Albion get Dorrans go-ahead

Albion trialist Graeme Dorrans has been given the green light to leave Livingston – but Baggies manager Tony Mowbray has played down talk of a January transfer.

Dorrans arrived at The Hawthorns yesterday to begin a four-day training stint with the Baggies after already attracting interest from Scottish Premier League clubs including Rangers and Dundee United.

And Livingston boss Mark Proctor has said Dorrans can leave for the right price.

“Albion will be a good environment for Graeme,” said Proctor.

“We don’t want him to leave, he’s a talented boy, our top goal-scorer, but if the right bid comes in and it suits all parties, then so be it.

“There has been a lot of interest in Graeme and it is an exciting time for the lad.

“But if he doesn’t want to go, all well and good, he is contracted here for another 18 months.

“He is going down there to see what they can offer, if he likes it and they like him. He’ll come back on Thursday before our next game.

“I rate him very highly and there have been some Scottish clubs in for him, but the fees being mentioned are certainly not enough, so to get his true value he might have to go down south.”

Mowbray admitted Dorrans is an exciting talent who has been compared favourably to current Baggies stars Chris Brunt and James Morrison.

But the Albion boss still believes a deal in the current transfer window is unlikely.

Mowbray said: “I haven’t seen him but Mark Venus (assistant manager) has seen him once or twice and his name is always top of the goalscoring charts in the First Division in Scotland.

“The manager worked with Brunt and Morrison when they were youth team players and he feels the lad has similar potential.

“It (a January signing) might be unlikely, but there’s no harm in having a look at him to see the potential that’s there. If he does well we’ll monitor him on a weekly basis.”
