Albion blog: Transfer hush

West Bromwich AlbionFirst of all I would like to thank everyone who left messages of support on Friday’s blog, Honour Bomber, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.

I have emailed the article and all of your responses to Tom Ross BRMB, Paul Franks WM, Adrian Chiles BBC, and Jeremy Peace. I will keep you updated on any response I get.

I chose to watch Saturdays game at the pub, I was disgusted to learn that many of our local bars had chosen to air the Man Utd game instead of the Baggies, so much for local pride.

With results going our way earlier in the day we had the opportunity to go back to the top of the league and open a small gap, and the boys did just that.

Although we did not play as well as what we can, and with yet another referring howler going against us we ground out another important three points.

Hull had plenty of possession and pushed hard for an equaliser in the last ten minutes until Bednar cracked in the third.

I was screaming at the screen for him to take it into the corner right up until it hit the back of the net, and yes all the other Baggies fans turned and smiled at me.

Great result and keeps us ticking along at the top of the table.

The only blip being the sending off of Robinson, although with hindsight he should maybe have stayed on his feet, he did make contact with the ball and the sending off was very harsh.

We wait to see what his punishment will now be having already incurred a poor disciplinary record this season.

Tonight’s FA Cup replay offers us the chance to avert our attention away from the league and focus on progressing further in the cup.

I know many fans feel the competition is a distraction but I still love it.

I have also promised my six-year-old nephew we will take him to Peterborough for his first away game if we go through.

It will be interesting to see who Mowbray chooses to play tonight; I would like to see some of the fringe players given a start, namely Hodgkiss and Macdonald.

Macdonald being the only bit of incoming business we have witnessed so far in this transfer window, midfielders Wallwork and Chaplow moving on has freed up some funds for Mowbray to re-invest.

There has been a goalkeeper on trial but we wait to see if he has done enough to get an offer of a deal, while other clubs are busy signing players it is a measure of the work carried out by Mowbray and Peace during the summer that we find ourselves not needing to make panic signings.

I think both the chairman and the manager deserve credit for assembling the current squad and still maintaining our prudent financial status.

Anyway it is Tuesday, we have got a game and I hear The Vine calling my name, all the best, up the Baggies.

Albion fans, what do you think? Have your say below

Don’t worry Jarrod you weren’t the only one screaming and shouting….I was however in my front room. HaHa!
That game was so tight towards the end, I was sat on the edge of my seat for the last 20 minutes like a madman trying to contain myself. My housemate must have thought it was cup final day!

I am anticipating the cup match tonight after much deliberation and do hope for our sake that the fringe guys get a run out and that if we go through it’s without any injury/fatigue or what ever else could get handed down to us through misfortune.

    Bednar or Miller for tonight???

Yes mate I was sweating too—that was close but you know on reflection and in the calm light of day isn’t it great that we got three points out of that game—-don’t believe any other Albion team over the last 25 years would have come out winners. However the back 5 need reinforcements to get us up and keep us there so I hope we will soon sign some new and experienced defenders including a new goalie to challenge and back Deano

Yea although I was always confident with Deano, when he came for the ball, we do need to look to the future GK wise. Its a shame we got rid of Kuszack, but I can see him going somewhere so fair play to him on his move the other season. Hopefully we’ll follow up the intest for this GK Danek(hopefully thats correct)

And I agree with you how the team of the past few years wouldnt have come out on top but like you say, we need some solid CB’s if we’re to go into the Promised Land.

Which pub did you watch it in Jarrod?

Name and shame the pubs that did not show the Baggies match. Then maybe we can be more selective in our choice of where we drink.

    rs 10-3,
I watched the game in the Sports bar Walsall.
The Village hotel had the Manu game on.
I suitably gave the bar staff a round of abuse finished my pint and quickly dashed out. To make it more ironic there was a group of Baggies fans who were staying at the hotel who also up and left, leaving the bar half empty, mind you most Manu fans are probably from round here!!!

I went along with about 8 of us into solihull, and into the “Masons Arms” now i drink regularly there of a weekend and thought there would be no problem in having it on….. however, when approaching the bar manager, he said; “sorry, unless there is a major influx of baggies fans, ive gotta have the man utd game on” (despite the fact the place had only a couple of glory hunting man utd fans in there).

Now i know they are in the premier league, but wheres the commitment to our local teams??? And along with my mates, there was probably another 6-7 albion fans with the same idea as me! The pubs loss, approx 15 of us went on down to the Saddlers arms in solihull, (fair play to them) they had the match on!!

    So Masons Arms….. BOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

    Saddlers Arms……. YAAAAYYYYYY!!!

Here in Paris there is a pub with Sky where fortunately they know me and would never DREAM of putting Man Utd on instead of the Albion….The locals are learning some handy English phrases too. If you are ever watching us in a pub in France, “Get up you Yorkshire ****” translates as “Souleve-toi espece de connard du Yorkshire”. You never know when these things will come in handy.

Great result and I was another shouting for him to take it to the corner.

I watched it at the Comedian pub in Toll End Rd Tipton.2 rooms with 2 big screens, very comfortable.
prediction for tonight 7-8 to charlton after penalties. Nightmare!!

Just a general lack of interest and not many fans really, you can’t blame the locals for that!

9 - yet more obscure stupidity from you… I bet you are the type that wears a Man Utd top except when you go to the game (ha ha - as if you ever go).

Hi Jarrod, which Vine is that then?. Before Christmas I was accused of being a patron, although I’ve never been in any Vine in my life.
