has told the players to take the “feel good factor”, well thats great. But it doesnt change the fact, that there is to much coaching from mm during games, the players need to be encouraged to think for themselves and know the plan BEFORE the game starts. We still have this situation when a player runs forward with the ball and then has to look around to the manager, to see what he has to do with it ! That cant be correct. Come on MM let the transfer of responsibility move to the players, save the coaching for the training ground.

Love how everyone is so quick to criticise despite the story and the headline being nothing more than speculation and rumour. There is nothing from MM to suggest that there will be no more signings, just a claim from “a source”, who is more than likely the bog cleaner.
You gotta laugh… last week MM was clinging on to his job by his fingertips.. the crowd were booing AND fighting on the terraces and there have been nearly 1000 post calling for MM to be sacked.
You then beat the worst team in the league - and MM reckons you have all the team you need.
Now when did I hear this last - oh yeah, just before the season started - and look what happened then.

Sorry for sounding so negative but the fact is it was a win against a poor side! Lets wait and see what the next few weeks throws up before we get excited that the promotion push is on. I still reckon we need another CB as well
Does MM know anything about defence.If I was him I would think about strengthening ours very deeply how can he say we are good enough when we are falling down the table,one step forward and two steps back,not promotion form MM.Open your eyes and act not talk.I still think we should get Allardyce in before its too late.Show some ambition Mr.Morgan.
We have just beaten a team with average gates of 7000, and second from bottom, so lets not get carried away. I agree with all those who say wait until we have played Watford & Stoke, and see how our centre halves manage - they may be just sufficient to get us out of this division..
As for S Ward, he hasn`t even had the benefit of years at a decent academy, which makes it even more ludicrous to play him ahead of our own graduates.
If the reports that our new owner was not happy with team selection and tactics were true, and we don`t get promoted then MM will surely go in the summer.

is the phrase used i wouldnt put it past mccarthy to not make any signings some of his decisions have been strange to say the least

we do need to strengthen we need cover at left back and a centre half with a little bit of pace but we have 24 hour call backs on Daniel Jones, and Mark Little if we need to get cover quickly
I agree we shouldnt get carried away we won 2-0 against a team in a relegation scrap but if it gives the team confidence which is what we need and has been lacking especially in front of goal.
We will have to see how we perfom at the weekend and for the next few games to see if this is the turning point we have all been looking for

I am really surprised and disappointed that we are not going to get in any new defenders. I would have thought a new centre back and a new left back were needed. Craddock and Breen are not young and we have seen how long it now takes them to recover from injuries. Michael Gray is a similar age.
Surely we cannot let Daniel Jones remain out on loan if we are not signing anyone new.
A fit Rob Edwards would help create competition but I think we need more. I hope we persevere with team selections like we had on Saturday where we had three positive midfielders instead of the pre-occupation with protecting the defence that we have had for much of this season. Being more positive in our approach is great in improving the entertainment level, but can only be a good move in terms of results if we are confident in the defence.

I saw a totally different team and a completly different midifeld on Saturday. It can only boad well for the future.

I’m with Wolves86 (34). Mick McCarthy’s not saying he doesn’t want someone, just that he doesn’t think we’re going to get anybody who’s worth buying.
McCarthy probably wanted Danny Gabbidon, Gary Cahill and/or Liam Ridgewell, but Steve Morgan and Jez Moxey couldn’t or wouldn’t deliver. We must have at least a couple of new central defenders before we get to the Prem; but we do have Darren Ward, Gary Breen, Jody Craddock and Neill Collins. It’s no use buying someone who’s not better than them–and maybe that’s not so easy with our self-imposed budget restrictions.
The same goes for left-back, no use buying someone who won’t be up to the Prem. Until we do, Michael Gray is probably good enough to fill in, backed up by Mark Little and Collins.
Unless we’re really desperate, we don’t want to buy anybody from now on who won’t be able to hack it in the Prem.

“Signings unlikely” means no sign of the Premiership, no sign of a win against a creditable team, no sign of a recognisable strategy, no sign of anything at all in fact.

Confirmation in print of my previously stated view that M.M. has settled for staying in the Championship this season. Bit sad really. If we were to get promoted via the play offs we would only then be in the same position we were last time we went up. That is left at the back of the queue picking up those players not wanted by other promoted clubs and having to pay exorbitant prices at that.

I feel Wolves have young players who are just waiting for a chance but they don’t appear to get it. It is very sad and waste of talent such as Mark Davis, Daniel Jones, Gobern and Little. Please, please just give them a chance and Wolves will be great again.

Seriously, it is a big change to come to cold old England from sunny old Brazil, also the language factor, his mate who came with him was sent back early too, perhaps it just didn’t fit right for him.
