Skipper faces scan on hurt hip

Gareth Barry Gareth Barry has handed Villa an injury scare by hurting his hip in training.

The captain was booked in for a scan today on the problem he suffered yesterday amid fears he could be in line for his first injury lay-off in more than three years.

Barry pulled up during a session at Bodymoor Heath and today’s tests will establish the seriousness of the problem, with Martin O’Neill’s men due to go to Liverpool on Monday.

Star performer Barry last missed a match through injury when Villa went to Arsenal in December 2004.

As Barry awaited the results of today’s scans, fellow defender Gary Cahill looked closer than ever to a Villa Park exit.

O’Neill today revealed he had received bids for defender Gary Cahill and would decide the player’s future by the end of the week.

Birmingham, Derby, Wigan and Sheffield United are among a clutch of clubs who have been linked with the 22-year-old.

Blues were reported to have had a £4m offer rising to £5m turned down.

O’Neill said: “There have been bids for Gary, but I’m not confirming anything about the clubs. There’s more than a lot of interest in Gary.”

O’Neill also confirmed he had allowed young midfielder Isaiah Osbourne to join Leicester on a month’s loan - when he is fit.

We shouldnt be looking to sell a prospect like Gary Cahill. I n my opinion Gary has more potential than Zat Knight, who in my opinion has not set the world on fire.

Lets not sell, especially to the others.
