New boy David Edwards is backing his goal instinct to help Wolves lose their lowest scorers in the Championship tag.
The 21-year-old midfielder is hoping for an immediate debut against Scunthorpe on Saturday after completing his £625,000 move from Luton at the start of the week.
And he is confident he can play his part in ending a season-long struggle for goals by last season’s play-opff semi-finalists whic hhas seen Wolves score just 24 from 27 games.
“The manager went through the stats for the Palace game and I’d like to think I could help change things,” says the former Shrewsbury player.
“I always seem to get two or three chances a game from trying to get in the right positions.
“I don’t always put them away but I’ve got a knack of getting in right place so hopefully I can start scoring goals here if I get my chance.
“My game isn’t all about getting into the box – I like to make diagonal runs into the channels where you can get into positions to cross the ball.
“But my main aim is just to get in the team first and foremost and hopefully make sure I can chip in with a few goals, but if I create a goal, that’s as good as scoring one.”
Edwards also believes supporters should be buoyed by the continuing high spirits of manager Mick McCarthy’s squad despite their slide down the table.
He added:“Coming in and seeing the spirit, you wouldn’t know it was a team who had been struggling for form. I spoke to Kevin Foley before I came here.
“I’m quite friendly with him from our days at Luton together and he said the game last Saturday was the story of the last six weeks or so – we haven’t been able to score goals and we’ve been punished for it.
“But they have welcomed me with open arms and they do seem like a really nice set of lads.”

Like a few Wolves fans i’m tired of “PLEDGES”. Having been a fan of sports for a long time i’ve noticed that the better they are the less they say, they don’t have to talk it up.
“Put up or shut up”
“Coming in and seeing the spirit, you wouldn’t know it was a team who had been struggling for form”
…So all the booing thats destroying players confidence actually isn’t? maybe its not loud enough
Or is Foley was just overexited about his formula 1 win.
…err, so what happens when they lose the joyous team spirit?
Anyway…Edwards sounds like a man with a plan. Like him already.

Er…
Wasn’t this story out earlier in the week?
Congats to Wolves for keeping their transfer dealings so tight lipped that the papers are having trouble coming up with new stories!
Come on, surely you can dream up some juicy transfer gossip about people we’re not going to sign… I hear Drogba wants out of Chelsea, surely there’s something in that with us needing a goalscorer so much!!!
Good luck to Edwards. He at least seems to have a positive attitude. Not too sure how many goals he’ll contribute (doesn’t seem to have a great scoring record in his career) but if he has the confidence to have a shot when he sees a chance then it will be a start. If he can get the ball on target, even better!
Same old story, different day.
E&S change the record please, this one’s stuck!
Good luck to you son and lets hope you deliver
As for the E&S if you haven’t got anything new or interesting to say then please keep quiet!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not difficult to make such a bold claim when joining this team of no-hopers is it? A one legged man with a broken foot could out score the existing mick muppet squad. Top of the league and we’re havin’ a loff!
I like the cut of his jib
Good on ya son. Young Edwards please report the coaching methods to us over the next 3 weeks. May turn out our poor football and losing our way could tie in with the loss our last coach due to other commitment’s. Also having born leaders out through injury has not helped our young lads! However, once a Wolf always a Wolf, come on ya Wolves?
wolves new boy in goal - pledge… is MM replacing Hennesey now ?
I know he plays people out of position, but …..
