Boss turns to ProZone for support

keoghheader1.jpgMick McCarthy today turned to ProZone to show Wolves are not as bad as they seem.

The Wolves boss is still baffled at Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat against Crystal Palace and has turned to the football analysis experts to reveal his team are getting everything right but for their finishing.

“I said after the game on Saturday I didn’t know how we lost it,” said McCarthy.

“But they scored three goals and we didn’t. They took their chances.

“In terms of us being so bad, apparently we had 19 shots, they had 10.

“We had nine on target they had six. Possession, 59 per cent against 41 per cent in our favour.

“Crosses: 36 to 12, penalty area entries: 48 us, 24 them. Final third entries: 93 us, 80 them, passes completed: 345 for us against 117.

“It makes no difference because we’ve lost but in terms of us being so bad I think it shows that it wasn’t quite like that.

“It does show how stats can lie - anyone who saw these stats would not believe a 3-0 defeat for us.

“It also emphasises not everything is wrong, because unfortunately when you’ve had the run we’ve had, everything gets analysed, criticised and nothing’s right, from the very top down to the bottom, but that’s not the case.

“Make no mistake, Palace produced a good away performance and took their chances, all credit to them.”

The boss added: “I don’t want anyone giving it, ‘McCarthy bemoans his luck’ because I don’t do that.

“The first goal was a great strike but we defended it poorly, we were too deep.

“The second goal came from a shot going nowhere - not even going to reach Wayne Hennessey - but it hit Neill Collins on the back of the foot and went straight to Scannell.

“And we knew when the third one went in we might as well have blown the whistle because it really was one of those days.”

Even good teams get freak results like this once in a while, & the timing of this one couldn’t have been worse. The new signings gave a bit of hope & belief that MM actually knew what he was doing, & it this was going to be a turning point in the season. Now this one result has become a turning point point for all the wrong reasons. Even pro MM fans…like Blog Nathan..have had enough. Nathan’s not fickle, he’s clearly been pushed beyond his tolerance level. So if the likes of Nathan’s are publically not happy…then who is? Its a spiralling crisis so its no wonder MM is trying hard to convince us that things aren’t as bad as they seem.

One good thing Mick, us fickle fans will soon be back on the bandwagon if you could just come up with a convincing win.

I do think stats lie. I suspect a lot of superiority happened after Palace had sewn the match up and took their foot off the gas. I think Palace always looked like winning the game.
Rather than demonstrating that we weren’t so bad I do think that they should be giving Mick another message. In the 2nd half we moved away from the initial team set up with Henry and Ward on the wings and Bothroyd up front. We later had Jarvis and Bothroyd playing wide and Eastwood and Keogh up front. We also adopted a much more cavalier approach and looked a far better team.
I hope what Mick takes from these stats is a willingness to play more adventurously from the beginning. Lets have Jarvis and Kightly (when fit) on the wings and any two from Ebanks Blake, Eastwood and Keogh up front.
With that set up not only would we win the stats, we would also score goals, win matches and be entertaining.

No i agree with Mick, it’s not that bad, just look at the stats, 9 chances on goal, none scored when palace managed a 50% conversion rate for their six shots on goal.(Mick you are in cloud cuckoo land)

But on another note, Mick is here for the long run whether you like what is happening or not, so we really have got to get behind the team 150%.

We don’t want the 3 M’s to have any reason to have a go at the fans come the end of the season and club has not achieved its objectives set out at the beginning..

I think that was top two by Mick and Morgan. “Promotion is the only Option” or words to that effect.

I can see the headlines now, “THE FANS HAVE ONLY THEMSELVES TO BLAME FOR DAMAGING THE PLAYERS CONFIDENCE”. When we know that the problems have been the bewildering decisions by both the board and the management team.

So come on you Gold and Black Army, lets raise the roof. Then hopefully the players will raise thier performance and give us a goal.

What this stats thing also emphasise (and Mick wont tell you this) is that their shots and crosses were lower in number but better in terms of skill and accuracy. I can cross a ball and I can shoot, but not necessarily up the the standard of a Championship team.

A “penalty are entry” doesn’t mean much does it. A completed pass is not of much use in your own half or in the middle third (but better than giving it away - granted).

I think most people accept that 0-3 was not a fair reflection of the game. So there’s no need to blind us with stats from this particular game. I bet the stats from the Hull game aren’t such pleasant reading.

And if you are going to advertise stats. Let us know which players have had the most shots on target and then divide that by minutes on the pitch. I might be wrong, but I’d say Freddy was top. You need to shoot to score.

Unfortunately Mick, with prozone stats they class a hearder from the half way line as a shot on target.

The problem with our shots on target is that thay are 40 yards out and straight at the goal keeper. Either that or it is that weak the keeper simply catches it or picks it up.

Palace, apart from their wonder third goal, got themselves into dangerous positions and put our defence under the kind of pressure we can only dream about at the moment.

here’s a stat for you- From the last 10 goals conceded, 50% of them have been due to un-neccessary errors or fouls conceded by Neill Collins. Yet you still continue to play him. I’m a centre half in a Sunday league team and if i did that I would on the bench at the very best.

The first goal for palace was due to hot head collins with his arms all around their bloke. The Cambridge goal that almost had you the sack was, surprise surprise, the fault of Collins. The penalty at Albion, Collins. The list is endless.

I don’t need prozone to tell me that this guy is a liabilty.

Of all these so called successful passes. How many were searching balls down the channels searching for space behind their defence?

How many of the so called 36 crosses were fromthe byline with wip and quality?

Of the 93 final third entries, how many were a forward having to receive the ball short in front of four defenders?

Don’t come trying to baffle a public and fanbase with statistics that blatantly do not tell the truth. We are not thick.

Do not treat us with contempt and disrespect after the awful performances you are dishing out. It is not our fault, it is yours and your players. All we want is for our team to show some guile and creativity. Take your ’shift’ mentality back to the dark ages and motivate these players to produce what they’re paid to do.

How dare you try and blame the fans of this great club. We will be here long after you’ve sold your nice country house and gone back up north.

Rubbish stuff MM — the final whimpering bleat of any beleagured manager is using pro-zone stats as an blag to suggest “we wos robbed”.

Virtually all home teams have more possesion and shots on goal — that’s what home teams do!

Crystal Palace worked the ball effectively — bided their time –and struck efficiently and effectively at the right moments.

After 10 minutes — before their first goal — my heart had sunk. They just looked a better team than us.

It’s not about stats — its about the team that looks the most confident. Its the way they work the ball when they have it. It’s about what they do when they don’t have it. It’s about keeping shape — blocking the other team off in defense — and ‘keeping your shape’. CP did all that — it’s not rocket science — it’s text book training ground stuff.

Wolves huffed and puffed — but did not look at all confident, Many of the players did not seem to want the ball — or know what to do with it when they’d got it.
Lack of passing in the middle - lack of movement up front.

Our opponents looked far more capapble of winning the game than us — no matter what the stats say.

I despair — if MM can’t see what every fsn can see — what’s right under his nose — I despair.

But it can be turned around — we’re getting a few new players who have good credentials by all accounts. With fresh blood and a more realistic perspective of our strengths and weaknesses — a change in tactics — players operating in their specialist positions — a few wins — more confidence and we can challenge for the play-offs.

Thsi isn’t a great footballing league — so we can do it. But With this coaching team? I’m not at all confident

What a sickener Keegan going to Toon, was kinda hoping Morgan would find room for his idol.

clutching at straws there MM and wolves

hate to say it but happy baggie is right
“its the ones that go in the net that count”

    prozone protects borderline results initially

    i.e
    champ/lg vs uefa
    euro vs prem
    auto vs playoff
… we are way off ANY!

and lack or evidence of success long term
    but this shows the prior

(plus from experience look at your prozone staff - some are brill others are nowt more than 1st year graduates)

also to note (i stand corrected wolves)
    Jones prozone IN
    Hoddle prozone upgraded
    Moxey/Hoddle prozone downgraded
    McCarthy/Hoddle prozone out
    McCarthy prozone in

    Make up you mind guys
from FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCE PRO-ZONE IS WORTH ITs WEIGHT IN GOLD
    JUST WITHOUT
ONE OF THEIR FIRST CLASS CONSULTANTS ITS WORTHLESS
their experts from the lower klevels are useless !!! i’ve met some
get a good year 4 from wolves uni stats course to interpret the stats with MM and crew

i hope mick is the right man

but i am beginning to doubt it

    6 from 9 for me
    OR ELSE
    big sam for me
(unnatractive or winning i want winning)

MM, by your words you are found out and your words prove you are indeed a muppet.

Far from showing we are good, the prozone stats. prove just how bad we really are. They clearly demonstrate just how inefficient and unproductive we are. As big as those figures appear, they produced 0 goals; ergo, our efficiency/production is 0%.

Passes: Us 345, them 117. If they had completed 345 passes they would have scored 6.

Crosses: Us 36, them 12; our production 0%, theirs 25%. If they had crossed 36 times they would have scored 9.

Since you are a muppet, in future I am going to call you Kermit.

    DUH!

MM turns to Prozone…. WHAT FOR!!! We lost, no matter how you dress it up, we lost, we got out fought, out paced, Warnock tactics were spot on and we were rubbish. What is the point of him banging on about Prozone. No one uses it anymore, they had it at the villa and the 1st day O’Neill took over he had it ripped out of the dressing room. MM you are a hoddle clone, a waste of financial resource, why won’t wolves ever ever learn. You win football matches by picking your best and strongest fit 11. i.e picking players who are in form and are picked on their merits. Drop players like, S Ward, D Ward, Collins, Henry, Elliott, and have faith in adopting a more attacking formation which served us so well last season.

    MICK OUT!!!

As for Go-Karting as a reward for getting spanked 0-3 at home is a real kick in the teeth of hard working fans who pay good money to watch dross! If my staff underperformed, they wouldnt be going go-karting thats for sure!

    MICK OUT!!!

Yes we’re playing bad and I wasn’t happy with the 3-0 defeat but we’ll turn the corner and finish in the playoffs, mark my words.
Then all the moaners will say “I told you we should have stuck with Mick”.
It’s no good changing managers every season because then they have to bring in their own staff and players who then take a few seasons to gel.

Enough stats now mm?
