Wolves keen on Walsall star

Walsall star Daniel FoxWolves have joined a growing list of clubs interested in signing Walsall full-back Daniel Fox as his transfer saga took a new twist today.

The defender, who is also wanted by Championship strugglers Colchester, has asked for more time to weigh up his transfer window options.

But it is clear that interest in the 21-year-old left-back is gathering momentum with the Saddlers’ neighbours now also pondering a move for the former Everton player.

Walsall, who have left Fox out of their last two games, today denied some claims that Wolves had had a bid accepted.

Colchester are still the only club to have struck a deal with the League One outfit, a deal which with add-ons is thought to be worth the best part of £500,000.

Fox met with Layer Road officials earlier this week but has since asked for more time to consider his options and he was due for talks with Saddlers boss Richard Money today to establish his player’s thoughts in the build-up to Walsall’s League One clash with Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

But the prospect of Wolves now entering the fray is bound to catch his attention and with Leeds also in the background, a decision on Fox’s future could drag on for a while yet.

Money said today: “We left out Daniel last Saturday because we accepted the bid from Colchester on the morning of the game and it had dragged on until Tuesday – but I hope things will be settled one way or another.

“It’s difficult to know precisely what is in his mind until I’ve sat down and had a good chat with him. But I can confirm other clubs are interested.”

Interesting. Seen this lad play a couple of times, looks good on the ball and has a fair amount of pace. Could be a very good addition to the squad however i thought the colchester deal was as good as done??

Be pleased to have you at the club although no great loss if he doesn’t join as micheal gray has been the best wolves player (accept Hennessey of course) for the past few games

Come on wolves time to start firing

  4. rich5wolves said:

we have the quality in the squad to do well in this league, just not playing our players out of position.

Shuttup baggie we’ll all laugh when were playing you again next year and smash you 4-1 again, foxy would walk into your squad, to the rest of the people on here, he’s wana the best players ive seen down the banks for years, has a great left foot, quite abit of skill, very calm and collect, no team has ever came to us yet and had the beating of him, that includes leeds, forest, swansea, doncaster, carlisle, leeds have been ripping our arm off for him but we just wont sell him to them :-)

Come on Mick, pull out the stops. Shell out the cash and get this lad down here. It’s obvious he’d rather stay local than relocate.

We need someone to replace that useless lump (Gray). Good at attacking, non-existent at defending.

Cerainly a position that needs strengthening. A bit worrying that he “has asked for more time to weigh up his transfer window options”.

Is he keen on a move to Wolves or not?

just offer them 250k with further 500k if we promoted! simple no other teams will match that and if promoted whats 500k when you got 60M+

Not seen this lad play but what i’ve read on here and heard off a few Walsall supports, he is a quality player.

Let hope we can get a couple of Centre Backs in and we should have our defence sorted, then we can start to sort our midfield.

Through think and thin, up the Wolves.

Walsall wouldn’t take that offer, as there would be a chance (no matter whether we was top of the league or where we’re now)that we might not get promoted and that would leave Walsall with a very poor deal. The sort of deal you’re talking about is rarely struck, despite what many papers suggest.

I think if we were after Fox we would have signed him by now. £500k for a young left back aint bad.

I think the real target is Elokobi and were waiting for Fox to finally move to Colchester. Apparently the Elokobi deal is in place, Fox not making his mind up is causing the delay.

But where is the left winger we desparety need?
We cant keep playing Ward there for the rest of the season!

  27. Rutland Wolf said:

How many playes have we got in the first team squad now - 44 and counting. That speaks volumes for this manager. O’Neil at Villa has a squad of what - 25 max. How can you work with 44 players - The good news is we’ve got 4 teams to everyone else one. MM - is definately totally bonkers.

    26 - good post.

  35. Booster said:

The bit about him being local is a red herring folks. He is a scouse lad (ex Everton) and the word is he still commutes from Liverpool.
He’s had a good half a season in league one this term but he is untried at second tier level and I fear some Wolves fans may expect too much from him.(What? Wolves fans with inflated expectations? Shurely shome mishtake?)

    15) Why do people want Paul Ince? and why do they think he’s Wolves through and through? Im not convinced personally.

Regarding Keegan and ‘fanpower’ the best contrast would be to re-appoint Graham Turner.

He’s provining himself in the lower leagues again and he IS Wolves through and through!

I want Paul Ince because he’s got potential,is passionate about the club, can attract top players , will be respected and won’t put up with second best!

An interesting other option would be Darren Ferguson whose Peterboro side - by all accounts - play the best football in their division…better than the MK Dons!

Either way, I don’t want MM cos he’s got no potential, has no affinity with Wolves and I’m not convinced has the respect of the players. I don’t know whether Keegan will be a success at Newcastle but they’ll go from being a side that plays no football to a side that will entertain.

If we stay with MM, we’ll be a poor side playing conservative football.

Incidentally, leaving aside our own prejudices, does anyone know a fan of any other club who would want McCarthy if he was available!? No? I rest my case!

I don’t hold any antipathy towards Wolves fans I would like to see your team get to the play offs I want as many Midlands teams in the Prem as possible so I fail to understand the need for purile terms such as used by you totally pointless

I saw Walsall at Gillingham and Leyton orient and if he’s the same fullback as played there he would be an excellent buy. At Orient he was probably the best player. The ball seemed to stick to him in every tackle and he was so cool the temperasture in the stands dropped ten degrees. mmmmmmmmmm

walsall mad man i know we’re a second rate team but you’re a third rate team so i think your boy fox will have no hesitation in signing for us as we are just slightly a bigger club than walsall but i do always look out for walsalls results as they’re everyones second team in the mids so good luck for the season hope you can cope without your left back and still get promoted to the second tier by which time we’ll be back where we belong in the prem and a first rate team again “UP THE WOLVES”

Its rich coming from Walsall fans that we are fickle - How many of your fans were giving Richard Money stick at the start of the season? & How many came forward and backed the manager?

Most football clubs are the same - fans demand more - especially the ones that regularly pay - simple really!

We dont see why this lad Fox is any better than Charlie Mulgrew who plays left back at U21 level for Scotland? Do we really need another left back when we have M Gray who did well in recent games, Charlie Mulgrew who plays at U21 level for Scotland but cant get a look in under MM and D Jones who is doing really well at Northampton?

With regards to left wing/ midfield - M Jarvis is very good - and is L Gobern anywhere near fit again? S Elliott did well on right wing yesterday - But we could really do with a centre half with some pace

D Edwards looks like a good prospect - lets hope MM keeps this team together and gives them a chance to gel together - But sadly it looks like Freddie doesnt fit in with MM

    UP THE WOLVES!!!
