Albion blog: Cup fever

Dean KielyTuesday was very entertaining, and there is nothing better than winning on penalties, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.

We now wait to see if the extra time played has had a negative effect on our players in preparation for Saturday’s visit of Cardiff.

Cardiff are in good form after going through a sticky patch, and will be hoping for a repeat of when we met earlier in the season.

We then have a whole week to prepare for our trip to Peterborough, and if I am honest I am starting to get gripped by cup fever, Peterborough have given us 4,300 tickets and it represents a large percentage of their capacity, and gives us a great chance to progress further in the competition.

On the transfer front things are still pretty quiet, I was hoping we would have tied deals up for one or two of our players on loan, particularly Bednar.

I think this guy is the real deal, he works so hard for the team and is scoring goals regularly, and I only expect him to get better.

He is almost the exact opposite of Miller. Miller has pace and strength in abundance but needs to learn to work harder when we are not in possession of the ball, hopefully he will learn from watching Phillips and Bednar.

Another of our loan stars is Cesar, and it is still unclear as to how highly Mowbray rates him, we must remember he is a player who is still learning the English game.

We hear that Jeremy Peace has been in negotiations to sign Danek the goalkeeper we had on trial last week, and we wait with baited breath.

To keep you updated on the Honour Bomber campaign, the Express and Star ran an article in Tuesday’s newspaper, and I was also invited onto the Tom Ross show on Monday night to talk about Friday’s blog.

Click here to add your support to the Honour Bomber campaign.

BRMB/Capital Gold are interested in throwing their support behind the idea, Tom was very supportive and wanted to know how he can help get the ball rolling and I would like to thank him for his kind words.

I am still awaiting an official reply from Jeremy Peace, but his PA has assured me he will reply by mail.

I have also been contacted by a local artist and lifelong Baggies fan that would be interested, and more importantly honoured, in carrying out any work commissioned and has supplied some important information on the actual cost and logistics (many thanks Kenny Howell).

So as you can see it has been a busy old week, I will see you in the queue early Monday morning, cup fever, I love it.

I have cup fever also. Sweating on our league results. Sure if we loose or draw to Cardiff we have a full week to prepare for Peterboroughs cup final against us. That could end in an expensive replay, and how many will turn up for that. We will then be playing Preston on Tuesday and Burnley on Saturday. Those of us who go to full priced league matches will have noticed how jaded we were at home to Coventry and away to Ipswich. Last year the cup run ruined our automatic promotion chance. If it happens again this year, will we have the same players and manager for another promotion push next year. Maybe a cup run will be great next year if we are mid table championship with nothing else to play for.

    Tividale baggie,

Is it the weather that is getting you so down??
We can acheive promotion and have a good cup run, the difference between this season and the last, is that we now have more strength in depth.
I know it is natural for us Baggie fans to be pesimistic, but predicting mid table in the Championship twelve months from now!!!!
who do you think we are?? Wolves??

You are right about penalties. I remember playing Sheff Wed and after 5 pens we were 3 0 down. We then needed the next five all to go our way and they did and we went on to win in sudden death. At the end as the ground errupted I remember simply slumping back in my seat. It was without doubt the most stressful few minutes I have ever spent in the Golden Palace. I think it is the only time that a team has come back from three down to win. Good luck at Posh and if we can get past Watford perhaps we might meet again.

I bet your ticket office manager is sweating aswell, top of the table, best team in the division, sweet passing football, can’t even fill half the ground. Ive always said the sandwell public dont want a good team, I feel sorry for you genuine fans who support through think and thin, these casual fans are letting you down.

Hey boys if you go over to the dark side (Wolves blog) they are all turning on one another, i think they should organise a meeting at a pub and sort it all out!!!
I will be the one sat at the bar with a wry smile.

Tividale Baggie you should think yourself lucky you don’t have to put up with the dross we have to watch week in, week out. It wouldn’t surprise me if you had a good cup run and got promoted…good luck to you. If my old man’s reading this……you can buy me a pint tonight for accepting my pre season prediction was completely wrong

Well done on the Bomber campaign, we should have learnt our lesson when the King died but I suppose that was totally unexpected. Those who remember them will know that it went together like fish and chips, ‘who scored the goals?’ ‘Astle and Brown.’ Doesn’t the present team remind you of the sixties team? we were just as likely to lose 4-3 one week and win 6-1 the next, great to watch, terrible for the heart.
    Tiviedale Baggie.
We’re in the middle of one of our most exciting seasons for years, be a devil, cheer up and you never know you might even enjoy it. I’ve followed this club for 46 years and know that the good times are thin on the ground, make the most of it while it’s here.
    Wolves booboy.
I suppose you’re having a go at our faint hearted supporters and I’m sorry to say I have to agree. I sometimes wonder if we deserve a Premier team (no doubt if we beat Peterboro’ and draw Man U in round 5 all these die hards will be back and clamouring for tickets.) On the subject of the Charlton game, I’m a Brummie Rd Ender and would like to say well done the Smethwick End for creating such a great atmosphere by singing all night when the half empty ground could have made it a very damp squib otherwise.

You get 11,000 at home to Morecambe and 15,000 at home to Cambridge……..we get 14,000 against Cardiff and 12,500 against Charlton…….and your point is?!! Muppet!

think we’ll leave the “letting us down again” comments with you dingles……….

Firstly, thanks for your kind words and recognition.

However the dig about, cant even fill half the ground is a somewhat
    spurious comment.
You are of course referring to the
    midweek attendance.

Recent history has shown that the early rounds of the FA cup,
    (depending on the opposition)
gates tend to be very much on the wane.
I am not certain of Wolves attendance for the Cambridge tie,
but i do know it was considerably
    below this seasons average,
and that they (Cambridge) had a very large contingent that made your gate appear half decent.

    Finally
please don`t get carried away with the notion that only the Baggies have casual fans.

    Regards.

Noble actions on the Bomber campaign
    well done mate.

100% agree, get Bednar signed up before someone else does,
Miller too, To-Mo just needs to work on his “team” ethic.

I have to ask you and all of my fellow Baggies.
I have been away all week,
on my return last evening, i popped into my local, where i was informed by a chap, that on these pages fans had been calling for Mowbrays dismissal!!

Now….have i been in a very long sleep and woken up on April the 1st
(that might explain the ZZ Top type beard now in residence on my face)

or have some of our neighbours been trying their hand at mischief ?

Wolves bobby has a very short memory. In the old division 4 when you were there , you struggled to get 5000. Wolverhamton has a very much bigger catchment area. Going north the next club is stoke 30 miles away . Having said that you only got 22000 last week of which half of them had gone by the end.I wonder why.

Afternoon mate. Nice to see your Bomber campaign gathering pace.

Thanks for giving me a bit of backing on the other side… comes to something when a Baggie is defending my honour!

Like you, I write my thoughts but hopefully they are not to far from what the majority think. We have scored about a quarter of the goals you have in the league and I’m just a bit fed up as I think most of the gold ‘n’ black should be.

Anyway, good luck in the cup and keep up the good work.

It’s a well known fact that Albion supporters are connoisseurs of the game and take some convincing, but we’re getting there.
Unlike you Dingles who will blindly turn up to watch them hang the washing out.
Don’t worry about us Booby, keep watching the dross !
