Drivers are hurt in smash

Two drivers were injured after a taxi and a car were involved in a crash near Aldridge town centre.

A pedestrian crossing was also damaged when the vehicles crashed at the junction with Paddock Lane and Tynings Lane on the A454 Walsall Road.

Watch Commander John Kempson, of Walsall fire station, said the taxi driver had to be cut free from the damaged private hire cab. He was not carrying passengers when the accident happened at about 7.50pm yesterday.

He said both male drivers were taken to Manor Hospital afterwards.

Mr Kempson said a special mat was used to soak up fuel which had spilled on the carriageway during the smash.

Fire crews from Bloxwich assisted.

West Midlands police spokeswoman Hilary Hopker said a 17-year-old youth was arrested following the incident, for stealing petrol. Street lights contractor Amey has repaired the pelican crossing.

how did the crash happen in the first place. Was it the pedestrian, was it the taxi driver or was it the driver of the other car.
