Albion fans have been inundating the Express & Star to support the suggestion made by our Albion blogger Jarrod Hill to honour Tony ‘Bomber’ Brown.
Season ticket holder Jarrod said the club should rename a stand or erect a statue to the Hawthorns hero.
The call has received unanimous backing from Baggies fans who have been posting on our website.

Tony Brown is Mr Albion. He spent his entire career at The Hawthorns, over 20 years. His record is second to none. I think naming a stand after him would not do him justice,the Hawthorns should be renamed after him.
I would name the smethwick after bomber and the brummie after astle. These stands are were the memories are.Tony Brown deserves to be honoured not just for what he did on the the pitch for 20 years but the tireless work he has and still doing for the supporters.I always remember he would always sighn autographs at spring rd training ground, top bloke and a great ambasdor for our club.

A Legend on the pitch, what a great player. 17 years , 574 appearances with 218 goals illustrates his great service to WBA.
Even now “Bomber” commentates on local radio when his team are playing - he STILL has the passion.
The club should revamp the Halfords and re-name it “The Tony Bomber Brown Stand”
If the East Stand was dedicated to Tony Brown it would enable us all to celebrate his unique legacy for ever. So many of us in the past have stark and vivid memories of shuffling through the turnstiles, clutching a crumpled ten-bob note, to witness yet another masterclass from a sublime striker. Bomber Brown was the business.
One word. Bomber = Legend!
Tony Brown is a legend at the Albion, and thankfully he is a LIVING legend.
How fantastic it would be for him to actually receive and enjoy the honour of having a stand named after him.
His records for us will probably never be beaten in these days of players agents and fast money.
He deserves his tribute - just don’t wait too long to give it to him.

MR ALBION.
Bomber has been retired a number of years now but he still kicks every ball, it hurts him when we lose and loves it when we win.
He is not only one of greatest players that has played at the club he is also one of us….. A FAN!!!!
I agree that players like Bomber Brown should be honoured, you will not see the like again, he did not kiss his shirt badge just before leaving for another club who would pay him a little more, players like him do not exist anymore, I am proud to have seen Bomber play and and hope you baggies do him proud
Honour the Bomber…… NOW!Just listen to his radio coverage to hear the passion he has for our club still. He demonstrated it so marvelously in the pitch and scored some of the greatest goals we have ever seen. Most of all he is a gentleman and a downright lovely bloke. I have sat next to him at a few games and he is a top man.Take note Jeremy and lets have the ‘Bomber Brown stand’something for generations to come to be proud of…and remind us of ‘Aer Tony?

Tony Brown should have, at the very least, a stand named after him. He and The King personified all that was and still is best about our club. I grew up watching them, along with Hope, Kaye, Clark etc., the glorious 70s, the miserable 80s and 90s and the more recent glory days and downers. I fly back from the Forces in Germany to watch whenever I can and the thought of ‘The Bomber’ still sends shiver down my spine.Had he and The King been with any London Club,Man U or Liverpool, how many England caps would they have amassed between them?

I used to watch Tony and his mates-Bobby Hope, Mr. Astle etc.
He was a bit special. How much today?
however even if he was a very good player, it’s a bit daft to talk about statues etc. These should be reserved for the all time greats. Albion have a lot of players in its history just as deserving if Tony is.
Look after him. let him be part of the club. Enjoy his stories but don’t go overboard. There were others as worthy and you can’t honour them all.
Get the bloke on the pitch at the last game of this season. He can present the Championship trophy to Jon Greening who can reciprocate with announcing the renaming of the east stand to the Bomber Brown Stand.
I can’t imagine the Albion top brass naming a stand after a great player, even one like Bomber. They want to reserve the possibility to do a sponsorship deal for more cash for the coffers.
However, a statue, of possibly Bomber and the King inside the Astle gates would be fitting tribute. The visit to Portman Road at Ipswich showed what could be done with their life size statue in tribute to Sir Bobby Robson.
Forget naming a stand after the great man, they will probably be replaced within fifty years or so…give the Bomber AND the King a statue at either end of the Hawthorns. It’s the least they both deserve.

German Baggy 17 said it all. I remember sometime about ‘68/’69 v. Arsenal. Crap match, 89 minutes, 0-0. Free kick, Smethwick End about 3 yards off centre outside the ‘D’. Bob Wilson prancing sideways back and forth crab-like on his line behind the wall. Bomber steps up, Bob turns his head left still in his crab-like stance and the balls been in and is already come out the back of the net! WHAT A LEGEND! Result - 1-0 to the Albion. A statue minimum we can do, and I’ll put the first fiver down! Oooh Aaarrrrr!

Your super star of the 4th div was ok - but Bomber is the best player of his generation.
Bomber needs to be honoured. He is a true living legend at our club, something that is very rare these days.
He spent 17 years at West Bromwich Albion, and he gave his all for us. Not only that, but he STILL to this day comes to every game, home and away, to offer expert opinion on the radio.
A true, true legend and a great servant to the club, who really should be honoured. Halfords Lane should be renamed the “Tony ‘Bomber’ Brown Stand”. And while we’re on the subject, I think the East Stand should be renamed the “Jeff Astle Stand”. It’s only fitting that you get to the “Astle Stand” by walking through the Astle Gates.
This means a lot to us as supporters of West Bromwich Albion. We are big believers in the traditions of the football club and it would be great if one of our greatest ever players was truly honoured in the right way.
As they are going to rebuild/refurbish the Halfords Lane it would give the Club an excellent opportunity for them to rename the Stand ….

There is absolutely no doubt Tony Bomber Brown should be reconized now and not later.
I am proud of the guy and i want to walk past his statue and stand named after him now.
I want all supporters from other clubs to be able to see how important Bomber is to us when they visit us on matchdays.
A statue outside the east stand named after him is the least he deserves.

About time! Absolute legend in everyone’s eyes, both old and young.
I do find it quite extraordinary that we are one of the only “Bigger” clubs in England that dont have a stand named after a previous legend.
Please get this sorted Mr Peace. There arent many true legends of the game left, that not only did an immense job for their club in playing days, but are still a hardcore die hard fan to this day.
I’m only 18 so I wasnt lucky enough to see Bomber play, but from watching DVDs and listening to him on the radio, I can see what a true professional he is and what a great player he was. I was lucky enough to bump into him at Wembley last year, there I was walking down Wembley Way with Tony Bomber Brown, he was very down to earth and talked to us for quite a while - absolute Legend! He is my dad’s idol and also one of mine.
He needs to be honoured definately and I think it would make him very proud. If we leave it too long, it may be too late so lets show our appreciation for Bomber.

Tony Brown is a legend, I agree about the stands being replaced so a more fitting tribute would be a statue outside the main entrance of the East stand.
By just watching the 250 greatest Albio goals DBD you see the legend that Bomber Brown is.
Bomber’s one of the true legends of the club and is a true gentleman. I truly believe it would be one of the most apt things we can do as a club to honour him now while he’s around to enjoy it rather than it being a memorial (although Bomber will be with us for many years to come too - sounds a bit morbid reading that last line back) by officially renaming one of the stands after him.

Oh dear, certainly rattled your cages? Like I said my first constructive message was not published, my 2nd was probably a little vengeful because the 1st had been overlooked. Either way I didn’t resort to petty personal attacks on individuals.
I actually rated Bomber and saw him play enough to realise how good he was. But whether you want to compare Shilton with Bully (31?) or the fact Bomber & Bully played at different levels & positions, or my ability with crayons (44?) The fact remains that on a goal per game ratio, Bully was better. Bully also scored at every level he was asked to play at: International, domestic cup competitions against Premier opposition, whatever he scored. They played a generation apart and therefore it’s impossible to say whether their game is comparable, just the facts as they stand are. If that still hurts you lot, well I can’t help that can I? Then again I wouldn’t expect any of you lot to be able to work that out for yourselves
We should have a statue of Bomber outside the East Stand. It would be a more fitting and permanent tribute, rather than a stand that could be re-named or given up for sponsorship. Like the Astle Gates it will be a physical place people can see and visit.
For a player to score that many goals from midfield is astonishing and the only players like that around today are Gerrard and Lampard. He is Mr. Albion.
Bomber Brown’s contribution to our club has been outstanding and still is. I love his commentary on the radio and being a younger fan his goals are a pleasure to watch on dvds. He needs to be remembered. Young fans need to know about his legacy
First off I think its fitting when we’re talking of a true Albion legend to note (not mock or squabble with over a 4th division strikers goalscoring record……tongue firmly in cheek!)that even genuine Wolves fans are coming on here commenting on (amongst other things!)just how good a player Bomber was, now that speaks for itself.
Bomber wasn’t born locally but nobody could argue that he doesn’t love this club as much as anyone who was.

The term “Legend” is over used today. Tony “Bomber” Brown DESERVES being called a legend. Most games, most goals for only one club. Mr. loyalty personnified. I was also at Oldham in 1976 when he scored to elevate us back to where we belong. Come on Jeremy, we know you also hold him in the highest regard so please either erect a fitting monument to one of our greatest players or name the East Stand “The Bomber Brown Stand”.

I was never lucky enough to see Bomber play for the Albion due to only being 24 but its clear to see how much the older generation loved him and I think it would only be fair to have something in his honour
In this age of football mercenaries it is highly unlikely that Tony will EVER be knocked off his pedestal as top Albion goalscorer. A letter to JP requesting a statue be commissioned MAY help but, as with the Astle Gates, a joint fundraising effort between S4A and the Supporters Club may have more success.
